Intrigued to see what others think. New manager, a relegation battle, live on TV, hopefully a big attendance. Can't wait, and even if we don't get the result we want I'll be massively encouraged if we just see a collective fighting spirit from all the players, staff and fans. COYW
Biggest since the play off final at Dartford imo. Even though there were big matches towards the end of the promotion season, we always had a handy lead at the top of the table.
We're now 4 points from safety despite being 10 points clear when Brown took over (cheers mate). I think we really have to get at least a point today
Another bland home performance against poor opposition, and one man short again through the Captain's pointless indiscipline.
At least Jody got one point....
Well done Jody's Dad/Brother/Relation, I bet you had that comment typed up before the final whistle even blew. Bitterness and delusion is obviously a family trait.
He got one point in 9 games, against sides in the bottom half of the division. He can surround himself with his Twitter chums all he likes, likening him to Brian Clough etc The next few years will determine how well this "educated football man" does, but I won't hold my breath and wait for him to appear in the upper echelons of the game. He can wear his "Student of The Game" mortarboard all he likes, but a complete lack of ability as a man manager will be his undoing, as will his inability to bite his tongue both on and offline.

If you thought that was bland, then you clearly weren't at Nuneaton where Jody's inspirational man management produced one of the most pathetic performances I've ever seen. Compared to that, today was positively heart-stopping.
I didn't think the players could be faulted for effort today though until the last few minutes we seemed to drop back a little too deep once down to ten men. Once we pressed forward near the end we had chances.
It's a mystery why our most experienced players keep having these moments of madness to leave us with ten. Joe faces a lengthy ban now. Whoever the manager is this trait still continues. Faz now needs to pull out every rabbit from the hat in the next three away games. I think we need seven points from them to have a fighting chance. Can't see masses going to Gateshead but let's have a good number at Lincoln on Saturday.

What a wanker to take such a cheap shot as to assume that I am in some way related the our recently-departed Manager to make an easy point....
Were you satisfied with what you saw today, if you actually went to the game sober? I wasn't; I thought it was piss poor.
Loth as I am to have to say it, I would bet a pound to a pinch of **** that we will be relegated.

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to see your surname is Brown and that your first post here is leaping to his defence.
It is an easy argument, isn't it? Because it's factually accurate. 1 point out of a possible 27 is pathetic and to cap it off by alienating the fans and using up any currency you have left with them and the board, is embarrassing.
I hope you continue to have Sundays free as you'll be needing them to watch whoever Jody manages next.

So how Browns/ Smiths/ Joneses are there in the phone book? I'm merely pointing out what a sad little cheap shot you have chosen to take in lieu of any inclination or ability to construct a reasoned argument.
Were you happy with what you saw today? Second coming of the Holy Ghost? Because I wasn't.

Saying "At least Jody got a point" after one game, as oppose to his 9, is the furthest you can possibly get from a reasoned argument. Come back in 8 games time and then maybe you'll have a point.
Survival is looking extremely difficult, but anyone with a brain stem should recognise it looked impossible under Jody's 'leadership'. Faz has already reinstated young players like Sam Corne who made a mockery of his exile under Brown by being one of our best performers today.
Did not think we were that bad but sadly football is a confidence game and I feel it is something we are really lacking, but we move on to the next game and try and get a result
From the vantage point of my sick bed I thought we played ok but lacked killer instinct. The commentators kept referring to our defence playing so deeply, but when Jody Brown's Welling kept being caught with counter attacks it was probably a prudent move.
As for our disciple, it's terrible and seemingly endemic: Loui said to the pitch side reporter live on air "I spoke to the team about our f*cking discipline".
Oh dear!

Apart from Joe's moment of madness and the final score-line, it was much improved performance compared to Nuneaton. If the lads keep improving, and the teams in the next few fixtures play us with complacency, then who knows.
It's not over till the fat lady sings.

Very disappointing that we didn't even get 1 point against a pretty average side. The sending off came just as we were beginning to look threatening. I thought Vose was really poor today, too many sideways runs and no end product. Sam Corne put in a great shift.

Was you watching the same game as everyone else?! I thought Vose was our MOTM.
Preformances, performances. The bottom line is we don't score goals. I'd say we'd play our 10 remaining games and score maybe 8 goals. I'm afraid to say and deeply sad to say we're f@?ked.
Odd isnt it...differet views....I thought Young was terrible...Vose was MOM 1st half and Harris had a decent 2nd half....but bloody hell another red card from the Jake school tackles....when will we learn.....probably didnt fancy midweek in Gateshead
Cant see where any points are coming from....record 8 losses on the bounce and we have used 40 players...Neil Smith and Parker days again
Clive Brown, I can see why people would jump to the conclusion they did.
The performance was a million times better than Nuneaton yes, but that was because Nuneaton was a million times worse than anything before it. Either way, it was better, but still not enough. Improved performances are needed and encouraged, but performances alone don't get points, results do.
We hardly look potent in front of goal, our best striker remains out on loan, and although Williams up top works hard and holds it up I'm not convinced he is a real striker that will bang us in the goals we need. Also, to play Rod Young from the start when even the manager that signed him binned him is questionable. He worked hard and showed moments, but nothing amazing. Vose is quality on the ball, but he can't be a world beater every game and he gets doubled up on a lot, especially when we are a man light.
As for the red card, didn't exactly clean the guy out properly, but tackle like that and there is a risk you will go. Ill discipline is the thing that will cost us most this season, more so than a manager that went mad. Healy is a real gentleman, as is Faz, and as proven by his f-word live on TV, ill discipline and mistakes can happen to anyone in the heat of the moment, but 10 red cards this season is criminal, and they aren't all bad luck. Having some of our best players out regularly, with a small part-time squad with a low budget compared to most in the league, means we're playing massively against the odds too many times. The regular captain will return for Lincoln away on the 14th, a full 42 days after his last performance, 6 weeks out! we cannot afford it to happen again.
Brown's results were poor, performances were too in the main, but the major problem is a lot of those games were against sides in the lower half. We now have several games, and away, to teams in the top half, and to expect Loui to perform a miracle is, well, just that.
I remain hopeful of course, but we need to put the ball in the net more often. We were much better at the back today mind.
No lack of effort but a lack of quality too often.
Don't know how anyone could suggest Vose was our man of the match. Held on to the ball too long and too often as did Joe before his dismissal.
Poor decision to go in like that and gave a very poor referee the chance to send him off once the Altrincham players surrounded him like a mob. When will this be treated the same as the games other scourge of diving?
Defensively we looked solid enough - good to see Chambers back.
Pleased to see Ben, Charlie and Malachi at the game - let's hope they are back sooner rather than later.
One pretty significant positive. Four figure attendance: 1009
37% increase compared to the Chester home game. Was it because of ticket reductions or did just being on telly have a bigger effect on bringing in the extra fans.
Either way it will give the board food for thought when they want to decide the ticket prices for next season.

