Being a bit of a numpty at all things technical,I am not able to give a link for this but I see that Vauxhall Motors are trying to get their FA cup side that beat Q.P.R in 2002 together for a charity game in August as part of their 50th celebrations. What about that kind of thing for us? Or maybe the previous title winning team in the 80s? I appreciate they may not be able to play a full 90 minutes but some sort of game or celebration on a particular Sunday?
I have an idea that might be a nice one to boost sales and also bring people together. We could have a 'largest ever Team Photo' event, where everyone with a Welling United shirt can come down on an agreed date and pose for a photo with the first team squad. It could either be made specifically for anyone who buys a home, away or goalie shirt for 13/14 season - and in which case with the fact shirts are mainly ordered as and when demand dictates - the date may need to be Sept/Oct.
The photos could then be sold, and also put on mugs, t-shirts etc. So the club would win both in potentially people would choose to buy a new shirt so they could take part, plus additional sales afterwards for merchandise.
I appreciate not everyone likes to buy a replica shirt, but it's an idea, some might go for it and if it proved popular it would only help the club and give plenty of supporters a nice event too.
Like it...BUT should be for anyone that has ANY Welling shirt over the past 50 years...would be some good retro ones there too as I know some have kept them

Yeah, I agree with that. It may still encourage people to buy the new shirts but would also be inclusive and a better way to celebrate the occasion.

Like you and I can get into our old replica shirts Mark
So what, if anything, are the club going to do about the 50th anniversary? There hasn't, as far as I'm aware, been any news from the club regarding this event? Surely, negotiations should have started last season to see if any premier / championship clubs from the past could play at PVR? It appears poor from the club if nothing at all happens - if there are things happening, then I apologise, but I wont hold my breath.
Chelmsford really going to town on its 75th anniversary celebrations - two Premiership teams for home friendlies, as Bruno points out elsewhere, and loads of other activities. What a contrast.
I see we are playing Leatherhead.............why are we not playing Egham Town who are also celebrating 50 years......why Leatherhead.....do we have history with them?

I went to school there, and its 5mins away on the train .......
I dont see why everyone gets so worked up by friendlies the MAIN reason for them is to get the team ready for the opening day......Daisy needs to work on his formation etc...they are NOT for the joy of us
Yes have one or maybe two high profile ones BUT the rest are for work in progress

Revenue, the Charlton friendly will pay the wages during pre season.

Pre season friendlies are important, for various reasons. Firstly, if we could manage to get a few big name clubs to PVR, it would give Jamie to chance to play decent oppos and test our strengths / weaknesses against strong teams.
Secondly, it would generate much needed revenue for the club.
Thirdly, it could make our local profile that much better with us now being a CIC and you never know, with decent advertising, it could attract new fans to the club.
Fourth, it's our 50th anny this year and the club do not appear to give a rodents rectum.
Fifth - playing lower league clubs is a good way of blooding new/trialist Wings players and that must continue. The Conny Premier is a harder league to survive in and we need all the help that we can get.
Sixth - In Jamie we trust - he has a hard enough job, as do the rest of the staff, to keep us in the League. Last season was great and excellent that the core of the players have signed up again. However, we need the financial structure to keep us afloat. How can we trust the incumbents that we have at present to see us through the season and beyond?
Might i suggest we contact all clubs in Europa League or Champions League in the Premier League and ask if we can have a friendly during the season to celebrate 50 years, saying the date is flexible and can be done if they get knocked out of Europe. I believe Spurs and Fulham have played friendlies when theyve gone out of Europe. It may also be possible on the international weeks if we havent got a game in midweek a club may be able to send a reasonable team down.
Without being too demanding, suggesting if a sprinkling of names can be circulated as appearing it would help the promoting of the game.
