"We cannot accommodate the myriad tastes of all sport lovers..." So you will happily cover a conference south game where there station is over a mile from the station that a conference premier game with easier access and a friendly atmosphere....we cover all expectations of clubs who should be covered....and yet, we are not....RADIO KENT ARE (insert inappropriate language here)

I complained to the BBC about the lack of coverage of Welling United FC, below is their response.
Dear Mr Johnson
Reference CAS-2283218-Z3JK0S
Thanks for contacting us.
We understand you feel theres been a lack of coverage of Welling United FC.
We try to give a wide range of sporting activities, teams and competitors as much coverage as possible. Im sure you can appreciate that, despite our best efforts, we cannot accommodate the myriad tastes of all sport lovers. A difficult decision has to be made by the BBC on the level of coverage given to sporting events and which live sport will receive live coverage. The choices we make will not be appreciated by all sections of our audience.
I understand the strength of your comments and I'd like to assure you that Ive registered your complaint on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback thats made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.
The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
Kind Regards
Kevin Freeburn

What a crock of ****, its not going to get discussed at board level is it, non-league football.
I'm emailing in ... a simple 'there are two teams in a football match, if you interview one manager you should interview both' can't possibly be gotten out of.
Sounds like a generic fob off response to me. BBC are a joke for a public funded body. They're happy to overpay people severance packages, yet can't seem to muster a badge for our club on their website, let alone cover the team.

This is true it's made available (on an intranet staff website) - but it's never looked at much by staff or managers, except for the odd hilarious complaint. The audience feedback logs include all sorts - radio, tv, online, licence fee complaints - it's huge and will not get any response.
The only way is going to the BBC Trust. I will draft a letter about this as I worked at the BBC for 14 years and know exactly how complaints are dealt with and the issue with BBC London and BBC Kent. All we have to do is start to gather evidence of the coverage BBC Kent are giving other non-league Kent clubs and compare what they give us. Job done.
BBC London, apart from maybe Barnet, don't cover any non league clubs and have far too many London league clubs to focus on.
Worth noting we were formed a couple of years before the London Borough's were introduced. It's BBC Kent's job to covers us - if they can't because they don't have the budget, staff etc. then fine - but don't go covering other clubs. It can't be one rule for one, one for another. BBC should equal impartiality and it's the BBC Trust's job to ensure this.
Also worth noting that BBC Kents excuse for no longer covering us, is that we are not in Kent, just doesn't add up, considering they cover Charlton & Blackheath RFC
I think I've mentioned this before but the BBC don't read this forum. So we can rant and rave on here as much as we want but nothing will happen. If we ALL make a complaint then something will happen as although it's only a generic response, it costs them time and money to send a response.
If we successfully started a campaign to not pay our TV licences until we got some coverage, the BBC would jump to attention immediately!
Many senior politicians don't pay their tv license and have faced no criminal action. Although I don't think we'll have the same immunity from prosecution....
BUT what you can put in your complaint is that if coverage of Welling does not improve you will start watching TV and radio content online (iPlayer, 4oD etc.) instead of via a TV set, and stop paying the tv license. This is perfectly legal until the government closes the loophole. You can also mention to them that Welling get's 1,000+ supporters at many games and that you will be recommending many of these supporters to do the same.
If they get that a few dozen times. They'll soon wake up!
Everyone complaining to the BBC is by far the best option, along with Banning BBC Kent from covering our Dartford match, if nothing improves it could be worth considering a total ban on the BBC, tomorrows game is again available online from BBC Hereford & Worcester, it is unfair that we are playing in the same league as these clubs, but get no coverage, compared to the likes of Dartford & Kidderminster
Radio Kent are a pile of crap and proven liars and just move the goalposts to suit them, its that cheap bontempi in the corner of the musical shop sitting next to the Steinway's, a joke of a Station.
Harsh to ban other BBC stations just because Radio Kent is a shambles but i agree a ban on Radio Kent has no downside and will earn us money with Dartford fans more likely to attend if no commentary. They dont update our BBC page or do interviews etc so they cant say they need access to do that either.

Well done Paul White and the club, great free local publicity ... lots on tomorrow, discounts, photos, a junior tournament, more great work off the field ... but lots more to do.
COYWs.
The original letter is a non-letter...classic standard response, probably computer generated, hence fails to address issue raised. The only way to get a real response is for 20+ to write to football focus within the same week. That just might bring a reporter down to PVR!
