I reckon our keeper's punch for the second goal conceded was down to so called 'professional' coaching i.e. punch at all costs! Was a disasterous error and have to say his overall performances thus far have me thinking of JT in the sense that perhaps he should be playing.
Errors to me aren't bad luck as such and need to be largely eliminated in order to climb the table.
While Jon Henly has made a couple of howlers in the last two games, he will be his own unrelenting critic. He is a good keeper still learning, which is why he is at the Wings. Barry Ashby recognised that Jon would be would be his own worst critic when asked by the BT interviewer whether he had had words with Jon. All players - especially at this level - are prone to mistakes but, obviously, when a keeper makes a mistake it is nearly always critical. Don't forget that Jon also made some tremendous saves against Dartford and has kept a couple of clean sheets. If his confidence is shot, he will not recover it without playing. On the other hand, if he has another poor one it could further undermine his confidence and cost us points. Thankfully, it is the manager's call!
Would help if the defence didn't pass back to him to his wrong foot near the by line. You then have a choice of hook it in to touch or let it run across you and chance you do a 'Robinson'. Not a choice to improve your confidence.
I was full of trepidation, justly as it turned out, from the moment he advanced to punch. Given he took a whack near the end by the corner flag and also levelled Jamal and the Kiddie player, I'd have to agree it is a technical flaw rather than worried about being clattered.
Part of loaning people is for them to get experience... and also they get to make their **** ups on someone else's watch. Hopefully he learns fast because we aren't good enough to give people a goal a game start!
The Dartford game showed that the keeper had very limited idea on how to deal with the high ball. Butcher was so much better. Pity we cannot keep him involved?
