Without doubt we have over-achieved so far. You can only punch above your weight for so long before you end up taking more than you deliver.

At the start I would have taken survival in this league...and I still will. Indeed I think we will survive which means a great season.

The FA Cup could be a useful distraction IF it generates enough much needed £££!

Our crowds are up but not by enough really.

When hit by injuries, suspensions and 2 matches a week things could get a bit difficult, and if we make some £££ then squad additions will improve our chances. Also, lengthening some contracts would be sensible to prevent other clubs cherry picking some of our best players for no real fee.

We may slip down the league a bit, but any moaners should refect on just how far the club has moved forward on the pitch this past 3 years.

If at the end of the season we still have the same management team and conference status we can rightly celebrate.

- On the pitch: We can finish in the top half, no doubt about it.

- Off the pitch: Yes it's nice to increase attendances, but just as important is generating more income from those fans (both home and away) that come through the gates. For god sake, get round a table with Erith & Belvedere and sort out the situation with their bar once and for all. The other day we had 740 away fans at the ground. That's 740 people who could spend money in the bar.

- Finally, and most importantly, get Daisy and the management team on a new contract.

The situation against Luton was a farce...queues all half time for their supporters to buy something from the single refreshment van...many returning to their seats with nothing...only to sit over an empty and closed bar. If the council own the ground then heads should be banged together.

You cannot survive big time on the pitch if you remain small time off it.

Stay in this league by getting sufficient points on the pitch and doing what we have to off it to comply with the regs.

Give Jamie a fair budget but be conscious money made from FA Cup\Trophy that does not go towards complying with the regs from here on in is a bonus and should be used to wipe out what  we can of historic debt. I suspect any prize money for league placing is insignificant to the extra you have to spend to get it (especially as we can't\won't go up).

Make sure the management team are on contracts that are fair to them should they get a decent offer to move up but fair to us in any compensation due (and if possible, in a timely fashion) as I have a strong feeling an offer may come from down the A2 in the summer, unless Peter Taylor's lucky suit works better than it did at Southend...

If Peter Taylor doesn't improve things then I can see Scally changing tack and going down a different route for his next manager....

However he might now look at Forest Green's current manager as well as our own and a lot depends on what the relationship is/was between Scally and Pennock/Ashby during thier time with the Gills....

Gills and Pennock in legal bust-up

CULT HERO: Adrian Pennock made 199 appearances for Gillingham

CULT HERO: Adrian Pennock made 199 appearances for Gillingham

GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally has rejected former player Adrian Pennocks claims that the club owe him up to £100,000.

Pennock claims the club have reneged on a deal to give him a testimonial match and has instructed sports law firm Edwin Coe to pursue the matter.

The cult hero, who played 199 times for Gills before retiring through injury in 2002, says he accepted a lower lump sum when the club paid up the last year of his contract in exchange for a potentially lucrative testimonial game.

And Pennock claims that, despite setting up a testimonial committee, he has been frustrated in his attempts to arrange a game.

Mr Scally said he never made such a deal, claiming the responsibility to arrange the testimonial always laid firmly with Pennock.

He said: "It was never part of the deal that we would arrange a testimonial for him. I just said he could have a testimonial game because of his service to the club but he would have to sort it out himself. It was his responsibility.

"And I dont know where they are getting this figure of £100,000 from. Im astonished that he has taken this course of action. There is not a single Gillingham player who hasnt been paid every penny due to them."

Pennock, who is manager of Conference South promotion-chasers Welling, said: "The fans will understand that it grieves me to have to take action against my old club. It really upsets me that it has come to this."

Hi all i'm a new member but thought i'd give me view on this :) My expectations are really moderate I like most would love to see us get promotion but tbh I think sneaking a play of place is best we can wish for this season :(. I have only recently been coming to watch us and its clear even to me we lack the strength in depth and really lack a cutting edge finisher and a creative destroyer to run middle of the park. I would just be happy if we could improve the squad as to me at moment we rely to much on certain players and when get few injuries (like at the moment) it really shows how weak squad is at moment :( anyways "It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint" cmon you wings :)

Two defeats on the spin amidst a challenging run of fixtures. Is this a tipping point or can we come up with something special again?

Talking of overachievers, I've only just noticed where Alfreton are in the league. I expected them to be battling Hyde to stay up this season.

Very good Wings63/Troll type thread, it has a few fans fooled into discussing if its all going to go tits up or if we are a small club in a big league lol. Ask Cambridge, United, Grimsby, Wrexham, Luton etc if theyve all hammered us and outplayed us?

Just keep concentrating lads and believe in yourselves and look at the past games to show you it isnt a fluke..

The team have more than proved they belong in this league and can finish higher than they are and are still in the FA Cup.

I believe Alfreton have a large budget.

We remain the only miracle workers!

I mentioned 2-3 weeks ago.
Budget versus league points, Welling are the top dog for sure. But lets not dwell on that, need to keep doing it.

So having a debate on a debate forum about realistic expectations makes me a troll!! Get real!
