This has been one of the most anticipated friendlies for this seasons pre-season campaign, all mainly for one reason. The return of ex-wing striker, Andy Pugh or 'Pughy' as he was known. Andy left us for Cambridge near the end of January for a fee of £30,000 which since then has been boosting the clubs financial records. Andy was one of the greatest strikers the club has had in its 51 year history and I think its only fair that we acknowledge it with an applause when he walks out of the PVR tunnel again.
Cambridge United has said that they would be sending numerous amounts of first team players for the match, despite the fact that its a midweek match.
The game itself kicks off at 7:45 and admission prices are normal which are adults for £12 and Under 16s for £7, I persume that season ticket holders are free again.
I think readers are being too kind to TBKIAH but is that really helping him to improve his 'match reporter' skills? I don't believe it is as we are a year on and the inaccuracy of facts and grammar are as bad as they were a year ago.
Sorry Charlie 4/10 for the post. You need to improve both your research skills and grammar.
Some pointers regarding the facts:
1. You will find details of Andy Pugh's transfer on the official website;
2. You may like to check with the club when it celebrates its 50th year;
3. You may not be aware but Cambridge has non league sides Cambridge United and Cambridge City;
4. The last, and to the best of my knowledge the only time we have previously played Cambridge United was in the 1996/7 season when we drew them away in the 1st round proper of the FA Cup and they won 3-0. They were then a Division 3 club and we were in the Vauxhall Conference.
Grammar I will have to leave to your teachers.
I'll say nothing about your avatar beyond your definition of the term 'legend' would appear to be vastly different from my own.

Well said Bruno.
The word "legend" is far too overused in football circles and only applies to very few. These lads have given an awful lot to WUFC in recent times and that will never be forgotten but they are not "legends"

I am all for youngsters having a go at things and of course sometimes getting them wrong BUT in these days of spellcheckers and grammar checkers it is not beyond the wit of man (or boy) for him to type us his reports and posts in a Word document and then doing just that - checking them!!!!.....then copy and paste here!
Otherwise I fear he will never learn....what do our teachers do these days if spelling etc is ignored

I blame the govemment, nick and dave have let us all down, while they line the pockets of their mates in the private sector
Oh nick and dave in lower case as they are low life ........
The private sector is the only thing that will keep the country going......The public sector are whinging moners that have had it too good for years with pensions protected - now that they have to join the real world they are complaining
The real people that have let us down are the previous government that sold the 'crown jewels' and got us into this mess (even Blair agreed)
I thought it was the bankers who got us in this situation. Silly me. Must have been the public sector that were the gamblers with other people's money.
As for pensions I think everyone should have a good pension not just Fred the Shred and Bob Diamond.

Sorry Mark but your previous post about spell checkers who are the moners? Do they moan a lot?

It was the Blair government that allowed the bankers to get away with it....selling the crown jewels and NOT regulating.....yes every one should have a good pension...it is just that in the Private sector we have paid for it especially as most are now stakeholder pensions and in the public sector they feel it is a right.....well it isnt anymore!!!
As more people live longer the state pension will go...it will all be private pensions....the public sector have had it too good for too long.....now it is time to join in.
Lots of moans from the unions and the labour party with no solid foundation as to how they would achieve it.
Lets just be thankful we are not in the same situation as Greece/Spain/Italy and Ireland........The Labour Party wanted the Euro.....thank god that never happened
back on subject, i think the factual errors are the biggest concern. aefter lkooing at smoe psots wiht afwul grmmear you can still understand the content but if the facts are often massively wrong then the whole piece looks shyte.
Sadly nearly all the time its the factual stuff that is completely wrong.

Bad spelling can be understood but whats the point if its all factually incorrect. You shouldnt be peased off by a typo or bad spelling as much as reading something that is all incorrect.
Two articles, one has spelling errors but is correct factually, one is completely factually incorrect and has perfect spelling.
Which of the abvove is pointless to read?

Bring back Thatcher? In a wooden box only thank you. Why do those with right wing views assume everyone agrees with them?
If you think Blair is left wing then your world view must be somewhere near Mussolini's. Do a hospital night shift or a day in a London school then run down the public sector Mark, its something to be proud of not dismissed. As for hoodie boy i agree, back to the books young man!
BUT, for 70 minutes we looked the better team, caused them problems and had the better chances, we played well. A balls up at the back gifted Pughy a goal when he had not had a sniff, we brought on after about an hour 6 or 7 17 year olds and they got a cracker of a 3rd in the last minute.
Good game to watch, pathetic attendance for two good teams who put on a very entertaining game. Olympics or not.
Thanks to Cambridge for coming down, hopefully they will do so again.
Interviews with Jamie Day, New signing Ross Lafayette and also Andy Pugh will be up in due course and also some highlights for those that couldnt be bothered to turn up.

The attendance last night was poor possibly it due to being mid week, certainly the Olympics would have had some bearing. The club however charged full price ie £12 for a pre season friendly, against a conference Premier club. Friendlies are also going to be showcasing a number of fringe and academy players. Many are going to be reluctant to pay full whack for such an event
If the admission charges were less the gate maybe bigger. Bloke next to me and his son coughed up £21 including seating. Faversham took this principle, admission was a fiver against us , a club leagues above them, Granted it was a saturday but with a bit more thought it may have been worth it
Due to the sheer amount of friendlies and *cough* bills that arrived without warning I made a choice between a couple of them and one was Cambridge over West Ham , Cambridge were always going to bring a stronger competing squad.
Despite the 3-0 loss, I think my decision was the right one. 60 minutes of possession and some good performances from Lafayette , good to see the hard working 18 year olds in the last 20 minutes. Undone by a few minutes of Cambridge quality including Pughie doing a Cumbers. With a bit of luck we'll get a friendly from them again in the future as they are a good test , I hope they make the BSP play offs.
I thought attendance would have been more I have to say, bit disapointing.
