It was in 1995 that I left my home town of Welling and ironically moved to Bristol (Brislington). Good luck in the FA Cup tomorrow.
Just a few tips, if you are travelling by train to Temple Meads, you need the X39 (X339) from the left bus stop at the bottom of the station entrance. It takes about 15 mins to get to the ground, The stop for the ground is opposite the Park and Ride entrance in Brislington . The nearest pub is over a mile away from the ground (Good Intent In Broomhill Road). The Reckless Engineer at the the bottom of the station approach is ok before you get on the bus. Be aware the roads on the M4 and will be busy as the Rugby World cup is on in Cardiff and trains to South Wales are terminating at Bristol due to the Severn Tunnel being closed.
If you are driving from the M4, keep going along the A4 until you see the Bath Road park and ride, just before you start on the dual carriage way the entrance is on your left. the best place to park is by turning left at the main traffic lights before the dual carriage way, you will see Mcdonalds on the left by the traffic lights in the roads on the industrial estate (Emery Road BS4). the ground is about 5 mins walk.

Good luck and hopefully see you there tomorrow.
Thanks Paul. The Reckless Engineer isn't too bad but I think we may venture a bit further into Bristol before heading to Brislington. How regular are buses afterwards?
Mark, The park and ride buses (no'904) back to the centre leave at 15, 30, 45 and 00 , the last one is at 1845 and costs £3 return, not sure about the x39(x339) times though.
Cheers, Andy.
Spot on Sherpa. You don't get any extra priority for scoring more. In round one and that's all that matters. Welling United v Wolverhampton Wanderers has a nice look about it
Thank god for that. I was starting to think that all our travelling supporters had been sacrificed to the Wicker Man!...
Listerned to the 2nd half on Radio Wings & it sounded well lively, x2 smoke flares set off, pitch invader & stuff thrown on the pitch, all by the home support I might add.

Yes, there were a good number of village idiots amongst the crowd. They may well have been the bandwagon but there was no tannoy telling the crowd to stop nor any obvious stewarding.
That was probably as badly as I have ever seen us play, we brought ourselves down to their level but we got what was needed. Admittedly much of it was down to the pitch, players seemed unable to take defenders on 1v1 because the ball would either bobble, or they would lose their footing when turning quickly. Faz was my MOTM, thought he showed genuine intent when bombing forward. Won't go into too much detail about the performance - £12.5k in the bank and a return to the FA Cup proper is the most important thing.
Onto Brislington - the behaviour of the opposition "fans" was appalling. I put fans in quotation marks because I suspect most of the troublemakers have never been to a Brislington game before and were simply there to cause problems. Flares came onto the pitch twice, while another 18 year old "hard nut" came onto the pitch, nicked Lee Butcher's water bottle and squirted it everywhere. There was no stewarding bar 4 blokes in hi-vis' that did absolutely nothing. They must have anticipated a record crowd, and when there are no hoardings between supporters and players it could easily lead to serious trouble - if they had equalised a pitch invasion would have been inevitable. The referee and his assistants were also some of the worst I have witnessed.
I also wonder why a couple of individuals down our end bother coming to games. By all means make noise, but if you're determined to spout the same unfunny crap about your mate throughout the game then save our eardrums and do it somewhere else. When they did shout things relevant to the game it would be to berate a Welling player. At one point Loick looked over after he'd been given a verbal hammering - that'll do his confidence the world of good. If that's your attitude when you come to support a team, bugger off down the other end with the Brislington knuckle-draggers.
crowd was easily there best ever...mindless inbred city fans and useless stewards who watched the game rather than the crowd.Roll on tomorrow...anyone for daventry
