The Welling job is a great chance for a player from the very top to start a Management Career, for them a low wage should not be an issue over a chance to gain experience and put their name on the map as Jamie has done. There are one or two people around the club such as Lee Clarke or Faz who could provide the non league nous to such an individual as an assistant. Nigel Clough did very well at Burton and so did a certain Mr O'Neil at Wycombe.
Lee Clarke is not around the club though is he. Clough and O'Neill were 15 and 25 years ago respectively, two examples out of perhaps 1000 managers in those 25 years. I don't think its that relevant.
Fair point about Lee Clarke but he is a known person at Welling, might make a good nr.2 to someone who lacks non league experience.
My other point is relevant and I picked a couple of examples to illustrate my point.
No hostility intended but a job in Football at this level and above is very hard to get and you may be surprised as to the high profile of some of the likely applicants.

Agreed...but do we want the likes of Steve Lomas applying!!! Salary will be an issue, so perhaps a candidate who combines the role with some other earner?
Steve Lomas has already had 2 jobs with mixed success. We need someone who has done the badges, is looking for their first job,is a known name and can afford to live with a small wage. Anyone who deems the wage too small or budget too small is not someone who need apply, jobs at this level in the London Area are hard to come by so should be plenty of interest.

Don't think it will be a hard job to fill, so many managers applying for football league jobs, some will drop into our league to re-build their career or to start their career. Do think we have been too nice yet again, but very tough position to be in. Hope the compensation is worthwhile!
At the meet the manager night I asked Jamie who he felt could go into management from his squad and his reply was Lee Clarke, for me Lee would be a good shout as long as a good coach as his no 2 was appointed to coach the team. But as other people have stated their should be no shortage of applicants for the role and we have to now leave it up to the board to decide on Jamie's successor.
A sad day for the club but all three deserve best wishes because no one could have predicted what they would do when they arrived.
Have been lucky enough to do over 100 programme notes with Jamie and have always enjoyed our football chats. A genuinely nice bloke and a shrewd manager and coach whose player knowledge is superb.
Sadly all good things come to an end and we need to find someone who can take on what has been left and continue to develop the club, particularly with regard to bringing people through which has started to bear fruit.
I am sure plenty will throw there hats in to the ring and hopefully we can find another gem.
It will be Jamie Day`s ability to get the absolute best out of players that we will miss the most I feel. Andy Pugh played his best football under Jamie. As did Acheampong, Martin, Pires, Dyer, Lafayette. He turned Faz into one of the best right backs in the Conference. Joe Healy was going nowhere as a centre forward. Jamie turned him into a midfielder who most clubs in the conference would like to have. Lee Clarke`s career looked to be drifting untill Jamie bucked him up. Franks is back in the league now. He chose Welling and Jamie to give him the boost required to get him back there. Eddie Howe at Bournemouth trusts Jamie to help develope his youngsters. We`ve had some gem loans from them. IMO that ability is gonna take some replacing. We got lucky when Jamie took the managers job. Will we be as lucky again?
I always new this day was around the corner but hoped it wouldn't be mid season. Sadly I can't see anything positive out of this for the wings which is a testament to Jamie's managerial skills. We have also lost a much needed player. I honestly can't see our season going anywhere but downhill. Good luck though to Jamie and co but not until after Saturday!
Says on official site that the club did all they could to keep him but that his contract expires in the summer. Thought he had signed a two year deal last summer?
