Well done to the club for linking up with Charlton and tapping into their commercial knowledge. And Well done for Charlton on helping out their neighbours. I think we have a new Keith Mills at the club from looking at the photo on the Official Site. Lets hope thw WSU or whatever its called this week still packs a punch and can raise funds.

Will be interesting to see what the gate is for the Histon match. Also Interesting that out of 400 plus only 250 paid for the Bognor game.

Well done Graham, Barrie, Keith Peacock, Peter Varney and Rick Everrit  and Wendy Perfect, on this initiative. Excellent work by All concerned.

full details on the Official site

From the off. site...........

Charlton season-ticket holders will be able to gain admission to the Welling v Histon fixture on February 28th (7.45pm) for the reduced prices of £5 adults and £1 juniors on production of their season-ticket books. The offer will be extensively promoted at the Addicks’ Premiership game against Aston Villa three days earlier.

Now will someone please put me right if i've got this wrong. You can gain entry for a fiver if youre a Charlton season ticket holder but someone like me, a welling supporter who has only missed 1 game at PVR this season still has to pay the full whack and an extra quid if i want to sit, correct????

My choice i know not to buy a season ticket but thats not the issue, why not extend the offer to supporters of THIS CLUB???? These Addicks fans aint gonna shift alliances just because we offer em half price entry are they??? What about offering it to local people and kids who aint attached to a dollarship club, arent they more likely to return??? I would have offered 1/2 price entry to anyone coming with a Welling season ticket holder, makes more sense to me and they're more likely to return.

IM ALL FOR CLOSER RELATIONS BUT HOW ABOUT JUST ONCE THE CLUB LOOK AFTER THEIR OWN SUPPORTERS FOR ONCE????

Clarkey I agree that us Welling fans are often let down by the club ,hence the recent bromley match, but I feel that on this occasion you are misssing the point.

There are thousands of Charlton supporters in the Welling area, many  of whom follow our results and prehaps watch the odd game. However I believe that the club havent even scratched the surface of the potential of getting these addicks fans to follow us as there second club.

Just think, Charlton get 25,000 for a home match . When Charlton are away (or not playing) ,and we are at home, then maybe 2,000 of there supporters are watching there side away. That leaves 23,000 football fans without a game to see. Now lets just say that around 10% of those fans live in the Welling area. Thats 2,300 football fans that OUR club are missing out on. Even if they all got in for FREE the club would still make a fortune on merchandise, food, programmes and bar takings as they go to the bar to see how CAFC are getting on. Having a larger attendence would also boost the atmostphere at the ground which I believe has been hugley lacking since we dropped out of the conference.

In short,Clarkey, as season tickets holders.... as supporters, we all gain by more supporters going  through the turnstyles because it means more money for OUR club. Which should mean ,in the long term BETTER players and BETTER results! Well done to all parties concerned on both clubs for this promotion.

Clarkey,

I cant believe what you are saying, if you come to nearly everygame near enough then why on earth would you not but a season ticket.

As for moaning about having closer links with Charlton Supporters, that is a joke as well better to have an extra fiver than nothing at all and how do you expect Welling to get them through the gate if we dont offer them special deals!!

I too would like to congratulate all those involved in the negotiations which have culminated in the closer links between Charlton and Welling United which were announced yesterday.  Lets hope that the relationship proves beneficial to both sides and continues to blossom.

I have apparently missed some news in that I wasn’t aware that we had a new Community Officer.  Anyone know who this is?  Jamie Day by any chance?

From JGFC’s post

Interesting that out of 400 plus only 250 paid for the Bognor game.”

Don’t know the answer to the 150+ difference but it may be that the 250 who paid means paid on the turnstile to which you have to add the season ticket holders, comps etc.

Admirably answered by Chris and Row E WUFC.

“I would have offered 1/2 price entry to anyone coming with a Welling season ticket holder”

Seems like a good idea for a one off promotion to me.  Why not make this suggestion to either Graham or Barrie?

There is no way of identifying regular Welling supporters beyond those who have season tickets and in December Welling rewarded them by giving them the opportunity to renew for next season at the price they actually paid this year.  I don’t know what the take up was but I know I got mine for the early purchase price I paid last season, thereby saving last years increase and any increase there may be this year.

They also offered pro rata season tickets for the remainder of the season.

Great. Wings employ another former newsagent on the basis he knows the media

Look, it's a fair enough deal I suppose. Charlton fans are just that; not fans of us. We get a big crowd in on the basis of that, it will not effect Charlton, but the knock on effect is that when they go tits up/get relegated or the Premiership gets any worse, we will get the advantage of those who choose not to renew.

Also, the general knock on effect should be that other people come becasue their CAFC mate says it's much cheaper.

Be realistic. All we need to cement this unholy alliance is clean pipes in the bar and a half decent pint to go with it.

Pity they didn't make the offer the other way as well.

I might have gone to a Charlton game if it were half price.

Mind you, they always lose when I go.

The reason "Row E" as you ask is that in my job i could be called away at any time, it just so happens that this season i've been lucky and havent been called on much and that is why i havent bought a season ticket.

And as moaning about closer links with Charlton supporters....err i dont think i did. How would i expect welling to get them through the gate as you put it. Well as you ask i'll tell you, welling may indeed get an extra 20 or 30 Charlton supporters through the gate next tuesday although i must say i doubt it due to the fact that the champions League is on and this will also put off a few "floaters" who normally attend PVR, my point being on a night when the CL is on why just extend this offer to charlton season ticket holders???? why not Charlton, Millwall, West Ham or indeed ANYONE who'd rather watch real football instead of the prima donnas in the CL?????. Would it not be more beneficial to the future of WUFC to try and get local people, kids who are more likely to attend PVR on a regular basis than a handfull of Addicks who would probably rather sit in and watch footie on the box????

My view is this. The club has to try schemes like this. Nothing bad can come of it. They should be thinking of ways to increase the gates all the time. Get the local schools involved. Send a few flyers out. Advertise in the local rags etc.Let people know that a good game of footie can be seen at PVR.

If you could be called away at anytime I completely understand your predicament, but if you are in that sort of situation, then surely a £150 season ticket is affordable.

With regards to the 20 – 30 floater supporters on a Tuesday, I am sure that the real football supporter that Welling United are trying to encourage to attend will surely not be perturbed from missing a “nothing” match in the Champions League.

But let's not to make this personal, let’s hope we get a result on Saturday and feel free to give me a wave! I will be in Row E, seat 30.
