I find this very strange. We do not seem to have many friendlies compared with recent seasons. Perhaps it is a deliberate policy? Or maybe we have to accommodate E&B&Q more as they have gone up a league?
Four team tournament including the likes of Blackburn to celebrate 50 years was mooted on here at least six months ago. All the time in the world to arrange it, and we haven't. Big surprise.
What annoys me just as much, however, is the fact I questioned why it wasn't going ahead on the WUSA forum weeks ago and received no reply. The minutes from the relevant WUSA meeting simply stated "The four-club tournament proposed at PVR would not be taking place". No explanation as to why, just "That's that, now lets move on". If the reasons are valid ones, then fair enough. But tell us.

You seem to think that WUSA is responsible for all things WUFC???
Perhaps the club will get off it's ar$e (unlikely I know) and arrange something........
Typical Welling, 50th year of the Club and seemingly no game against top drawer opposition arranged. Very disappointed with this as was an opportunity to get some of the old faces back and also celebrate the league title last season. Remember a pre season game against Arsenal long time back, team full of Intenationals , John Hartson etc. Should have tried to get Rangers FC down would have sold out the ground. Seems that not a lot is happening, are we sure that we have been promoted or is something up?

Some years ago, all the 'big' clubs didn't go off on tours to the Far East or play in 4 team tournaments against other big clubs. The game has changed to such an extent that even if we got to the 3rd round of the cup and drew one of the big four, they would play a side full of players who were unknown to the majority of us.

I don't blame WUSA for not arranging a tournament - I blame them for not communicating the reasons why to the supporters.
If the club have just rested on their laurels and not even made an effort to arrange it, I want to know. And even if there are valid financial/logistical reasons, I still want to know. What odds on me actually receiving an honest answer if I were to PTC? That's the only reason I pay a WUSA membership fee - to receive additional information.

I would love to see Rangers down here but I don't think the police would sanction the game. True Scottish Rangers supporters are not a problem but the London crowd how have affiliated them self to Rangers have caused problems at almost every game Rangers have played in England for the last 20 odd years. The trouble in Manchester for the UEFA Cup Final is an example. Of the 200+ arrested only 17 had Scottish addresses. A good friend of mine is an Inspector with Strathclyde Police and was in Manchester and when he tried to tell the relevent authorities that trouble was brewing, he was told to shut it and pushed back. An official complaint was put into the Manchester Police by my friend and his colleagues(mostly from Stratchclyde Police) about the handling of the situation.

Hasnt stopped teams in our league getting premier league x1s for a friendly. You could have expected a showpiece game to mark the 50 years.
We had an Arsenal XI two summers ago. Maybe Daysie is working on getting a decent Arsenal old boys team to play at PVR. They would bring in more than an Arsenal team full of sixteen year old pampered kids that will end up on the scrapheap.
Boa Morte could still test Welling's defence in a pre-season, I'm sure.
Welling must have decent oppostion lined up at home on 3rd August as Jamie would like to test his starting XI for the following week against a strong team.
Is that the real chelsea side or is it one of those xi teams.
Sutton are playing an XI that will include players that no-body (other than Chelsea supporters) knows.
To my shame my oldest has supported that team since he was knee high to a grasshopper and I am afraid when he has seen XI team sheets he has had a job identifying the players.
As Jamie is currently on tour (Barbados) with an Arsenal legends side, is it beyond the realms of possibility that he has sounded out players for a friendly as veterans/or Arsenal XI against the Wings?

with the Manchester problem wasn't it the police let too many people in to that fan party with the big screens and then none of them worked once the game kicked off?
Exactly. The police massively underestimated the size of the expected crowd, that and lack of information about screen problem led to massive crowds trying to leave and go to pubs showing the match

Whatever the reasons for the difficultes I don't think Rangers supporters, whether they are from North of the border or South, need much of an excuse to cause trouble. I would not want them anywhere near PVR. If Rangers came to London they would paly a premership side who could cope with the size of their following.
Mind you there were rumours that they were threatening to quit Scotland and have talks with the conference national so we could get them in the league!!
6 league clubs at home , one of them local and two recent premier league teams.
That should bring them in fortunes which will help with them attracting players and getting a bigger budget.
Good shout and all those above too. The club have had years to organise our 50th anniversary and bring in much needed revenue and what have they done? To quote Kevin - ' joke '
Could TBKIAH not use his contacts with Villa and get Lambert to send down an XI?
I haven't got a clue what TBKIAH means, but, it appears that we are way behind with decent oppos in pre season. Who organises the friendlies, the club or the manager?
we have only signed one real new boy (Loick is one of us), so we dont need as many friendlies but then we probably should have had 4 or 5 home ones and a couple of away ones at say Maidstone and Margate,
No point having 10 friendlies when you havent got 25 players needing a run out so Jamie can see if they are any good.

I agree in principle? but, going back to Brunos original thread, what have we got compared to other teams? It's our 50th for goodness sake. With all deference to Charlton etc, we need big clubs to come to PVR to generate income. Have the Hobbins done anything to augment this?

A friendly is better than a training session but I think some of the ones we see on other sites might be for fringe players / reserves.
I would guess because our tenants have a few "home" games lined up as well during pre season.
I was hoping for a sterner test on 3rd August than Leatherhead. I know there is a connection with Jamie Coyle but we start for real on the 10th and need to hit the ground running. I am not sure a Ryman One South opponent for the last friendly is ideal...
To be fair it is a CAFC XI. I do believe we are the only team to get the "proper" Charlton.
Taken from the CAFC website:
The match is the fifth friendly announced for the Addicks, who will likely consist of a number of players from the clubs title-winning development squad.
