Not even the Herculean efforts of young Barry could have saved this one - horrific weather. Looks like our newest loan signings will just get two outings.
Agreed the forecast for tomorrow is horrendous but am a bit pertubed the game has been called off so early and hope undue weight hasn't been given to Gateshead's journey.
Hardly any other games have been called off as yet and do hope in particular that any plans Gateshead might have had to travel down today and stay overnight had no bearing on the decision.
If Gateshead had needed to plan to travel down on the day for the game to have stood a chance for a bit longer then so be it. After all we had a round trip on the day to them. It just seems suspiciously early when few other games have suffered the same fate at this stage.
Noted Spitey, inspections arent normal on a Friday, unless its horrendous and obvious waiting until the Saturday is a waste on time, but i agree with you, sod their journey, we can't be soft of people for that.
However, playing them on a Tuesday will suit us I expect ... they will travel on the day.
Pitch inspection probably called for as the ground staff must have had doubts and with more rain forecast then its probably for the best. I don't care about the teams themselves but for fans to travel hundreds of miles to arrive and find the match is off is unfair. I watched all last Friday for updates from Chester for info on whether the match was on, I would have been seriously pissed off if I'd driven all the way there for the match to be called off about an hour before kick off

My understanding is that, if the game is postponed, the home team is liable for some/all of the away teams costs. In this case that would be quite a tidy sum....
Probably all irrelevant as the weather means it would be called off anyway and, as has been said, they can travel on the day for the rearranged game just like we had to when going there.

Although it did rain a fair bit at Chester, I was surprised on seeing the pitch that they needed an inspection at all, looked pretty much perfect.
