Look at the Chelsea players on 30 mins  55 secs tonight.  In the immortal words of Mr Punch "thats the way to do it".  Compare that to our lots reaction when the caveman did Jamal at Bristol Rovers!

Happens at all levels these days sadly.

Altrincham players surrounded the ref on Sunday after Healy's tackle (which was a red card) and I thought they were going to play ring a ring a roses. Ditto Chester at PVR when Gallagher was sent off.

When you have a settled side that have played together for many years, like the nucleus of the side that got us promoted, its easier to do as you see your mate clattered and want to stick up for him. When we have a team of people that hardly know each other because of frequent personnel changes its more difficult.

It didn't do Chelsea any good in the long run though. Did it?

Since when we have done it.........hardly ever I would say. Even in the successful years under Day we never "played" the ref like other teams.

Someone mentioned the Bristol Rovers game - where were our players surrounding the ref when Fyfield was taken out???

Not nice to see but all too frequent in the game. I'm afraid to say if you can't beat 'em then join 'em.

It would be sod's law that when we start doing it one of our players will be booked/sent off.

FIFA, EUFA and the FA are all too weak. This should have been stamped out years ago. No player should be allowed to question a referee or linesman in a hostile way.

So much for 'respect'.

Did they not try something years ago similar to rugby by moving the free kick 10 yards nearer the oppositions goal that failed miserably?

It is a much different culture in rugby - for a start, it seems as though some thuggery is part of the game.  However,  rugby refs are addressed as "sir" and their word is undisputed law on the field. Thankfully, off the field spectators still have a good rant.

They did, except you couldn't turn a free kick into a penalty because of it. I suspect if you could have done that it would have got the player's attention. Also, given the physical slog sometimes of making 10 yards in rugby you don't generally want to concede 10 easily because of lip and have the rest of the forwards approaching you in a displeased fashion.

Will be interesting to see what ban Di Maria gets for 'handling the ref'. If it is anything less than Di Canio got as the basic principle is the same you can take the handbrake off the downhill slide we are already seeing...
