SUPERB performance today, hard to pick out a man of the match but special mentions to Connor McClaren, Joe Healy, Faz and Jamie Day. I thought Kiernan looked sharp when he came on and well done to Sam Mott for a world class save in the first half. If that goal had gone in, maybe the result would not have gone our way.

Taking out the Kent Cup that's our 4th clean sheet in a row and with Clarkie, Jack O and now Fraser to come back into the team, theres some difficult decisions for Jamie in picking the team for the next few matches.

Well done to all today, best performance of the season against a strong Newport side and the team deserve a lot of credit

That wasn't Luton - Newport put out a strong team, looks like 8 of the starters played in their last Conference match.  Thought we were superb today and could easily have won by more.

I compared last week's starting line up to today's before the match. Hughes from last week was injured whilst Yakubu and one other were returning from injury so that was as good a team as they had available.

If we were a very poor team what does that make them? How can the goalkeeper have been abysmal? He had no chance with the goals and kept the score down almost single handedly.

The dry wine must be very good in Newport with the sour grapes they produce.

How come the representatives from News Shopper are never asked for votes as part of the 'media collective'?

Decent ref but how is the Newport player not at least booked when he did Kurtis on edge of box from behind? Thought he was a very good ref though, took no rubbish, was calm, told them quietly to go away and was in control, as was last weeks Graeme Fyvie. Every game without the 2 or 3 that give us nothing and crucify us is dodging a bullet.

Im betting odds on we get Twitter Ref for the next round... :(

Didnt he walk out and also "encourage" some players to go with him? Think he got bombed out at Woking, Saw him sitting in dugout at end whilst edinburgh shook hands with our lot. Karma is beautiful sometimes.

Brilliant performance yesterday. I sit just behind the away team dugout and loved a comment from Justin Edinburgh to his team " what's the matter - have they got 12 players on the pitch ?" - priceless !!

Cheers

I think the Newport supporters calling us an inferior and poor side are just munching on a few sour grapes , easy to criticise your own team by putting down the victors. It could have been 5 or 6. Second half the possession and passing from us was superb. A few MOTM for me (personally would have picked Daisy for NOT getting sent off when going in on sliding tackles , great awareness too today).. I think Conor deserved it , great work rate.

Mott appeared to control the back and some good saves and delivery , I think the clash with Franks was just one of those things (and it did look like one of theirs was also involved in it). Another clean sheet as well

Big respect to their keeper keeper Julian today , got in with the banter and a credit to his team. If it wasn't for him they would have been a lot worse off.

I hope we can carry that back into league performances , bossed it

looking forward to the draw (not Dartford please)

Dartford or Maidstone would be a good draw financially or one of the big premier sides. Or we draw a team we can beat and try and get to the final or beat our previous best of quarter final. Wembley would be a great day our, Weve just smashed last years finalists.

There were two comments about being inferior and a poor team on their forum, out of about 100! The other words and comments were "outclassed" "destroyed" "passed us off the park" "controlled the midfield" and "made us look a level below"...All whilst pretty much slagging off their own team and saying how Justin Edinburgh should be sacked, but still would be nice to focus on the positive things said about us rather than 1 or 2 (and rightly so) disgruntled fans.

Fair enough. It's interesting that some want the manager sacked even though they are only off top spot in the Conference on goal difference.

Saturday also highlighted to me what a huge player the gaffer is or us. Not sure he takes enough credit for what he does on the pitch. The first goal doesn't exists without him and possibly the second too. I'm Healy's biggest fan but he took one corner and didn't clear the first defender! His delivery is no where near as good! So pleased in a way Dartford started well this year or a have a sneaky feeling they might have come knocking for him which would have been disastrous! When he plays we play! Keep going Daisy.

Agreed. We have all said what a great job Daisy (plus Ashby and Frost) have done off the pitch but we shouldn't underestimate Daisy's contribution on the pitch. On Saturday he ran the game from midfield plus two assists for the goals. When he plays well the whole team seems to play well.

I would also like to mention Sam Mott - has had an inconsistent start to his Welling career but is settling in nicely now. Having watched the video I have now seen just what a great save that was from the early header - might have been a totally different game had that got in. We have obviously worked on the back four and our defending in training and it shows - long may the improvement continue.

The real test of our back four will now come whilst Frazer Franks is out. We haven't kept many if any clean sheets when playing Ant and Ben at the back.

From looking at time scales for a bruised lung it doesn't look too good but hopefully back as soon as. Frazer has been another huge player for us this year not only in performance but for the way he organises things at the back

Yeah its not as if they kept newport out for 50 minutes is it. PS his name is Fraser. Ant has been playing very well lately, Ben came in took over the armband and scored the second goal.

