So Sutton made £2,500 from donations. I can't believe that we would get much more from the gate for the Southport game so this has got to be worth trying.

If publicised correctly it could work, see us get a good win, and get people interested in Welling over the summer to benefit next season.
If not publicised correctly it won't work.
We could try it for the last home game, if we can get enough publicity out there, although it might be worth trialling the new ticket prices/offers in pre-season.
Especially early-entry discounts (eg. £10 if you get in before 1:30PM) as this will help clear the ridiculous queues at games like the Charlton friendly, and help us get a full-house. The £5 discount should then be made up after a couple of hours at the bar....
Would also be worth seeing if we can get the E&B&Q bar open for the pre-season friendlies.

Sutton arranged for volunteers to distribute over 20.000 leaflets around the town and at local railway stations to publicise the event. Would Welling be able to match this? There is also the question of who would bear the cost of printing the leaflets. Perhaps one of our sponsors would be interested in doing this if the leaflet also contained a small advert for them.
I couldnt even raise more than 3 volunteers to distribute the latest flyers of which there were a few hundred for local businesses , 20,000 dont make me laugh !!!!!
So £2500 in revenue came in, this is substantially lower than we bring in on a crowd of 500, if you want to do this then why don't you sponsor it, I actually hate this concept as it devalues the club, the footballing product, sorry no thanks!
I think the Salisbury idea is better - I was surprised by the size of their crowd and read about their Challenge 2000. If they can do it we should be able to.
No idea if the link will work - basically they had a drive to get more than 2000 in yesterday. Complimentary tickets for kids, service personnel for a £1 etc. If they can do it we ought to be able to
Before the idea gets put to the sword, before the view is dismissed, before the concept of pay what you want gets kicked into touch, is it not worth at least spending some time at least thinking about it? Well, I have!
Ok, it seems like we may not get enough volunteers, and will sponsoring work? It seems unlikely.
If it's publicised correctly, it could work. If we were to hire Saatchi & Saatchi as our publicist (as Max Clifford is a little busy at present), for a nominal fee of £50,000 I'm sure they would be happy to assist. They may suggest to have a 30 second advert played during Friday's Coronation Street (£300,000). And for just £75,000 we could have a quarter page advertisement in the Thursday's Sun. With a week of adverts on Talk Sport leading upto the match (£40,000), I'm confident that we could just break through the four figure mark. Soccer AM want in excess of £1m which may be a little over our budget. Buy spending big, it will not devalue the club or the footballing product, and if it's not publicised correctly it will not work.
I'll give Barry a shout and see if he can find his cheque book.
In all honesty, it's difficult when every penny counts. Taking a chance, although seems a possibility, may not be. However, keeping tabs on what other clubs do is worthwhile and maybe adapt it to suit, but again, easier said than done.

The link works fine!
This seems a good idea however nearly all the Welling players have day jobs so would they be able to go around local schools doing Q&A sessions? Salisbury are fortunate to be in an area where there is no local competition. It's hard to think of another football club in Wiltshire, so I'm not sure that this would be as successful for Welling however anything is worth trying. It's not right that Jamie's team has had three or four excellent seasons yet the crowds have not increased.
Not sure I'm in favour of pay what you want though, and I can see Paul's frustration that so many people say 'we should do this' yet don't want to get involved themselves.

The early admission at a cheaper rate does, on the face of it, seem look a good idea...but the downside is it takes away from the appeal of season tickets - I've just forked out £230 and committed to going to every/most games to make it worth my while. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be a bit peeved if I could make the same saving just by turning up a bit early each week.
Why not have an half way house approach - if you have a community theme based day
ie for children invite local scouts , charter standard clubs etc under 12's are free and the coaches - scout masters etc. pay what they want.
For Adults you can have Arm Forces days, 999 day or NHS Staff (all pay what you want on production of an ID.
With a bit of thought the options are endless. This way you are not losing anything and encouraging new people to PVR.
As I have said before -In my view money needs to be made available to promote the deals and ideally place adverts in the new shopper and Bexley times to gain maximum effect.

Yeah, I was thinking that. Obviously IF we did do an early entry deal at say £10 if you come in early, season tickets might lose out as they work out at roughly a tenner a game (if you did the early bird deal). Albeit you don't have to come in before 1:30. Perhaps we could have something whereby if you flash your season ticket at the turnstile before 1:30 you could get a ticket/token which you could exchange for a freebie like a programme or a pint (just as an example).
Besides season ticket holders get free entry at the friendly games so we could still do the early-entry offer at friendlies without the season ticket holders losing out.
If it works in pre-season we could then use early-entry offers at selective games where we're expecting bigger crowds just to get everyone in before kick-off.
On another note, are the kids that get free entry counted towards the attendance figures? Before you say WDYPTC, it'a 11:30PM... Only just got home from work.
