Dear All.

I am toying with the idea of buying a mini-bus. Not sure what size maybe a 9 or even a 15 seater.

If I buy one through my company my understanding is that I would not have to get a PSV license. Obviously there is the issue of hire and reward (but I'm sure that can be overcome).

I would appreciate constructive feedback about what would temp people to use it.

Also, would there be a demand for a lift back to home for an extra small fee (say about £5.00 for those living in Bexley, Bromley or Dartford)?

This is only an idea at the moment. Lots of homework still to be done.

I think its a great idea Trigger

Plenty of people would use it i think. If its a comfortable one with a bit of leg room even more so.

Especially midweek when we could be anywhere and the minibus could be a godsend for those having to mess about getting back from away games if it was a regular option.

If you would be looking to get back costs quickly it may not be a go-er but if you are thinking it will be a great help in getting extra people to and from games and pull in £150-250 a game and get your costs back in a 2 or 3 years then its a great idea.

As for the back home service for a fiver extra not sure as most people would walk home or jump on a bus. If it was an early morning return from somewhere like weston or truro etc then probably the drop off home would be a goer for some games.

Personally i think you would be full for every game if it got off the ground if you had a 15 seater.

Could even set up a booking service by paypal or bank and people could pay for the games they want to go to whenever.

What would tempt me?? Bit of leg room unlike some where you are cramped and maybe one with a dvd player on it or the seats for watching games back or hooking my phone up to it through the scart socket so we can watch sky sports live :)

cant see any issue with paying £10-20 per match depending on distance and maybe more for a long trek.

Not sure about old school licences, but on mine (passed about 10 years ago when the new photo licence just came in) I am permitted to drive 8 passengers.

Sounds like a great idea though, I usually drive to away games but would probably pay for a space on some trips too.

Being on my own I like the idea as I can only go to away games if someone

 My dear AFCB-Wing.

A good point made, but one of my many weaknesses is that of not getting emotionally involved. I tend to treat anything as a business when dealing with pound notes.

However, your point has made me think of other associated areas to look at.

Thank you.

Hi Trigger

A good idea on paper, however it is a bit of a minefield. I have a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a 17 seater bus. There are limits to what you can drive, dependng on size and weight. I believe it's a maximum of 15 people and under 3.5T where you don't need a CPC/PCV licence. Anything over, then you may need some form of test (depending if you passed your driving test circa 1997).

Hire and reward is an issue, although again, it depends on your licence. Also depends on what your company is. I worked in a school previous...Nightmare.

They aren't exactly cheap either. Best company for new minibuses (and second hand I think) is called Red Kite. They're based in Bournemouth and I've used them before.

Think I've got a document on my old laptop for minibuses and community use, can ping it across if needed.

Hope that helps.

My dear Slim

My business in nothing associated with needing a mini bus. But it looks as though a business can purchase up to two mini buses. As you rightly say, it's definately a minefield with regard to licenses ect. But with the input that I have been given on here and through other sources I am now armed with more knowledge that I did have before. Mind you, I now have a load more questions that require addressing than I did before too.

Thank you.

I am afraid this is making me regret I let my PCV licence lapse 10 years ago. Wonder if anyone out there in interweb land holds one.

My dear Trigger

Unfortunately, that is the case in this area. You learn one thing, it develops two questions! If you need anything mate, I have a fair amount of info I can send over.

SVM, I hold one...However, much as I would offer my services, I barely have time to do my own thing, let alone help out. However, it's all different for different areas. If you can get round the 'Hire and Reward' issue, then anyone who passed their test before 1997 can drive it.

My dear Slim

It seems as though passing my driving licence may be a good start (just kidding).

Also, would it be possible to buy you a pint on Saturday and have a quick chat? I am normally at the ground by 2pm.

Regards

Trigger.

My dear Trigger do you actually have a driving licence? I would have though a person of your noted stature and age would have been driving before the licence requirement was introduced. Or is it you just wish to be seen as one of us lower mortals once you are on the roadsmile

Pretty much Scooby, however there are ways round it...

Trigger, unfortunately my fine fellow, I can't make this Saturday. My attendance at games, due to work and personal interests, is quite limited. Looking at the fixtures, I honestly don't know the next game I can get to. Happy to discuss over email though mate.

My dear Slim.

This project does not appear to be as straight forward as I would like, however, your knowledge amongst others is invaluable.

If you don't mind, I'll PM you with my email address and if you find the time I would be very grateful for any information.

Thank you.
