Trigger

Please except my most humble apologies,I made the mistake of estimating your age by your extensive and worldly experience displayed when commenting on our forum.

I was hoping you would be one of the very few who may remember Wellings first league and early history when they play junior football.

My dear 'sladie'

In all seriousness, a good friend of mine said he'd be willing to answer any questions that you have about the early years.

He's name is Barry and his work number is 020 8301 1196.

Kind regards

Trigger.

I believe Triggers contact is probably the best person to contact. Other than
that please phone the club.

Cheers

If I'd put Barrie, 'sladie' might have saw through my plan.

Dichio scored four in the 6-2 win over Slough, matching what Abbo had scored in the entire season to that point. Remember one player coming in and joking that Abbo was hanging himself in the dressing room.

Danny only socred two of the five at Witton Albion and departed with six goals in three League games although he did also score in the penalty shoot out of a Kent Senior Cup 2nd replay at Gravesend and Northfleet which we won 7-6.

Coming back to this thread after sending it ages ago, thanks for all your reminiscence. I never thought the legendary People's Poet would actually reply to the thread. Happy days...

Yes, it was definitely more than 6 - he scored in at least one other match, apart from the Slough and Witton ones, so he must have got into double figures for us.

4 against Slough, much to Les Briley's disgust, think the middle one was a 0-0 draw against Gateshead and two before half time at Witton, which I think was the one we were 5-0 up at half time and invited Mike McKenzie to re-think whether we were indeed the worst team he had ever seen in the Conference...

Sorry I've only just caught up on this. This is brilliant. This is exactly how I remember you. If I come to a game next season can you promise to don the jacket? And shout c*nt very loudly?

I always remember my old man telling me about when he took me back in early 90's i was only 7 or 8 at time and he said there we're Welling fans haviing a go at a certain Steve Finnan!

He always remembers the moans of "Get off Finnan your s***!"

Didnt have a bad career in the end did he?

I also remember just, seeing Danny Dichio play think he only played a few times though didnt he? but scored quite a few!

No, but that career was at right back. We played him on the wing...

That was probably me amongst others!!

I still confess that I did not rate Finnan very highly during his brief stint at PVR although he had a virus of some sort for a large part of it. Graham Hobbins (who was a good judge of a player) really rated him and always used to say to us "you should see what he does in training" and that became a bit of a standing joke but, as you say, his career didn't turn out to be too bad!
