JAMIE DAY: CLUB WONT STAND IN ANDY PUGH WAY IF A LEAGUE CLUB COMES IN FOR HIM
Welling United player/manager Jamie Day has admitted that the club would not stand in Andy Pughs way if a higher league club came in for the striker and if he chose to leave.
Agree but that also means that we need to benefit and still let them go. We arent poundland where people can get goods cheap. As long as we get a reasonable (NOT inflated) price for any of our class players and a sell on i think all the players go with our blessing.
Birchall scored 40 odd goals and was rumoured to go for 50k ish.... If pughie gets 20 by xmas then we would be utter muppets to let him go for 5 or 10k. Sheringham has scored half the goals pughie has from open play and deffo wont make it as a pro and he went for 25k.
We need to strike the balance and not be bent over but still be fair to the player.
Im delighted JP didnt go cos thinking about it 10k was taking the utter piss.
Not standing in there way isnt us shouting give us 10k and you can take who you want, We are developing young players into special players. If they are the best at our level and showing league clubs they have something then there is a fee there. I like a 50 inch HD TV ive seen in the shop thats £1800 i think they will tell me to sod off if i offer them £300. The good thing is if a few clubs are showing interest its likely we will get a fair deal for us on anyone who leaves. Note the word FAIR not excessive.
I would be happy if our players get moves into the league as they would deserve it for their work and character.

It's this sort of sensationalist, sh1t-stirring journalism that really annoys me.
Here we are having a fairly settled, so far - so good season, and this moosh turns up and starts asking Daysie about availability of our players. Who's to say that we won't get promoted at the end of this season and we want to hold on to players like Pugh. From what we saw in pre season, I'm sure the players already know that should a higher league club come in for them then we wouldn't hold them back, but the last thing we want is someone reminding everyone how well our boys are doing, and 'by the way, don't forget that you can have them if the price is right'!
If any of our players get a move to a conference or higher club, well done to them, they deserve it. But our club does not need some two bob hack potentially unsettling our players by making stories out of nothing.

There was no plan to stir anything and unsettle any player involved. Merely asked Jamie on his thoughts on Andy Pugh who is having a great season, second in the goalscoring charts, which only reads well for Welling United and their push for promotion.
Every player's ambition to better himself and challenge himself at the highest level possible, Andy's goals this season suggests he could be sought after by other clubs. Whether there has actually been an offer remains to be seen. Any interest or stories about a player who is playing well only bodes well for the club as it suggests the club is in a good position.

Football Exclusives.
It might not be stirring but it is old news. Jamie has gone on record as saying he will not stand in Andy's, or anyone elses, way in all the local papers and also the BBC.
I hope that he is playing at a higher level next season; in the Blue Square Premier representing Welling United!!
Much of Football Exclusives is old news. Its not really well laid out and the media content isnt very "watchable"
Jamie has mentioned the players in the press and on video way before these "Exclusives". Football Exclusives is much like a news paper... Out of date by the time you read it.
I've been on there a couple of times wasnt impressed so dont go back unless i see a link to an item.

Understood. It was our first game at Park View Road and first opportunity to grab a few words with Jamie. Associated with Hampton and Richmond Borough primarily and obviously playing against Welling United we made the trip down. I live nearby myself, just around the corner in Bexleyheath. Given the way Welling have started the season, promotion is a very real possibility. Spoke with a Welling fan at the game who felt the players need to be more clinical to make the step up, and probably had a point against Hampton but when you find a keeper in form as he was, just have to put your hands up and say we couldn't score anymore.
Of course any footballer would want to further their career and if they deserve it then good luck to them, but my point still stands.
You say that Jamie Day was asked for his thoughts on Andy Pugh. Surely Jamie would have said about how pleased he is with the way Pugh is playing and maybe something along the lines of him keeping it up and the team pushing for the play offs. But would he suddenly start talking about Pugh potentially leaving the club unless pushed on the matter? This sort of selected editing, and the headline you've chosen for your story really don't help a club like ours.
