I think we also have to take into account that our players had a long journey to Torquay today and will travel back tonight. No doubt clubs like Torquay will stay overnight for their longer-distance matches.
a comedy of errors in defence for that goal.
I've seen us play worse and get a point, but there's a real naivety about our play at the moment.
Their third goal was scored by Tobi Ajala.
Oh dear. Perhaps it is too much to expect so many new youngsters to settle quickly. Our advantage last season was that most of the team had played together for quite a while. Typical that Ajala should score. Can't help but think that we have lost a lot of maturity, experience and physical strength in our team. It could be a very difficult season.
I said on thread after Telford game its gonna be a long season we really needed a good start or its gonna be a season of pain and checking other teams results to avoid being in relegation spots I fear :(

Some of these comments are a bit unfair. Yes we lost 3-0. Our part time players had to make a 500 mile round trip on a Tuesday night to a full time team who have come down from the league below.
Yes there were mistakes made, but these are young players and I would guess our budget is the lowest in the league. We were not helped by a clueless set of officials, however Torquay took there goals well and played some good football. 2nd half we played well in spells and there's real signs of the makings of a good team that will need time to settle.
I think some people need to be realistic about our resources, the fact we are part time and some of the teams and there resources that we are facing. It may be a struggle this season but everyone needs to get behind the team.
In Jamie we trust.

Indeed m8 well said I said the same thing to the noob commentator on twitter and also called him a bell end he liked it and retweeted and favourite it lol.....
I weren`t expecting a win tonight, a draw at best. Nice neutral commentary by BBC Devon (not). What can you expect from these part time broadcasters. If they were any good they would be on 5 live. They have probably got part time jobs as Brickies and Plumbers too. Sounded like Torquay had the first half with the second half being even. Also sounded like we could and should of scored a couple with better finishing and gifted them the third goal. Still that`s one of the long trips out of the way. Heads up lads. Keep the faith.
I`ve just read a few comments on The Torquay forum and fair play to them they were quite positive on how we played. Nice to see proper football fans give credit to our players and not patronise them like those BBC Devon ****s. Seems like 3-0 flattered them a bit. Good luck to them anyway I hope they have a decent season.
Were`nt sure if you were there tonight Spills. Radio wings said the next commentary would be at Halifax. Ill be listening to Radio Wings on Saturday for sure.
Some things for hope in the second half, much improved on the first. If this was due, in part, to Torquay easing off a bit, difficult to tell.
On that 90 minutes, the overriding impression is that the defence cannot afford to give away ANY freebies if we are likely to take 10 chances to score once. To that end the third goal was stupid and Jake didn't need to make the challenge for the penalty. If you don't give the man with the whistle an opportunity to make a decision, he can't get it wrong.

But the two handballs in the box by Torquay were penalties or rather should have been penalties. Yet again we suffered from poor refereeing,
We struggled in the first half and Daisy must have had a few choice words at halftime because we were a totally different side. Had the blatant handball been given and a penalty scored the result may have been different. Real sloppy defending for Torquays 3rd. Theses mistakes need to be sorted. I can see signs of a team coming together and although I can't see us getting anything at Halifax I wouldn't write us off yet.
In Daisy we must Trust

Wanted to say what a great game it was last night and how much closer it was than the 3-0 final scoreline.
First half we (at times) dominated but it is widely agreed (even by our most blinkered fans!) that it was not a penalty.
Second half your players were a credit to your club and you were the better team over this period. There was a stonewaller of a penalty shout turned down and we had many lucky escapes (which had one of gone in then who knows). If you had to pick the part-time team in this period then it is likely most would have gone for us.
Yes you need a striker to convert more of the chances created but there are many many clubs throughout the league and non-league who are in the same position. It is the reason we got relegated last year and is never an easy fix - especially with the limited budget you guys are likely to be able to provide at this stage of your clubs growth.
No billy big balls - we are a friendly small club and we give credit where it is due. Please ignore the commentary of Radio Devon and Guy Branston because it provides an uneasy feeling to be associated with such ignorant perceptions. It might be the case that we will be around this division for many years to come and I hope you guys are part of this journey with us.
Looking forward to coming to your place for the return fixture and all the best for the season. Keep playing like you did second half then you will be far off relegation candidates this season.

It wasn't Jake and it wasn't a penalty!
It most definitely was a penalty, it says so in the reports (yours included) and on every result sheet you'll find. Whether it was a indeed a foul that led to it or who committed it can be debated/reviewed.
Still doesn't change the fact that the lowest risk of conceding said penalty is not to give the opportunity for the referee it make a decision.

If you stand off, they will cross and have an opportunity to score every time. If 'challenges' like that result in penalties being awarded, then it makes the fact that shirt pulling is ignored at every corner (and that includes our defenders) all the more astonishing.
Torquay supporters felt it was a poor decision. the player 'fouled' was heading towards the corner to take a corner, no Torquay player appealed fot a penalty, the Torquay press box (Guy Branson excepted) thought it was harsh.
Ignore Branston - he is an idiot and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a microphone. Unusual for us but we certainly benefited from being the "big club" as far as the referee was concerned.
As your players are part time you should be proud of their performance - played some neat football going forward. Unfortunately your weakness was at the back (a bit like us really!)
Think you will suprise a few teams this season.

Nice to see an honest approach. Good luck for the rest of the season

It should not have been awarded!
If you stand off you should be able to block the cross because you are close enough to have made the tackle.
Regardless of it should not have been awarded, it was. We can influence our own team, we can't influence refereeing standards.
I look forward to your next indignant report if the same circumstance happens again. What I won't look forward to is any dropped points as a result and that indignation won't reclaim them.
