A young player is in hospital (Tom Bender) and some four or five players have succumbed to this illness. Do we have to wait until somebody with a pre-existing condition, supporter or player, risks his/her life? Surely it is time for the NHS/public health authorities to step in and assess this illness before it spreads not just among more Wings players/fans but among opposing players through this silly ritual of all shaking hands before a match?
Our collective health is far more important than football. If the NHS authorities have to quarantine our club until there is no risk, so be it. And the Conference must be understanding in terms of fixtures in this instance - all clubs who play the Wings (and, potentially, their supporters) could be at risk. No doubt I shall be called alarmist, but better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, I wonder what paper gave credence to that? No matter, dishing out blame does not solve the problem. This affects our players and, potentially, our fellow supporters. And a player is in hospital.
A player is in hospital and I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery, as to all the other illness and injury victims, but the general tone of your post, and words like quarantine, are ridiculous. Talk sense or don't post. Has the world gone mad ... or just you?
Let's also ban tackling, shoulder barging, more than one player going for a header, goalkeepers touching the ball and any fans turning up to reduce the risk of contamination.

I don't know whether mumps is still a disease which has to be notified. But it is quite infective, if not highly infective, given the instances in the squad if, indeed, it is mumps. I would rather be mad than right, Kevin.
I sympathise with anyone who is ill, and obviously it's serious, but all the same, your over the top reaction is mad. Yes, I hope you aren't right, and are just mad.

Having had mumps as an adult, I can tell you it's unbelievably painful. To the extent you can't eat and can only drink water as anything else sets off your saliva glands and sends you through the roof.
It'll go down within a week or two but he'll still be contagious for about a week or so after.

If I were a moderator I'd be thinking about a polite reminder to posters not to overstep the mark on a personal level. A lot of people are quite happy to dish it out it but aren't always so keen to take it!

That's a brilliant observation on the type of organ (paper) that might have given vent to such a "discredited opinion" at the time. Dare I say it might have been an organ of a somewhat alarmist and hysterical nature!
I was hardly being aggressive and abusive ... unless we've all gone soft.
My point was merely that quarantining the club and having the public health authorities step in is heavy handed surely. Yes, mumps is serious I know, but all the same, yes, I think the suggestion of quarantine and people "stepping in" is mad.