Hopefully not I'm sure I read that they had given away 1000 adult tickets for today, you certainly wouldn't want to do that every game. It was noticeable, at least when I arrived, that the passes turnstile was far busier than the pay turnstiles. Still an excellent bit or marketing by the club and those who put the time in to assist with it. Hopefully at least some of them will come back again.

Target 1000 never got off the ground for whatever reason, but some food for thought. I suggested several months back that we offer a £1,000 giveaway in raffle format for every game that attracts an attendance of over 1000. The feedback I got from most was that we would be throwing £1,000 down the drain. Well today, as encouraging as the attendance was (and I still applaud the club for reducing the price), we "threw away" several times that amount.
As far as I'm aware it would be a unique initiative. It would give "Target 1000" some substance rather than simply being "Target as many as we can" (which we all know it is/would have been). The gimmick-y side of it would attract some media coverage especially if we did a big cheque presentation on the pitch with sponsors. Do it at full time and it keeps people in the ground a bit longer to use the bar. If 999 people turn up we pay out nothing. Easy to implement, simply give everyone a raffle ticket stub as they go through the turnstyles.
It needs to be supplemented with everything else the club do/want to do - school initiatives, social media promotions, leafleting, but if Target 1000 is going to be taken seriously as a campaign it needs to have a cornerstone to it.
Bigger fish to fry now we're in a mess on the pitch, but it would still be nice to hear other suggestions for how Welling United are ever going to operate on more than a shoe-string budget. It isn't down to a lack of effort, Paul and the volunteers who drop off leaflets and run the club shop are testament to that. It's down to a lack of direction and communication. Let's change that next season please, regardless of which league we're in.
I think that was pretty much our season encapsulated in ninety minutes.
Competitive without looking great. Well in the game until a moment of madness. Some baffling substitutions. Hang on but end up conceding a soft goal. Could have had a penalty in injury time but didn't get it.
Some good individual performances and some bang average ones as well. The two young centre backs looked shaky to start with but improved as the game went on and were a big improvement on Purse. Both full backs pretty good as usual. Corne showed that he should have been in the team all along and Healy was playing well until his brain freeze.
The three in front of them need to learn when to pass the ball and when to make their runs. Vose caught in possession far too often and needs to release the ball quicker. I was amazed to see Young in the starting XI and bar one shot in the first half he offered nothing. Needs to time his runs better and try and go round people and not through them (a la KHM) Harris was the best of the attackers yesterday and looked a threat but again needs to appreciate what is going on around him. Felt sorry for Williams who become more and more isolated as the game went on and was feeding off scraps - got one decent pass all game in the first few minutes and he forced a good save.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I think we could and should have held on for a draw after going a man down. Fagan should have been straight on in midfield with one of Young or Vose sacrificed. Williams would have at least kept their back four on their toes which KSA was never likely to do. A 0-0 draw would not have been great but would have stopped the run of defeats and put us three behind Alfreton and Southport and with a better goal difference.
It looks very tough now with three hard way games in the next two weeks and another suspension. Lest we forget that Healy is on 9 yellows so after this three game ban he will be one card away from a further two game ban effectively missing half of our remaining games. Gallagher is back for Lincoln but I think has 8 yellows so a further two game ban looming there as well. Both players who should know better.
Best of luck to Faz and his team - if he can get his forward players playing more as a unit we can still be competitive and hopefully get a bit of long overdue luck along the way.
I think we need to get some perspective on the last two seasons. When we got promoted it was deemed a miracle and we were to be truthful punching well above our weight. We've had the smallest budget by a country mile. Every victory we've got in this league has been a giant killing, and to get near mid-table last year as opposed to being nailed to the bottom was quite unbelievable. I don't like saying this but IF we do go down it will not be the end of the world. It will not kill the club financially as travel expenditures will be down and there'll plenty of local derbies to look forward to. If we keep the core of the squad plus the long term injuries that will be back we'll be in with a shout of bouncing back.
However I still believe the lads have got the quality to get us out of the league. It's worth noting that one thing that attracts players to this club is that we give them the opportunity to showcase their skills and prove that they can play at this level and above. If a club comes in for them, we won't stand in their way. We've now had several players, Harry Beautyman being the most recent, making a successful step up to the league.
The players have now got ten games to push themselves to the limit and show what they can do. If not for the club, then at least for themselves and their own careers.
Meanwhile we've got to keep backing the club and the lads through thick and thin. Whatever will be will be, whether it Eastborne or Grimsby. Que sera sera.
