We need to get a tie in with a radio station for more local exposure and free publicity, If RTM or whatever they were called when it closed were still going they would do. They went west in 2008 ish. The only station around us is Meridian Radio who used to be based in Shooters Hill which is a John Daly 3 Wood, Hybrid and a flick with a wedge from PVR.
They broadcast 7 days a week, They have a breakfast show, They have a Saturday afternoon show, They broadcast online and in hospitals. If they featured news of us in the morning or afternoon news and sport and updates on a saturday it will bring in more exposure, Id love it if we went up and they wanted to cover us live we could tell radio kent to do one.
If we can strike a partnership with them we can offer cheaper entry to hospital staff and patients who have been in the hospitals too, maybe have them as our charity. Maybe the players and Danson dog can visit the hospitals at XMAS (Probably too late for this year) etc etc. Also good for our community image and has no costs to us and only benefits for us and them.
The costs for Meridian would be minimal if anything at all even, if they wanted to do live comms they could use WIFI or 3G/4G but they should have modern equipment as they upgraded a few years ago.
I remember there was a similar promotion years ago whereby by CAFC season ticket holders got into games for a fiver.
Can anyone recall how this went.
I used to be a CAFC season ticket holder, and used to get to go to their reserve league matches which used to include some decent premiership stars. It was free for season ticket holders or £2. They used to be lucky to get 200 or 300 attend! In the end they withdrew from the reserve leagues, like many other clubs because it was a loss...
Maybe letting CAFC fans in for a reduced rate but not free (unless it's a one off).
If Charlton season ticket holders were to get reductions then the same should apply to Millwall season ticket holders...plenty of them live in the area.
A couple of seasons ago I noticed a sign at Thurrock offering reduced admission to season ticket holders of any league/non league club. Except of course the team that was playing away to Thurrock.
If you remember last season CAFC leaflets were handed out outside PVR for their football for a fiver promotion. The club has a good relationship with CAFC so maybe Charlton could advertise our games for their non travelling fans. Or dare I suggest an advert in the Valley review.
I caught the tale end of an initative being discussed on talkSport today and did not get the name of the club, but what they are doing is pay what you can afford over the xmas period, with anything over £5 going to charity, thus trying to encourage people to pay more than £5 which will go to their club, and encourage people into the ground with the hope of going back in the future.
To late for the xmas period but club could consider a charity day for low crowd expected fixture in the new year with funds going back into the Mayor's charity or a Bexley based charity.
Yes a one off free game for charlton/millwall or any league club with a season ticket just as long as it is when most teams are away on that day otherwise that could annoy the other local team at home.
If i get the camera im after in the next few months next season or late this seasons video will be amongst the best youve ever seen, Having spent £2300 on gear and repairs though its going to have to wait till i get the dosh spare for it or a company sponsor the highlights a la woking. It will come though but its all been out of my pocket at the moment and done for free.
The camera and quality of footage will knock people out.

It's a pity so many home games clash with Charlton home games. It might be worth approaching the club to see if they'd produce one free advert to promote games when they are away. I'm sure they'd do it once, they have a very good attitude to Welling. £5 off when you show your season ticket would be a good idea too, but not necessarily vital - just the advert might help
Well I'm a former Charlton season ticket holder. Bought a Welling United half-season ticket yesterday. So it is possible to convert them...
I do genuinely believe Welling's style of football is more entertaining, and better value for money.
I think any promotions need to be placed at the end of the highlights videos (like the Christmas tickets), as it was watching the match highlights that originally convinced me to go to a Welling game. Then we need to keep sharing match highlights links via social networking tools like Facebook and Twitter. In the case of Facebook, you'll be surprised at the positive feedback you'll get. Already got one mate saying he'll probably come to a game in the new year.
Might be worth even promoting the use of social networking tools, as well as the Welling FC twitter feed, in the match day programme.
Was good to meet you yesterday , the commercial twitter feed is advertised In the match day programme every home game. Keep the ideas coming , they are being taken On board , some will feed through eventually.
Had a thought yesterday, many pubs hold raffles especially in the lead up to Christmas. Would it be possible to donate a couple of stand tickets as a prize. That would get some free publicity in the venue plus the winner is likely to talk about it afterwards.
Lets have more meaningful raffles on a regular basis!!!!
I think Welling merchandise would be great prizes...I for one would buy tickets for shirts or jackets or.........
I am afraid that a bottle of dodgy wine and a box of chocolates doesnt do it.......the raffle could be run over 4 home games so that the value of returns is good enough
Paul, No pub in mind as my watering hole is accross the borough boundary.
MarkX, Always willing to get feedback on the raffles and will take up with Gary in the shop on Saturday. Remember going to an away game last season and there was a meat raffle announced. Can't remember but think was either Dorchester or Eastleigh.
Who won the "Welliephant" the large elephant doll?
Can't remember the actual person but from memory it was a lady fan. Possible could have been a fan from an opposing team as most weeks away supporters buy tickets.
We may not have the highest home attendance figures in the division but I see that with an average of 619 we have the highest away average by a considerable margin. Seems to prove that our hardcore support are prepared to travel in greater numbers and more often than fans of other clubs in this league. Well done all regular travellers. Hopefully many new venues to visit next season.

Jamie already clearly thinks so. I've always thought of us on that front as the Man City of this league, in having fans who are prepared to travel anywhere.

I think you will find that this logic doesn't really stack up. What Greendale failed to mention is that that away figure is heavily distorted thanks to;
A) 2,500 combined gates at Farnborough and Bromley, both of whom had very cheap entry offers on for the games. I doubt that either club has reached half of that figure for any other game.
B) 1k+ gates at Dover & Salisbury.
I'm not saying we have a good or poor away support compared to others, but by using that to claim we have a fantastic away following is way off the mark.
I have to disagree with you Blackfen Dave. The Farnborough gate was 564, a mere 74 above their average and my recollection is that there were a good number of Wings fans in attendance.
Bromley? Yes the gate was certainly considerably increased by the cheap prices but the extras were both home and away supporters. Everyone I know that goes to Welling went to Bromley and though it can only be a guess I would be surprised if there were not a good 500 there supporting the Wings.
Salisbury and Dover? Yes both were 1000+ attendances but in both cases there was a very large Welling support. In fact a Salisbury fan said to me that they had not had such a big away support there for a league game since they were in the Blue Square Premier.
With such a large difference between our average away gate and that of the second highest, I believe that we have the largest away support in this division.
I'm baffled where this figure of 1250 for the game at Farnborough comes from. I was at the game and certainly don't remember it as being a 1200+ crowd.
Our own programmes, the report on our site, a post made at the time on Farnborough's forum and even Farnborough's own video of the game all give an attendance of 564. Unfortunately Farnborough's official site's results page doesn't show attendances. Perhaps someone can clarify this.
