Its not so much that ... if people want to moan about the club etc then thats not a problem in my view, but I would remain positive with players and the manager especially as Im sure no-one wants them to get demotivated or annoyed and walk in the summer.

Andy Pugh spent a long time clapping the supporters behind the goal at Dartford however many were so disappointed about losing the match that they probably didn't even notice. I know he would have liked to have gone out on a high note but it wasn't to be.

As for Warren McBean, what has happened in the past is just that. I am in favour of giving him full backing and judging him solely on what we see. A couple of goals against Truro would be a good start!!

Sad as it is to see andy go,good luck to him and i hope it all works out well for him. Im sure warren mcbean will be welcomed by players and supporters alike and he should realise straight away that hes come to a club that is on the up and potentially is at the beginning of a very exciting journey and is attracting attention from higher sources. Lets also hope that Luis and Loick take this opportunity to try and lift their level even higher. So,farewell andy and WELCOME Warren....enjoy your stay and play how some of us know you can play and you will fit right in.

Its in the highlights Mark he was one of the first clapping then at the end he turned round for another lasting clap you got the impression it was a goodbye clap, which looks like being the case.

Hes been a star for us and i hope he gets up the football league and does really well, hes certainly good enough.

ALL the best to Andy Pugh

I am sure it wont be long before a McBean chant will be echoed around the ground to welcome Warren in to the Welling fold.

I totally forgot that his old man won't be coming anymore. Now I am depressed. Quality shouting and will be missed. Anyone know if McBean's people will come along!!

Cambridge's manager's not a happy bunny:

Presumably because he's also claimed they're skint:

Well, guess what, Jez, we don't like our club being pushed around either. Let's hope another club comes in with a bigger bid in the next week or so.

The plot thickens! I just hope Andy gets the best deal at the end of it all. He deserves it.

Why should we not want to make it public ... we want, and Pugh will want, to get the best deal ... and the more people know about it the better from our point of view. Sure, its not best for Cambridge, but then until the point he is officially someone else's player then whats best for Pugh and Welling come first.

Cant believe this knee "injury" is so bad at only a weeks recovery, and managing to complete the Dartford game, that it would delay a transfer.

Gives someone else a chance to jump in ahead of Cambridge in the coming days, thats the only reason he is annoyed. Just do the deal then.

If Pugh wanted away at the first offer by another club, what can you do?

Six weeks ago Pugh was on trial at a League 1 club and now he's set to join a Conference club. Why? Well, unless someone's telling porkies, WUFC accepted the first (semi) serious offer from another club and said, "off you go, Andy". You can hardly blame him for talking to Cambridge in that situation.

15k and a decent replacement within hours, superb work Daisy.

I doubt Daysie had any say in the transfer fee. Besides, is it really a good deal for WUFC? Cast your mind back to the last two decent strikers we had, both of whom departed through tribunals at the end of a season.

Danny Kedwell: Two years development at PVR. Offer of 10k from a Conference club in January window. Tribunal awards us 12k and 33% sell-on.

Charlie Sheringham: One season at PVR, no January window offers. Tribunal awards 8k and ?% sell on.

What would we have got for Pugh from a tribunal? Two seasons development (plus the two loan spells), a 15k January offer and similar goalscoring record...

Is 15k really a good deal now when compared to something not too dissimilar in the summer and having him for the rest of the season?

Russ

It makes no sense the fact weve kept quiet, i would have made it an auction for Pughie. Also a slight knock for me isnt going to delay a transfer. If they know its a knock thats going to keep him out for a week they would still sign him.

I hope he stays, bangs in a few more goals and then gets a good move or we hang on for a tribunal over the summer. If hes played through it over the weekend hopefully he will be fit for Saturday.

im getting pissed off with pub teams unsettling our players, answer the phone say its 30k pay or eff off. None of this trials, training or letting them go for pennies or keeping it hush hush, hes a major asset and worth more than 15k and we should look after US and not other clubs.

Kevin, excellent post.

So he is unhappy that Welling have made it public despite keeping it quiet for at least a week and then announces two of his squad are close to signing for other clubs, and names them.

What a hypocrite!!

We'd get 15k at tribunal come the summer anyway for sure ... given he has played first team games for Gillingham, been chased by Cambridge, Leyton Orient, Hartlepool and other unnamed clubs ... plus we have Kedwell, Sheringham leaving us, and Sheringham leaving Dartford as comparibles. Dont risk making the player unhappy by saying no to him, but I would certainly be telling him he can wait until the summer for a better deal, and therefore him, and Welling, will benefit. If he stays until the end of the season and finishes on 40 goals for the season what sort of offer is he going to get personally then ?? a better one then on the table now I have no doubt.

Look at the Cahill Bolton/Chelsea thing as a comparible ... pay me 100k a week now, or I sit on my contract til the summer and leave on a free when someone will pay me a stupid wage because they can sign me for nought.

Another great point which i think Russ was making. If Pugh stayed and came out and said hes staying he would have a great chance of a better move and or promotion with us.

Kedwell said he wanted to go but agreed to stay till the end of the season. If Pughie did the same, we could all benefit.

Completely agree with you Mark.  So he's saying that Welling shouldn't talk about one of their players signing for another club, but it's okay for him to talk about two of their players joining other clubs.  Hypocrite indeed.

We have to protect our interests and Cambridge can like it or lump it. It does have the feeling of trying to get an auction started...

Too often this club has bent over to accomodate others (players, fixtures, rearranged games etc...etc....) so it's long overdue that we grow a pair and do what is in our best interest.

Cambridge should be pleased that Welling kept it quiet for so long anyway. I would not have had a problem with it being announced immediately.

Once a replacement had been signed there was no way that the announcement could have been delayed further.

He's just pissed off because now other clubs know that Pugh is available for sale, and there might be a minor bidding war and he can't rip us off. George can **** off! :)

Think Jamie, Ash and Frosty can settle him down and integrate him. Amazing what a bit of team spirit can do.

Seem to remember people warning Aidy Pennock not to touch Danny Kedwell and he didn't turn out a bad signing did he?

What's their manager banging on about? not even a league club. He needs to get real and look where his club is.

As for the knee - let's fix it and charge double then.

Pugh for £15k is an absolute steal no wonder their manager wanted us to keep it quiet! Apparently the only reason it became public was due to the sterling efforts of the Super Value Bexley Times!

We should ring up Cambridge United, tell them the price is now £25k plus add ons and if they don't like it they can jog on! If he left in the summer we'd get £15k min from a tribunal and Pughie would prob get a better deal  elsewhere anyway.

Convient that Pughy's knee will clear up in about a week / 10 days. Just in time to be eligible for a game for Cambridge!! They want to hold off on the deal because they have FA Trophy next weekend and Pughy can't play and they didn't have a game this weekend. They are trying to push us around and it should take someone to say "OI NO!" Can't see that being Barrie but someone needs to stand up for both Club and player. I totally understand that Pugh wants full time football but he is too good for Cambridge and I'd much rather see him go to a league club whether now or the summer. Who knows if he goes to Cambridge he could be playing against us next year with us being the better team!! Pughy don't let some two bob team push you around you're far to good a player and person for that!!
