I would just like to applaud the defence this season after watching Anthony score Again last night Patsy, Matt Scott and I went through the programme and these stats i thought are worthy of a mention on the forum.
This year Welling have played...
6 home league matches winning all 6.
The defence have kept 4 clean sheets BUT amazingly
v Hornchurch -- Anthony Acheampong 2 goals
v Truro -- Anthony Acheampong 1 goal
v Dorchester -- Franks 1 goal
v Boreham Wood -- Franks 1 goal
v Havant & W -- Martin 1 Goal
v Farnboro -- Anthony Acheampong 1 goal.
Well done lads.
Ps -- JGFC I May have to rethink my first scorer now on Fantasy Wings .!!
Big Ben will be seething (joke), Great volley that Ant sidefooted in on the line. To be fair to Ant i thought it hit him and went in but he threw some shapes on the line and sidefooted it in from 4 inches. Good work from Ben and Ant.
Probably the best defensive scoring players for Welling than when we had Glover in the late 80s early 90s

Yes we definitely seem to have tightened up at the back in the last two games so credit to the back five for that. We know this team can score goals so, with clean sheets, we will win a lot of games.
Also with the great set piece delivery we have we are now starting to get more goals from our centre backs.
Only one slight criticism on my part - in the last couple of home games there have been occasions when we needed to "hoof" it clear and we simply haven't done it. I know the team are encouraged to play out from the back and pass it around but, at times, we need to clear our lines more effectively and simply smashing it out or up the field would suffice. We gave away a stupid corner last night due to an awful back pass and Motty had to make a good save from the corner which should have been totally unnecessary. Nitpicking I know and I expect it was picked up on by the management anyway.
Also...Unless I am mistaken havent we scored in EVERY league game this year meaning that the opposition ALWAYS has to get at least one to get anything from the game
Slightly off the point, but I seem to remember John Budden playing up front away to Woking. He scored two goals whilst Charlie Side was sitting on the bench.

This team has ability throughout, goal scorers in all departments, for me the key is defending well and setting out to keep a clean sheet ,from this basic, winning possession, and getting the ball down early, so our passing game can develop.
I wonder how many goals have come from set pieces, corner and free kicks, when our defenders can join in, get in the box and add a bit of power?
Its great to see players with arial power, also players who can deliver quality ball for the likes of Antony, Ben and Fraser to challenge for.As the season has progressed they are getting better and better in attack and winning ball and as the record shows scoring more and more.It takes alot to stop these lads now.
For me this is a big ace for us, we have very fit players who work hard off the ball and score in open play. The day will come when Wings as a team will all have a blinder together... soon.
A little prediction... before long we will take some poor team to the cleaners, big time, before this season is out.

I agree with these observations, and I would like to add, I think we are seeing the footballing philosophy Jamie believes in. But sometimes there is always the need to clear it with a big HOOF.

We certainly have scored in every league game, and I think in every cup match too? I think the last time we didn't score in a match was a pre-season friendly.
Copes chipped in with a few as a centre half before we launched him up front with his knee in a brace. The cry of "Big man coming" was reminisent of a german porn star
We've certainly scored in every league game this season. We've also won our last 10 at home which is one game off from equalling the conference south home wins record. While I'm on the stats, Weston haven't won a match where the opposition has scored since mid October...
