I am a Nottingham Forest fan who lives on Shooters Hill. I read this forum, but haven't posted before. I used to be a season ticket holder at Forest but time and money prevents me from getting to enough Forest games from here to get my football fix. I am closer to Charlton than Welling, and I like Charlton, but it would be betrayal watching another Championship side. So I've managed to clear enough of my Saturdays to get down to Park View Road this season.
It is ace. I love football again. Thank you Welling. The ground is brilliant, and makes the experience for me. I love that you can stand on all four sides of the pitch. I used to do that at Notts County as a kid too. That was before Meadow Lane was redeveloped into a sterile all seated twenty thousander that is 75% empty seats on match days. Nothing kills the atmosphere quite like a stand full of empty seats.
You don't get half the BS in the Conference that you get higher up the leagues... the ticket prices, all seaters, season long loans, Champion League clubs stockpiling talent, Richard Scudamore, etc. Forest have had a nineteen year old on loan this season who earns 35k and he has looked disinterested most of the time. It is nonsense.
I went to Charlton v Forest and Welling v Barnet in the same week earlier in the season, both ended 1-1. I genuinely enjoyed the Conference game more. I get excited now before the games as I used to going to Forest. And even if they've hit a rough patch, it was to be expected wasn't it? 35 points at this stage is punching above their weight for a club on Welling's budget. And the Hyde thing happens. I remember some years back Sheff Utd beating Forest for their first win of the season in the top flight some twenty-odd games in. Forest had Pearce, Walker, Keane, Clough in that side. It was a bit embarrassing, but they still had a great season and it was soon forgotten.
I subscribe to the WingsTV. Congratulations to the guy on who puts the fifteen minute highlights and the interviews together. It is a great service. I subscribe to Forest player too and it is horrible in comparison.
There is a point to this, I just have some questions:
The minutes applause? Can somebody please explain this? I haven't heard who it is for?
The rules regarding stadiums. I read, I think on here, that PVR will not meet Conference regulations in a couple of seasons. Is this an actual league rule or just speculation? If it is a rule, can anybody explain what the rule actually it is please? Also, I know this may be fantasy land, but regards promotion to the Football League - is that even a possibility for a club playing at PVR?
Kriss Akabusi. What is the link?
Any news on Jake Gallagher? I hope he is back soon. He seems to get away with one 'loose' tackle every game, but without him the midfield seems to lack some bite. Welling looked like they were overrun when he went off against Wrexham. And he was just the kind of player they could have done with against Dartford.
Anyway, I have a couple more Forest fans coming to the game with me tomorrow. I told them the Woking game will be good. So hoping for a Welling win. Red and white too. What is not to like?
Long post. Come you the Wings!

Don't bother with the Valley - our pitch is in better nick anyway!

Just a minor blip (we hope) - in Day we trust

I am also a subscriber and it is an excellent service

One of our regulars (home and away) was very sadly taken from us in the Summer. He was a regular at PVR as is his Dad and brothers. He was 25 so in the 25th minute of every Welling game there is some applause to remember him (not that he will ever be forgotten) The club has also very kindly given him a squad number (12) for this season.
The rules regarding stadiums. I read, I think on here, that PVR will not meet Conference regulations in a couple of seasons. Is this an actual league rule or just speculation? There is some work needing to be done by end of March to meet ground grading criteria. The heirarchy at the club says it is all in hand - make of that what you will........
Kriss Akabusi. What is the link?
Others are better placed to answer this one

Our injury list is long and seemingly never ending! Jake has been excellent for a season and a half and is sorely missed although he will be suspended soon after he comes back

I hope you and your mates enjoy the "PVR experience" and keep coming back. No love lost with Woeking but we will need to improve drastically on the last couple of games

The minute's applause in the 25th minute is for a fan, Adam Shulver, who sadly passed away before the start of the season aged 25. If you look on the squad section of the official website you can find out a bit more about him.
I don't know the exact ruling on the stadium regulations, but I believe we have to add another turnstile, and do some work on the cricket ground side to increase the official capacity to 4000.
As for Akabusi, all I can say is, Awooga!
Jake Gallagher still "a few weeks away", as all our players seem to be when we get an injury update!
Really proud of WingsTV this season and the work the others do (Greg Bettles doing all the manager and player interviews and being main commentator on Radio Wings and Dan Harrison and Joe McCrory helping him through the season and putting in the miles), the aim is to give better services than the Player service for league clubs. We should be at Gateshead on Tuesday night to bring highlights on WingsTV along with live Radio Wings to keep up the good work this season.
Every game home and away so far on WingsTV is some going in this league.

Already achieved.
Thanks for the replies.
Park View Road has to be brought up to speed by March? Blimey. Hopefully that is possible.
Yep, I picked up from this site that there is a bit of edge to Welling v Woking. I thought it would be a good one for them to go to.
On the lack of Welling coverage in the media...I did my bit. I shared Joe Healy's goal at Grimsby all over the place. On the Forest forum too. I didn't get much of a response on there I'll be honest. But, what a goal.
The winner in that Sheff Utd game was almost certainly scored by Tony Agana. Was he good? He is still Notts County's record signing. It didn't quite work out for him there I don't think, but I was at Meadow Lane the night he scored a belter against Ardiles' Spurs (Klinsmann, Sheringham, Dumitrescu, Campbell et el) in a 3-0 League Cup win.
I get the feeling I'll never get an answer to to Akabusi question.
Enjoy the game tomorrow. A big three points for Welling hopefully.
My ears were burning more than my dungaree's gooch support after a brisk run w**k so I'd check in to see what all the fuss was about.
The answer to your question? it's so obvious .... AWOOGA!
Great post mate, and echoes a lot of the reasons why i got fed up with watching Premier League football (extortionate prices, appallingly high wages, sanitised atmosphere, diving, football no longer being for the working class man etc).
I too have been bringing mates who live locally but support other clubs and they've loved it, and been pleasantly surprised at the standard of football played. One mate in particular is a Yeovil fan who misses the banter and the fact that you can still swap terraces at half time to stand behind the goal your team is attacking.
So, welcome to PVR, just don't bring a drum, the natives don't like it!!
extra turnstiles. a new toilet block, and raise one end by for steps to bring ground capacity to 4000.
And yes apparently (and allegedly) we could play league two football at PVR if the situation arose.
And don't forget to tell your mates that time old welling tradition to try every real ale on sale in the clubhouse during happy hour and the Awooga will be apparent.
Once they have done that they have to see Dave in the shop and hand over their cash for a shirt and a scarf and then see Polo about becoming a WUSA member and then go on an away day or two
Well that wasn't a bad game to take my friends to, with Welling dominating almost from the start. They all enjoyed the game, watched the highlights again this morning, and said they'd keep an eye out for the results. I missed the Forest Green game earlier in the season, so that was the biggest win I've seen for Welling too. It could have been more. So yeah, a good game for them to see.
On that third goal, we wondered if Colin Clarke ever scored against Dave Beasant in their playing days (and yes he did, for QPR against Chelsea...maybe for Southampton against Wimbledon too).
Nice to hear Jamie Day talk about bringing in young players and helping them develop and move on, even if it is a shame Welling lost Franks mid-season.
I can't make the next one, but I shall be back at PVR for the Gateshead game and no doubt plenty more before the end of the season.
Up the Wings.

Thought it was fairly even first half, though we had the better opportunities, but made the most of the numerical advantage second half to see off the opposition with a style we were used to awhile back.
