Braintree FC is offering free season tickets to under 16s under a scheme sponsored by the GMB. I wonder which trade union has a regional office right next to our ground?
Don't be too hasty, PW. The GMB has sponsored a number of football clubs and UNISON backs a number of sports and even has advertising boards at Bromley FC of all places. Politics has nothing to do with it . Like all organisations, unions are advertising for customers. In some cases, such as UNISON, they have their own insurance companies, holiday firms and holiday centres and dedicated building societies. They are as shrewd operators as any good business - and, in these difficult times, with a bargaining base of millions of signed up "customers" they are looking to do deals with business to offer all sorts of better terms and rates for their members, and get noticed for doing so. Would you turn the Co-op away, the chamber of commerce or the CBI, RCN, Police Federation?
