Who is it that's playing badly in defence then? Or is it all of them? Sounds as if we have good individual defenders that aren't playing as a unit. It doesn't matter which defenders Jamie brings to the club if they can't play together.

Enough is enough our defending is appalling and the keeper is causing problems now it's doing too much damage, no way should we have lost that! Daisy needs to be true to hus word and make changes a very cold and pissed off Spills

Luckiest player on our side was Mr Acheampong, how he was not subbed at half time was beyond me. He had a very bad day at the office during the first half. On a better note however, it was good to see Mr Cumbers score. Communication between defence and the goalkeeper needs to improve, don't think Mr Thomas is training with the team which if true doesn't help. For me, Sutton were not fantastic, but they had done their homework and outpaced our defenders.

A game of pluses and minuses today.

The pluses: An entertaining game, another great performance by Andy Pugh, possibly just edged out as Welling MOM by Luis Cumbers, great to see him back on the scoresheet.  Excellent officials today, perhaps the best we have had this season.

The minuses:  Poor communication at times between the keeper and the defence,  our central defenders did not have the pace to cope with Sutton repeatedly playing long balls over their heads and the biggest minus, the result.

Will be interesting to hear Jamies thoughts.

If we are looking at the defence aspects I think we may have concerns over our two central defenders pace. They do win balls and tackle but it would seem today were maybe exposed. The right back slot has been a bit of a concern when Faz hasnt been there but hopefully has been shored up short term by our loanee

Poor to let a lead slip. We battled well to get in front. Possible factor is keeeper unable to train with defence. Not all fans fault. He made 2 great saves today. Sutton had a gameplan it worked. Good results elsewhere so no damage, good motivation for d*rtford game. Interviews up in a couple of hours. Highlights tomorrow. Keep the faith. Coyw

Sutton staff and stewards very friendly today, was good going back to GGL shame we threw it away.

I've just read all this and anyone would have thought that we were in a relegation battle.

Yes, I'm disappointed with the goals concede today but I would have taken going into the Christmas fixtures in second place before the season started.

We do give away too many free kicks and penalties but this is something to work on and I'm sure the management will not allow it to continue indefinitely.

There are now eight days to regroup. Hopefully those carrying knocks can rest them and Jack Obersteller and Loui Fazakerley will soon be available again.

B*ll*cks - today's defending was park standard at best. No team should lose having scored three goals.
The first goal was bad enough but the second wouldn't be accepted on a Sunday morning - you could have driven four of Boris's double deckers straight through the middle of our defence.

For the third goal who was marking the chap with the head bandage - he wasn't difficult to spot.

Fourth goal - I'm losing the will to live. F***ing clear the ball. Properly. Don't foul.

I keep hearing that today's game was a thriller. 7 goals don't make a thriller. Today was an exhibition of sh*t defending from both teams. That's not a thriller it's the opposite

We might be second but the goals against column speaks volumes.

If you keep a clean sheet you get a minimum of a draw; if you score thre...

I take your points on board Mark, but our defending is now hindering us pushing on further. We have done very well to be second going into xmas but if you think where we could be had we defended better. I do believe we could do with a holding midfielder too help out the defence although you then take away a bit of attack from us. I summed today up as promotion favourites going forward but relegation candidates at the back.

The team have done marvellous we are a fantastic side to watch we just need to sort it out  defensively otherwise all the hard work will come undone.

From the Sutton forum:
So 3 very valuable points against the only team to beat Woking in the league this season. And a note about Welling fans - I've always found them a real decent bunch, and today was no exception. They came and supported their team, rather than slag off the opponents, they know what their team can and can't do, and I rate them as some of the best supporters in the league.

I'm not under the illusion that all is rosey. Far too many goals have been conceded, not just from needless free kicks / penalties.

How can this be put right? If the players deemed to be under performing are released, where are the affordable replacements?

At the moment I'm still struggling to come to terms with the pathetic FA Trophy exit. That was one source of income that has been lost however I'm not convinced that any sizeable prize money should have been added to the budget rather than pay off some debts.

