It IS Possible to get there and back on train in one day, i am now doing it.
855 kings cross to leeds then 1148 leeds to huddersfield giving 30 mins to get to ground (15 minute walk or taxi) plus if you miss the connection there is another one too. The fare... 14.50 there and the same back!! then going back there are lots of trains and its MUCH QUICKER than the other route.

So much for National Rail Enquiries website. If you put those times in it gives you nothing.
If you break the journey down leg by leg it is possible to do it. Just!!!!!
Depart Welling 7:30
Arrive London Bridge 7:55
Depart London Bridge 7:55
Arrive Kings Cross 8:30
Depart Kings Cross 8:55
Arrive Leeds 11:39
Then depending on how lucky you are: - (ie. If the train is on time and how quickly you can run)
Depart Leeds 11:40 to arrive in Huddersfield at 12:12 transpennine express
Depart Leeds 11:48 to arrive in Huddersfield at 12:38 by bus
Depart Leeds 12:10 to arrive in Huddersfield at 12:42 transpennine express
The realistic journey would be the 12:10 from Leeds getting to Huddersfield at 12:42 then a fast walk to get to the stadium in 18 minutes. It's 0.9 miles from the station.
Alan i dare say a few Wings fans will be on that train. If it is a touch late a taxi will be 4 quid. My dad is a Network rail suit and checked any delays etc and at the moment it looks fine. These long haul trains often get in a few minutes early too.I only found out through my dad who asked someone at work if there was a way. Could have gone Doncaster too. On the way back there is loads of options and you can get back to Welling for 930pm! This is with an hour in the pub after the game. If we win im staying over night. Coaches also come back National Express there are 3 coaches from 430pm. It is perfectly do-able and hopefully some people choosing to go at the last minute will go for it.

Would it be quicker getting off at Wakefield station and getting a taxi to Huddersfield? It's just over 10 miles between the two towns. The 8.55 train should arrive at Wakefield at 11.18. The taxi journey takes 20-25 minutes and costs £20 or less! If you could get two or more suopporters on aboard, the cost could be shared!
Broken Wing you sir are a star! Its 21 quid the fare so if anyone wants to do it leave a message in here. The Game will get to the Ground at 12 an hour before kick off. Thats not bad, then coming back, trains to Donny or Leeds for the connection to London. Considering would need a single from Leeds to Huddersfield if 2 or 3 share a cab then the cost is negligable plus you get there well early!
