I am saying that the 3 days a week training doesn't work because we can't afford the players that are any good to commit to that schedule, ie the players that have been brought in

That really was pathetic only bright sparks was Harry beautyman + Jake gallagher Harry looked like the only one with ambition all game and his goal might of been offside but took it well I hope he is not the next one that some team takes of us for peanuts. We really do lack ideas at times to much hoofball 1st half and I have not seen the fans so angry or restless as I witnessed 1st half.... this season is just going to be painful we dont look like scoring and look like conceding every time someone attacks us I hope Mr Day sorts this lot out as at the moment this is far from good enough COYW

For me the most worrying thing about today was not the performance of the team but the attendance of 634. I would estimate around 150 from Woking leaving under 500 Welling fans on a Saturday with reasonable weather and Charlton playing in Yorkshire. You may say "Ah but it's a Bank Holiday weekend and everyone is away". Undoubtedly some are but when you see that Dulwich Hamlet had a gate of 762 for their Ryman Premier game it seems to shoot that down as the main reason for the poor attendance.
It is all very well saying Jamie has to sort it out but the standard of players available is dictated by the budget and that is largely set in accordance with income from gate money. The need for Target 1000 to succeed becomes ever greater if Welling are to remain a Conference Premier club for more than a further season or two.
Very lucky today that Woking are not very good.....Daisy needs to do something before we get cut adrift......2 or 3 ( or more) are frankly not good enough!!
Have asked a mate of mine, who has given up his cafc season ticket and now goes to Dulwich. He says its become enjoyable again, lots of supporters of other clubs, now wearing pink and blue, only a tenner to get in, and can have a beer whilst watching the football.
They have a band, its the location in South london and a laugh.
To quote him Dulwich have become the hipster football fans club of choice.
The problem is that Welling are punching well above the natural weight, and you won't get the floating fan at £15 a pop, and the fact that its proper football, segregation, stewards etc etc
Today showed us what we can expect when trying to replace a host of experienced players on, probably, the lowest budget in the Conference. We have some very talented players, but most of them are youngsters still learning the game - hence inconsistency and lack of physical presence against older, heavier, players. Jamie has a big challenge to keep us in this league and he will give it more than his best shot. The attendance today, however, does not offer him any encouragement - and don't forget that paying spectators are the club's main income stream now that the bars and food outlets are franchised for set sums.
It is catch 22 - lose or draw, play badly, and our crowds go down and our manager and club have to tread water rather than progress on and off the pitch.
Quite a disappointing first half and I feared had Woking scored early we may have been rolled over but the team showed good character. Overall a good point.
Quite a disappointing first half indeed......we only went at half time with a 1 - 0 lead.
It seem obvious to me that there are many mis-guided people out there. As someone who has a fantastic footballing brain and a vastly superior knowledge of the game I feel that some education is required.
1. Our plan to let Woking attack us worked well, they tired themselves out enabling us to score.
2. The Card's goal came from a poor decision by the referee.
3. After the match away to Halifax we were 2nd from bottom. Has anyone noticed that we went up two places?
4. Of the eight teams in the bottom half, Welling were the only one to increase their position.
5. We have double the amount of points than the team below us.
6. And we are only 7 points off the play-off places.
Do I really need to go on?
All that, and let's not forget that we've only lost twice since the start of the season which was ages ago.
I knew after not being able to beat 9 players for nearly half the match on the opening day this was going to be a long season but yesterday in the 1st half I can remember at least 10 times we just hoofed the ball upfront and we didnt have a player within 20 yards of the ball we made a average side in woking look like barcelona the scary thing to me as a fan is I just dont know where the goals are going to come from and I dont know how we are going to keep clean sheets when we defend at times like 4 guys just rolled out of the pub and this is spreading panic to our gk he should of come and got about 3 balls yesterday but didnt and we ended up in panic every time we dont help ourselves at times I mean Bush at lb really? Anyways COYW and lets hope tommorow we show a bit more fight and passion than our last 2 away games
As a Dulwich Hamlet fan but now long time local Welling/Bexleyheath resident I think you've summed up the reasons for low attendances quite well by suggesting the walk up price is too high for the floating fan. I'm not so sure about Ryman Premier not being real football as we have stewards just no segregation and of course drinking laws are more relaxed. However, I know that Mr Commercial has many ideas that would work if allowed to be implemented. DHFC gates have gone from average around 200 to around 700 in 5 years firstly via relative success on the pitch & the quality of the football on offer (but that's no different to what Jamie Day has done) but also due to the increase in the number of people who qualify as concessions and holding that price low whilst full admission price has risen. Targeting offers at specific games and a specific target audience I.e. individual schools, community groups, clients of sponsors. We also learned that the regulation Kids 4 Free doesn't work as the adult still has to find, in your case, £15 to attend so we always give out family tickets and of course we are giving nothing away because they weren't coming so every penny they spend is a bonus. And we have also been very fortunate to have had support on so many local forums and via social media which has created a buzz locally. Our gate yesterday included very few from Lewes & around 100 people from a ticket offer that went out to people who showed an interest at local summer events. Already some of those have said they'll be back and I suspect many spent money even if it was only a programme or raffle ticket as the 50/50 had its highest prize this season. We are having a Pay What You Want admission on non league day, an offer for existing season ticket holders, a students day, a promotion with a local iconic pub,mm and others are also being planned and these will be aimed at those games which we know will get lower gates. I assure you that the only way to increase attendances is to give people a taste of the experience. Some will enjoy it and come back especially as there are many disillusioned fans of higher clubs looking for somewhere they feel they belong.
Chris Bush is not a full back. We were told that he and Fyfield were brought in as centre halves and yet, in the fourth game of the season. he is playing left back?! Woking cottoned on to this pretty quickly and were getting into good positions time after time down that flank in the first half hour. It is not as if we didn't have a capable full back on the bench as Barney proved (again) in the second half. What he might lack in height is more than compensated by his positioning and reading of the game.
We need to find a way of getting more out of our captain. I am not sure what position he is supposed to be playing and I am not sure he is either?! Besides the fact that he likes a tackle he can play as was proved by the pass for the goal and nearly setting up another in the second half. He is one of our best assets and we need to get more out of him. I thought the midfield battled hard and hats off to Sam Corne and Harry Beautyman for their efforts. When we add Joe Healy to the mix (and when the manager finally decides to play the odd game) we have a more than capable midfield at this level.
Up front is a problem. There are mitigating circumstances with KSA playing his first competitive game of the season and that the other lads were brought in just before the season started and it is difficult to get everything working smoothly straight away. However they need to get involved a lot more and at least occupy the defenders - I could have played centre back for Woking on Saturday and had time for a cup of tea and read of the paper. If you are going to beseech the bench and your teammates regarding the service you are getting at least have the decency to put some effort in and make a bad ball into a good ball....
From the accounts I have read (and heard) it was a much improved performance at Eastleigh and we seem to have created a few chances. I have no doubt that Daisy will bet as much as possible out of the players and we all need to keep the faith.
