There was a period during the half when Dover did threaten, but it's been fairly even in terms of attacks and chances. We've had a few free kicks in decent positions but haven't made the most of them.
That goal was a free header from a corner. Not sure what sort of marking was meant to be in place there, but we seemed to be more concerned about protecting our keeper than looking for Dover runners.
A real bad day at the office today. Fair play to Dover. Big cup game coming up and still won all the points. Their style of play kills us. They did a proper job on us. Onwards and upwards. Hopefully
COYMW.
Quite simply beaten by the better team I do hate Corne playing as a rb really thinks he needs to play cm where he puts in many good performances. Hope we can get a few in soon and get our own gk for starters :). Wish we would stop playing 1 upfront Penny with someone would be gr8 he needs help up there, so negative the 4-5-1 anyways its not these games that will define our season. COYW

While Dover were much the better side, we didn't help our cause with wasted set pieces from decent positions. We unfortunately allowed Charlie to become too isolated with a lack of support from midfield. Need to take the few positives (E.g. no injuries/ red cards) and focus on a new era for the club starting with this transfer window and the opportunity for Jody and Gang to put much needed work in on the training ground. Obviously Dave. I think a blind man knows Corne is a CM not a RB but need must short term given small squad and Barney's injury.
Errr...?I think it is exactly these games that define the season!!
Beg to disagree on this occasion.
4 games against the form team of the division, an ex league side and a team spending a few bob when we have 13/14 fit players and a new manager who probably has not yet had a proper training session with the team. If that team are not running on fumes on autopilot at the moment I doubt you'll ever see one.
Give them a two week break to get rested, the manager to implement some of his thoughts and hopefully acquire some players and then start judging.
We are fortunate we got points on the board before Christmas and the bottom four almost seem to be contriving to get the results that suit us most. Also that we have not given points to any direct competitors (which Dover no longer are given the cash injection they will get from the FA Cup) in what is a bit of a desperate period on the playing side of the club.
Playing Penny upfront on his own was a mistake. The Dover back four and some of their midfielders are huge, lumping it long at times was always going nowhere. A 442 or 4311 might have been more affective with someone trying to knock down or thread balls for Penny to pick up. Dover weren't technically impressive but full of confidence and play to their strengths. Something we should hopefully do with some more options in January.
Agree with many comments and it was a bit depressing today, but we had no recognized right back so Corney had to fill in. We desperately need some support for Charlie who ran his socks off all afternoon but I am sure the manager is exploring that one.
Disappointed with Basselle today. Body language says it all and at one point lost the ball and just stopped. He has the ability but needs to find the attitude because he is a decent player when he does.
Need to get through Sunday. re-group, get some training sessions in and go again from the 17th. We are still ok at the moment. Just need a little bit of help numbers wise and to regain some confidence.
We were good enough against Torquay and need to keep believing.

Spot on Stafford.
No need to press any panic buttons. I doubt we will get anything at FGR but you never know. Then we have a two week period for the new manager to get his feet under the table properly, add to the squad, get some training sessions under his belt and then we can form a more considered opinion. After Sunday it effectively becomes a 16 game season for us and we need to support the team and management for that period.

...and that was one of the reasons we lost, that keeper is no good in the air at all and Dover had done their scouting and knew it! Penny is small...no point in lumping up high balls to him. Thought Gallagher was man of the match. It seems that the need to retain National Australia Bank sponsorship may have prevented another of our quality players going to Ebbsfleet...for a reputed £900 a week?