A year ago there was almost no Welling United, now we are second in the league and have a wonderful chance of competing in the play-offs. It is some measure of where we have come in that short time that we are so disappointed to have blown the opportunity to have put some pressure on the leaders.

Ok the defending left much to be desired but i'm with Mark. A major problem ,as has been stated, is the lack of cohesion between the keeper and the back 4.This is caused, in my opinion, largely down to the lack of time they practise together due I assume to Dan's non availability midweek. Ideally our own 'keeper would help enormously and that's not to put the blame on the goals conceeded to Dan Thomas.  We've seen two 7 goal entertaining games this season; Salisbury were no doubt disappointed not to have got something from their match when they scored 3 goals.

We are still second with two vital games v Dartford; if we can get 4 points from them it will set us up for the New Year when hopefully we can push on to secure a play off slot.

COYW and lets get a good turn out on Boxing Day.

Jamie has said this season he wont let standards slip , we were given a get out of jail card yesterday ....4 games leading up to xmas (basingstoke, sutton and d*rtford x2) im sure a few of us thought 7-8 points would be nice, with the teams failing to get wins yesterday and win and draw (at least) vs the lot down the road will ensure weve had a return that will be better than it looks as most of the teams have not gained as much as they should have from us losing yesterday.

Jamie will get it right, for me though if Faz comes back on the right (or Evans with stella back at left back) then sammy at center half with one of ant, ben or jack will stop a lot of the silly mistakes. Sambrook may not look a match winner but hes a proven pro who doesnt make too many errors and if he does he learns from them. That said he has to stay fit, Dan has to start shouting at the back 4, these are the same players John Whitehouse had and he screamed at them all game to keep them at it. Some people are giving dan a bit of stick but hes made more very good saves since hes been here than the other keepers have made added together hes getting exposed as we are letting teams get through us. Hes also still learning which is why we are lucky enough to have him and he travels a bloody long way to play for us and has done for months, I dont think hes cost us many games, hes also saved us a couple too.

We are second in the league and we can really kick on in the second half of the season, we have no divine right to hump teams 4-0 every week and they are part time players. Let jamie and the coaches sort it, they will and we will cruise into the play offs and be ready if woking implode on or off the pitch.

Stick together, we will do this.

We just seemed too negative yesterday. I understand not wanting to change a winning team but Loick has been with the exception of Pugh our best player this year. I'm a firm beliver in picking your best team and Loick is in that everyday. At home we are so much better and I think this has something to do with the 4-3-3 as apose to the 4-5-1 away from home that pits a lot of pressure on Pughy or whoever else is lone striker. Also I was baffled yesterday by the decision to play Sambroke on the right and Evans who played better than anyone at Rb this year on the left? Surly playing Jordan Johnson on the left makes more sense than playing with one unfit wing back and one out of position. How many teams start a game with no left footed player on the pitch? We must sort silly errors or they will cost us

In Jamie I trust but not in the defense. He must get hacked off with bailing them out and doing extra running!! We push on to dartford and I'm sure we will get a result at home, be interesting how we line up boxing day and whos in defense?

Left footed players on the left and right footed players on the right for me please!

JD set the team up to keep it tight at the back and try to nick a goal. We ended up nicking 3 goals and still lost! If that does n't encourage the managment to make changes to the defence nothing will!

On the plus side 2 well earned goals for luis cumbers. Also, the boy Evans looks even better than Carl Jenkinson did for us.

Very true. Go away from home and score 3 that should be enough to win you the game. After watching the highlights so frustrating and were goals that could have been delt with so much better im sure JD will get it right and also up his game as well as to his standerds he has not been great. Still 2nd at christmas we would have taken that at the start of the year. Merry christmas all

I think it is great that we expect more and criticise even when we are in 2nd place. It shows belief in promotion and not just blind optimism. The team should take this as a compliment. Anyway we are only 2nd, 1st would be better!
