Previous managers have had key players on contract and a selection of non-contract players to give flexibility later in the season to move people in and out.
Of course key players should be on a contract to avoid losing them for nothing, or at a time giving insufficient opportunity to replace them.
But every player on a contract, I think, is a mistake. Especially with results and our current league position. It's nothing to do with budget, I bet even most top half sides have fringe players non-contract.
Lets not turn it into an argument. Just my thoughts and an observation based on previous managers squads and those of other clubs in and around us in the table.
One thing that I've never liked though are players being personally slagged off. Constructive criticism is fine and people have views which i'm totally fine with. That's what this forum is for, but there were supporters in front of me shouting out "You're **** Wellard"
I confess I'm guilty of doing that on one occasion on Saturday, which I regret. We must get behind the team, even if we disagree with its shape and selection. It was just an almost involuntary reaction to the events unfolding before my eyes with the substitution of a player possessing hunger, desire, pace and versatility with another who posses none of those things.
