My assessment of today would be that we started really poorly, whether it was the occasion I don't know but we couldn't string 2 passes together. The penalty was a penalty from where I was standing but I was too far away to see whether the red card was merited. It looked like he fell on the ball but the ref undoubtedly had a better view. The equaliser galvanised us and we were far better in the second half. To play most of the game with 10 men and to have two excellent chances to win the game was a tribute to the shift put in by the whole team. Overall I thought we deserved the win against a limited Alfreton team. Superb support as well - it seemed nearer 200 than 100 but I could be talking rubbish. I'm sure we will stay up if we play like we di in the second half next week.

Certainly seemed more than 100 would have said at least 150 with the 74 on coach lots on trains plus those driving. According to statto page I found 1563 attendance today but no idea how they worked it out with no tickets issued. That's their second highest crowd this season after Grimsby. With pay what you want it must have encouraged more locals to attend but they could have lost out financially. Local family in front of me at turnstile paid £10 for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Good point. Same as me, I got up at 08:00, I've never been up so early, but it was well worth it.

I have to say that yesterday seemed destined to be a microcosm of out season after about 17 minutes. That it wasn't is a testimony to the 10 left on the pitch. There may be a selection of loanees and people who could rightly have felt seriously pissed off at certain stages of the season but the commitment and nous to at least rescue a result which keeps things in our hands was impressive. You have my respect.

However we haven't really achieved yet. If you had offered any of us this position a month ago we would have taken it. However, we must prepare correctly, take Southport as seriously as if it were a head to head shoot out and play with the same level of intelligence surrounding the whole situation. Do that and I strongly suspect what happens in Bristol to turn into an irrelevance.

I'd take surviving if Alfreton and Welling both lost or drew, however go out and win it and there can be no argument over whether we deserve it or not. Then you will always have our thanks as well as our respect.

Well done to every player, management team member and supporter for a great performance in the face of adversity once again. One more game like that and we'll be celebrating next week.

Incidentally, having not been to Alfreton before, and I appreciate the attendance was considerably larger than usual for them, I cannot believe that ground is a Conference standard ground. The "main stand" on the entrance side of the ground is incredibly unsafe when there were 100s of people trying to change ends or get in the bar. God knows what would happen if there was an incident of some sort, or they drew Nottingham Forest in the cup for example.

Battling back from 10 men and a goal down to salvage a draw and actually deserving to win the game shows the phenomenal spirit and desire Faz has distilled into this current team. Alfreton were poor and had it been 11v11, I really would have expected us to beat them comfortably. It looked a penalty but until I see the replay, I can't comment on the red.

It's still in our hands which is the most important thing - we must not presume Bristol Rovers will thrash Alfreton. Football has shown that there can be crazy results on the final day of a season when pressure is high (City QPR three seasons ago sticks most in my mind). We must do the business our end, we can beat Southport so let's go for it.

I think Kevin makes a good point on their ground, whilst the pitch was in a good condition, the actual facilities were inadequate for this standard of football. Congestion was a big problem at half time and could have caused serious issues in the event of an emergency.

As a Forest fan I'm pretty confident Alfreton would win that one. Woking beat Forest in the cup. So did Macclesfield did.  Salisbury and Weymouth should have done.  Chester hammered us. In the Football League only Hartlepool fans have been waiting longer to make the last eight of any knock out competition. All the good karma was used up under Clough. Just the idea of that as a cup fixture gives me a sense of foreboding. Any Forest fans who know what's good for them, would be staying well clear of that game.

Spills obviously agrees as the report on the website says we were kicking up a distinct slop - seems a bit harsh

Having just watched the penalty and red card on YouTube I can see why it was given. It's a difficult one to call but it could look like he deliberately handled it as he slid into the tackle. That's having watched it a few time in slow motion which the ref doesn't get the benefit of.

Having had a day and a half to reflect on Saturday I still don't know if I am happy or not with the outcome?! After fifteen minutes I would have bitten your hand off for a draw but after the game I had the nagging feeling that it could have been all over in our favour. Credit to all the boys who played - it feels like we have our Welling back and the spirit and commitment was excellent. Haven't watched the video yet so can't say if a red card was warranted but young Osbourne has played well of late in our revival and we shouldn't forget that.

Clever substitution at half time to revert to three centre halves. Rossco had his best game back in a Wings shirt and ran himself into the ground. I actually think he is better as a lone forward with support from midfield and out wide and I would like to see us revert to that system next Saturday which served us so well in his first spell at the club.

Great support as well on Saturday and I hope we can finish the job next weekend.

Up the Wings!

No it wasn't - it was poor grammar and now duly corrected!

According to the Bristol Rovers forum, their match against Alfreton has sold out already. That's nearly 12k at the Memorial Ground I think.

BT are showing the Barnet game live with 'additional camera coverage' at the Memorial stadium for Bristol's game. Perhaps we need a fan to be in the bar Saturday reporting on the status of the game!

Ideally though we get it done on our own though, then it doesn't matter what Alfreton do

I am sure there will be many smart phones on to it....although if we can take a 2 goal lead in first 10 mins we can breath a little easier
