"My comments have cost me my job. I had the full support of the board before the Nuneaton game.
Just a few days earlier they'd sanctioned the appointment of Steve Pitt to my staff under contract, following our approach to Bishop's Stortford. I saw this as a positive sign.
But what I said after last weekend's game was probably the final straw. I was naive and it showed my inexperience. I wanted to say sorry, but after sending the club the statement, they didn't release it, which was disappointing.
What I said, I completely regret, this is my first experience of dealing with the media to this level and I answered a question under pressure which I probably should have avoided altogether.
I said 'I'm not a fan, I'm an educated football person' - that wasn't me saying I did not think the club's supporters knew nothing about the game, but I appreciated that this could be taken out of the context in which I meant it.
I do feel performances and recruitment were positive, but I'm not bitter. I understand fully that results weren't good enough but I do feel the board made it clear this was a long-term plan. It's a shame. "
"I was too quick to get started. I was keen and threw myself in, but the team for the first four games was picked by the caretaker staff.
I took the Boxing Day game at Dover and met the players on the coach. We lost 4-0 and it could have been twelve.
We had played four matches by the time I had even saw our training ground. You can't manage like that. I should have waited until New Year and found out more about the players and the club.
But I don't regret saying 'Yes'. This won't stop me progressing in the future. In fact it has only made me gain confidence. This shouldn't stop my future progress in the game, it has only added to my experience."

Does at least seem from the article he concedes that big bang change might not have been the way to go with us. Hopefully he has learnt to assess the club first next time and we have learnt to ask at interview if radical change is the plan if we didn't then.

and he has learnt not to slag off the fans as that is a guaranteed way to get you sacked

I still reckon getting 1 point out of 27, bringing in a load of old codgers past their sell by date, appearing to have absolutely no man management skills whatsoever and generally being not very good at your job is probably a better guarantee of getting the sack.
