We can get a result if we want it enough, attitude is key in these  close games, I believe we can make a play off position, Im not suggesting it will be easy but Jamie has strengthened the squad and we can compete well for a play off place.

Most of our loan players only run until April 26th latest, so if we did make the play-offs we'd have to do some serious begging or risk having no team to field.

Anyhow, lets not go overboard. Jamie has spoken before about expectations and "where this club is at" and its staying in the division. Mid-table would be an amazing achievement. Let's not raise expectations too high at this late stage and put pressure on. Let's just chill out a little and concentrate on performing well.

The main aim is to stay in this division. It would take the biggest run of freak results ever to go down now, but I'll still be happier with another six points on the board.

Once that is achieved, there is still a long way to go for a part-time squad.

Finishing ahead of Dartford would make us the second highest ranking club in Kent (take note BBC Radio Kent), then it would be good to finish above the other part time teams to be the top true non-league club in the country.

There is no doubt that there is plenty of quality in the squad but it is relatively small and a couple more injuries / suspensions would really stretch it.

As for the ground not being good enough, as long as the required improvements are done in time, Welling United would be allowed to participate in post season games.

Completely agree Mark.

However, a massive achievement has been made with largely loan players. We've used the market very, very well, but we'd all feel more comfortable with permanent signings, and people being secured for next season, players and management, given we are now 99.9% safe.

Come on Jamie. Get a pen out.

Another 4 points and we should be ok?

Firstly, we "should be ok" now, or in fact, we are ok.
Another four points and we "should be ok". 53 points and we're only "should be ok"? Madness.

Mark, we were safe, sensibly, 5 games ago, let alone now.

Oh, and STOP the random words in CAPITALS in the WRONG places to make points, its annoying, and you are not 12

Yes, we seem reasonably safe now - but we are not safe for certain and should guard against complacency.  Teams have gone down on 50 points, and teams such as Chester and Southport are on a run of reasonable results.  Many in the relegation zone have invested heavily in new players to keep their hopes alive.  So, strange as it may seem, do not bet against a run of freak results.  We still need to win games.

Don't be ridiculous. We would need to lose every remaining match to get relegated, a freak occurrence in its own right, let alone also needing a freak set of results from not one, but several, teams below us.

Yes Chester and Southport are on reasonable runs, but so are we, and there is just as much chance of them collapsing as anyone else. Thats before you factor in the teams going the other way to Chester and Southport, like Aldershot on a bad run, and Hereford who have blown up completely and have serious financial problems.

And our goal difference is at least 20 better than most of the real relegation contenders.

We are safe.

So, you agree then - we are not safe for certain (which is the point I made), otherwise you would not need to qualify your reply Kevin.  And why can't we just go on winning as many games as possible ?  Surely it is better to guard against complacency and to see where our wins take us?

We are safe. I don't buy into all this "until its mathematically impossible" rubbish. Look at the table and make a sensible judgement call. Point gap, teams below us, run of events needed to drag us into it let alone become 21st position, goal difference.

Well yes, of course we should go on winning as many games as possible. I would imagine that is the aim of every footballer in the world. Being safe and winning as many games as possible are not an either/or, we can do both.

Anyway, game time ...

Do we know if the international clearance is through from the lad signed from France?
Butcher fit?
Obo and Guthrie over the mumps?
Cornick fit?

Will be interesting to see who plays if most of the above are in the positive as the squad is strong when everyone available, I can't pick an XI, I keep changing my mind.

That's ok, seems like a fairly uneventful start to the match. I'll take uneventful if we can sneak a goal or two...

Another lesson there in the perils of not taking goalscoring chances!

How can we be losing 2-0!

It would be at least 2-4 if we'd made the most of our chances....

It could be worse, if we don't take our chances.  There is no given in this league, apart from Hyde.  I think a few people need to wake up to that fact.

A good effort today it seems, and a good performance, other than putting it in the net. Still a lot to be positive about. Play like that away from home every week and we'll be doing very well.

Play like that away from home every week and:
a) there's something wrong with the fixture list; and
b) we'd lose 2-0 every week...

Really frustrating today, easily the better team, we just couldn't take chances. Just had a feeling we were going to lose

It seems that Nuneaton is establishing early credentials as our bogey side.  I thought we were in control of the home game against them until they caught us with two sucker punches.
