I thought Scriven knocked Main out of the way to collect the ball but goalkeepers usually get away with that. I thought it was a penalty but I wouldn't have been surprised if play had been waved on.
It was a penalty. I had a great view of it. Keeper took man then ball, simple. It was one of the few decisions that the appalling referee actually got right. I didn't think it was 4-4-2 second half either. We were absolutely dominated 1st half by their midfield so it seemed we changed to a 3-5-2 to combat that.
2-2 was a fair result. Obviously they were as good first half as we were gash, and although we started to pass and knock it around 2nd half instead of the hoofball played in the 1st, we always looked iffy at the back. I didn't see Saturday's game but I thought Main was impressive when he came on and added a cutting edge lacking up to his arrivial. Hopefully that goal was the first of many.
It was a great finish by Main today but his performance on Saturday can n't just be excused as 'lacking match fitness' -even if he is. Nothing can excuse not getting stuck into 50/50 challenges. If it did we'd probably still have Tony Finn!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh When the Wingssssss
When Main came on we definitely did play 4-4-2, with Faz wide right and Baker wide left, Healy and Clarke in the middle, and Main and TFJ up front.
First half was a terrible performance, one of the worst I've seen us have under Jamie, although Sutton were very well organised and far more up for it than we were. Also thought the front 3 of TFJ, Baker and KHM were all too similar.
Fought back brilliantly second-half, not least benefitting from Faz's move into midfield, something I'd hope will continue as he gives us far more creativity.
Got to mention Mott as our man of the match in my opinion, kept us in the game somehow in the first half with some brilliant saves and was faultless throughout. Recoverd from his opening day mistake very well
Just watched the highlights and that second penalty decision was awful and to be fair justice was done when we missed it
Main was awful on Saturday but fair play to him as that was a decent goal although as is said above he needs to do that week in week out and put himself about a bit more
defensively we just look all over the place again - that second goal was needlessly conceded - fair enough Jack slipped as that happens but Acheampong was muscled out of it in the middle so missed clearing the cross and then a runner came in unchallenged to score with Franks and Healy (looks like them but correct me if I'm wrong as it's hard to tell) arriving late and having to pick the ball out of the net - all of our goals conceded so far have been avoidable and/or as a result of mistakes and we need to sort that out first in my books

After seeing the highlights I really can't see how that second penalty was given! Looked a clean challenge to me and if it had been Daisy or Clarkie begin penalised for it in midfield and getting booked I'd be annoyed!
I feel people are missing the obvious as to why we were so poor in the first half. Firstly we should never be playing 4-5-1 at home with the supposed quality of our team going forward (jury still out on Mason and Main). Also why do we continue to play people out of position when we have players sitting on the bench twiddling their thumbs. Scott Kinch unless carrying a knock should feel very hard done by! Was our best performer at Chelmo and did well on Saturday only to be replaced by a centre half playing in midfield! Seemed a ridiculous decision when it was first announced and was proved ridiculous with the first half showing! Feel for Franks as well who is doing an impossible job being moved all over the place unable to adapt quickly to the different roles (he's played in 3 different positions in 4 games!!). This was evident in how easily he was over run time and time again during the first half. He must have walked off at HT thinking he was playing crap but what can you expect when your playing out of position and for a new signing needing to win over the fans I think it's poor from the management to put him in that situation especially when we have CM on the bench.
Finally, for me the jury is still out on Jon Main. Yes it was a good goal and a great finish but as said above that does not excuse the performance on Saturday. Oh he's a service striker so it's ok to not move around, tackle, pass or get stuck into anything and it's everyone else's fault if he doesn't score- I don't buy into that at all. Until Main puts in regular performances where he chases the ball and looks interested I won't be he's biggest fan. I really hope in a month or twos time I'm proved wrong and he's in double figures but he's going to have to put himself about a bit more to do that or the big centre halves in this league will just pocket him all game.

I think we need to cut the whole squad, management and, in particular, the new players a bit of slack here. We have been spoilt with some great results and performances at PVR over the last two seasons and I felt people were far to quick to criticise yesterday. The game at Tonbridge was dire but we could have squeezed three points out of it but for a ridiculous refereeing decision. We were outplayed in the first half yesterday but showed some balls to come back and nearly get another three points. Still unbeaten despite a number of injuries and new players bedding in.
I have spoken (briefly) during pre season to both KHM and Main and I know they are both very keen to do well at Welling but it will take time. The latter has suffered some serious injuries in recent seasons and is clearly feeling his way back in. I agree his performance at Tonbridge was weak but I think he responded well yesterday when he came on and it was very clear how much that goal meant to him and his teammates. Players performances will be up and down over the season but we need to stick with them. My main concern (pun intended) is can he play in a three pronged attack as the central striker? I am not convinced and that would mean a radical change to the formation from the last two seasons. However I am sure Daisy knows what he is doing and we all should trust his judgement.
Keep with the players and I am sure this season can still be successful.
Jamie and his team make the decisions and I dont think I have seen as much criticism since he arrived here. He will learn if he has made a mistake and make amends.
Very true in that we are making some swift comments and judgements here-its very early days

In Jamie we trust
I still have complete faith in him but just a few things to iron out at the moment

Thought i was going mad for a minute after seeing comments saying we didn't! But yes that is what i see, also Main said in his interview he has always played with a big man up top and i think it showed that he needs someone to feed off of.

After seeing the video, I stand corrected (said the man in the orthopaedic shoes), it weren't a penalty! Not surprised given how poor that referee was.
It wasn't a penalty in live time, nor in the replay. When asked behind the goal the keeper said he was booked for "pulling him down, but I went in with my feet" ... a wrong decision that went our way for once

Same for me; from my view at the other end of the pitch, it looked like the keeper fouled him, but the video clearly shows not! Justice was certainly done when the penalty was saved. Ah well, I'm sure we'll get a few dodgy ones given against us over the course of the season.