Have a look back through your analysis pal and tell me when this year Ben Martin and Anthony Acheampong ,when starting a game, have kept a clean sheet?

I do think you are blinkered and have your favourites and you also have the Pires disease from last year when you make your mind up on players and slag them off unfairly and dont see the good parts.

We only kept a few clean sheets at all until this recent run.

Whats the point in talking to you when you are just slagging players off and proving you arent very good at evaluating players? F**k me, youve even said you would have crackers over all of ours, you would have kept harry baker and you would have Jack Evans over Connor. and that Faz aint a right back. ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS

What's the point of signing another 'striker' when we only play one up front (except when we're losing) ?

Fair point have to agree. Maybe we're getting rid of a winger and signing another striker to play on the wing to go along with Kiernan!! Joke whats happened to Ben very, very lucky been poor all season does that and is just handed a fine!! Sure he'll have to sell his massive Porshe 4x4 now!! Wonder whether Clarkie knew anything of his best pal's bit on the side??

RE: Welling V Bishop's Stortford thread

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im going to start this post in a positive way. At times in the first half we passed the ball and played some of the best football I've seen this year. Secondly, Stortford look a half decent team and played well today.

Right now on to the meat of this post. Without beating around the bush there are far too many players not up to it or not bothering for me at the moment. The following players are not good enough and are begginning to cost us (no more lets give it time they've had time and shown nothing!!). Theo. Keirnan, Motty, Clarke!! Not one of them has shown me anywhere near the level I expect from them. I would have Cracknell over anyone of these players, he should never have been released IMO!!

If it wasn't for Roscoe we would be in deep deep brown!

RE: Maidenhead V Wings thread

I have to say I'm slightly disappointed to see Harry Baker leave. Felt he started the season well and has shown some good moments at times. There are players in the squad, Kiernan, Theo that have offered as little as H this year! He did go missing in games but then loads of players have this year. None more so than our supposed Legend Lee Clarke!

Looking at what's happened with Baker and potentially to Martin in a positive way it may just give some of the players the kick up the arse they need to sort their act out!!

If we have signed a striker that will help us massively as I think the key to us not playing particularly well this year is the missing Luis Cumbers. No replacement "runners" in the squad which means Roscoe has to make up for the laziness of others which results in him not being in position in the mixer or being knackered.

Hopefully we can put the mess behind us and move on up now.

RE: Hayes & Yeading Saturday

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know why we continue to be so negative as a team? We did so well last season playing 4-3-3 so why have we suddenly started to fear opposition and play 4-5-1 long punts to the big man and hope players get in and around him! This is not sustainable with our midfield as they are too slow to get up with the forward. We also tend to play hoof ball when playing this formation with Martin and Achempong having the grace of elephants when passing the ball.

Going back to the midfield maybe we've missed daisy over the last few games but so far I have to say making Clarkie the captain was the biggest mistake we could have made. Been the worst player this year so far, off the pace, giving the ball away, going missing in games very very poor and it hasn't just been this year he was like it for the majority of last season too. Looks way out of his depth at this level now but can't be dropped because of his captains responsibilities!!

RE: Wings v Sutton United Thread

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After seeing the highlights I really can't see how that second penalty was given! Looked a clean challenge to me and if it had been Daisy or Clarkie begin penalised for it in midfield and getting booked I'd be annoyed!

I feel people are missing the obvious as to why we were so poor in the first half. Firstly we should never be playing 4-5-1 at home with the supposed quality of our team going forward (jury still out on Mason and Main). Also why do we continue to play people out of position when we have players sitting on the bench twiddling their thumbs. Scott Kinch unless carrying a knock should feel very hard done by! Was our best performer at Chelmo and did well on Saturday only to be replaced by a centre half playing in midfield! Seemed a ridiculous decision when it was first announced and was proved ridiculous with the first half showing! Feel for Franks as well who is doing an impossible job being moved all over the place unable to adapt quickly to the different roles (he's played in 3 different positions in 4 games!!). This was evident in how easily he was over run time and time again during the first half. He must have walked off at HT thinking he was playing crap but what can you expect when your playing out of position and for a new signing needing to win over the fans I think it's poor from the management to put him in that situation especially when we have CM on the bench.

Finally, for me the jury is still out on Jon Main. Yes it was a good goal and a great finish but as said above that does not excuse the performance on Saturday. Oh he's a service striker so it's ok to not move around, tackle, pass or get stuck into anything and it's everyone else's fault if he doesn't score- I don't buy into that at all. Until Main puts in regular performances where he chases the ball and looks interested I won't be he's biggest fan. I really hope in a month or twos time I'm proved wrong and he's in double figures but he's going to have to put himself about a bit more to do that or the big centre halves in this league will just pocket him all game.
