I really do think having Paul Fairclough is too much a conflict of interest, about time the FA did something about this, you wouldn't let Brendan Rodgers manage the England team now would you!
What get me about this most is that there are plenty of...shall we say, elder statesman league and non-league managers who would jump at the chance of this post as a way of staying in the game.
High time this was pointed out at FA Committee level if it hasn't already.
It is a pity that an international call-up for a Wings player brings not only congratulations and pride but also misgivings and sadness that it could lead, at some stage, to the loss of a player to another club - and we have experience of that. In this case, I think it will be Luton who come calling or, possibly, a return to Millwall. Much as I appreciate Jamie's desire to see players progress after improving their skills etc at the Wings, I would really hope that it would be a move to a League club rather than to one of our rivals.
As regards losing Jake for the Lincoln match, I would imagine that it could be possible that we would lose him for the game against Macclesfield as well. I really do not understand why international friendlies are arranged at the business end of the season when clubs are either fighting for a play-off place or fighting for points for safety. Surely, clubs affected should be able to postpone fixtures as clubs in the "big boys" leagues do (although probably not advisable when so many matches have been lost to waterlogged pitches)?
Also, what are the chances that Jake will end up at that Swedish club that bagged Alex and Doug? We would not even get a fee if that happened, and I think Jake has played in Finland or for a club in Scandinavia - did we not have to wait for international clearance?
Yep, did not spot the new Lincoln date - and it seems that matches are moved - but I think Jake could well miss a few matches soon in whatever event; last time I looked he was on nine bookings. And yes, he does deserve congratulations on being picked for England C - he has put in some fabulous performances this season. Incidentally, and I always wondered about this, do domestic suspensions apply to international matches and the European Championship etc competitions?
Congratulations to Jake. I hope he plays a blinder.
I doubt if his call up will make the slightest difference to what happens at the end of the season. I cannot believe that Paul Fairclough is the only person to have noticed that he is a tremendous player.
