I wasn't even around in the 70s or 80s but appreciate that it's part of our tradition, and don't want it to be replaced by something that has no link to the club.
Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, please
Yes we can look backwards all the time or we can see this as a new Welling with the best management team we've ever had, a commercial department that's finally getting somewhere and hopefully a team that can cement its place in the Skrill Premier. Yes we know our history but we should look forward not back. London Calling for me.
Valid points, but I fail to see how any of them tie in with adopting a song from 1979.
Small steps. I'm not sure your average Welling person is quite ready for Avicii although I was wondering how many of our current team would be familiar with the Clash.
we are a national side now and a team comes down from north to us and hears London Calling knows they are in London, they come to PVR and hear parklife they would get the connection, ANSUN sorry Hyde did
Anyone who thinks we needs to change our song should have a word with themselves. We have one, its tradition.
Why not change it to the Birdie Song then its got more connection with the club than London Calling especially for the fans of this club who believe we are a KENT club. As for the need to get with the times. Tell that to Birmingham City and Charlton who run out to seperate songs from 1926 Keep Right On and the Red Red Robin.. or the teams running out to the Star Wars theme, Delilah, Fanfare for the common man, Z Cars etc etc. Theyve never seen the need to break from tradition.

We have one that we haven't used for years. Not much of a tradition in my opinion.
if we are going on the tradition argument the club went from yellow and green to red kit so I am led to believe that's why the away kit was the 50 year kit also our club badge has evolved over the years, our programmes started out as team sheets and now a proper programme, we had a cow shed now we have a stand - things move on it called progress.
If we want to get silly and now asking to play the birdie song I will name two songs that is really associated with the club recent history Mr Taxman by Eric and taxman by the beatles but I would not dare ask or expect them to become our club song.
For me I would take ParkLife over London Calling for several reason's but it not my choice what is played on match day. ( I suspect it will be London Calling as the team comes out).
I am not anti tradition and do not believe in change for change sake, but I do believe in progress and if things do evolve and move on and make the club a better environment to enjoy football then I am all for it.
A classic example is the Vespa take a look how that has changed over the last 60 year looks completely different today but it still a Vespa, and our club has changed over the last 50 years but it is still Welling United.

If you are going to post at least be correct, we ran out to it over the festive period. Its more to do with it not being played by the tannoy rather than being abandonded by the club.
The FACT remains Aint No Stopping Us now has always been regarded s the club song by many and has been used since 1977 , it has FAR MORE meaning to the club than London Calling or Parklife and it is TRADITION.
You can say you dont like it to try and get it replaced or you want an upto date song like London Calling from 1979 but please dont insult people by ignoring fact or tradition who heard the song at PVR since 1977, which is possibly before you went to PVR.
To have one or two try and dispose of what has always been to many the club song... IS OFFENSIVE.

Can't believe this is even a discussion, let alone one where people are going to such extremes.
Just leave it as it is. Or let the players and management decide.
Let's talk football shall we.
As Kevin has said let the management decide go back to Pauls thread and he said and I quote "I took it on board to make that the run out tune As it had the desired effect we shall keep it for the remainder of the season" so my take is they have decided.
One or two have not tried to dispose of the song - The Club played the tune first last week and Andrew started this thread basically saying he liked it - Paul has confirmed that he made it the run out tune and said he would keep it for the remainder of the season, the rest of the debate has been around the merit of the song chosen.
