Well done lads! Excellent result.

Next two games are a good opportunity to put us within touching distance of the top half of the table.

Hopefully if the lads keep training hard, and stay focused, we'll be up there.

COYW!

We got the result that the effort deserved tonight and the luck went our way.... for once. Well done Reece Harris a beautifully taken goal. A lovely pass from Xavier Vidal to put Reece in. Xavier is a fantastic player. He's gonna get better as the season progresses.
One other thing. Why hasn't Ben Jefford been selected for an England C squad yet? Surely he deserves it. Well done again lads! COYW. I'll just add the average age of our team tonight was 21.

Welling's work rate won that, the Chester players were rushed from the pressing and good movement and looked like they were knackered. Also thanks to several bits of comedy goalkeeping from Chester's keeper. He looked like he was picked out of the crowd before the game, if he stays they could go down, he's a liability.

Fortune favoured the brave at times but, nevertheless, a good win.

What was disappointing is that we appear to have picked up a group of teenage yobo's who sullied the image of the Club with their taunting of the Chester fans. It looked like they were ejected in the end but they continued with disgraceful verbal abuse from over the fence in Roseacre Road. I wonder where we picked this lot up from?

The rub of the green for once, not taking anything away from the battling performance. Great performances all round, hats off to Welland who looks like a different player, and a sublime finish from Harris.

A decent game of Conference National football last night. I thought Chester were the best attacking team that I have seen at PVR this season but credit to our keeper and back four for some desperate defending at times. Our defensive record is one of the best in the bottom half of the league and long may that continue. Nawty nawty looks like a very capable footballer although he struggled positionally at times last night. The midfield and forwards all worked hard again last night and that was the best that Wellard has done in a Wings shirt to date although his decision making was still missiing at times. Lovely finish from Harris and nice to take advantage of a goalkeeping error for a change. Still don't get enough people in the box for me when going forward and we need to score more scruffy goals like the second last night.

A good follow up to Saturday all round and hope we can carry it on at the weekend...

One small moan - Mr Lokko, you have had an excellent season to date and been one of the stand out players thus far but why oh why do you keep getting caught offside at free kicks. Must have happened three or four times last night and it just so basic and easy to avoid and kills any momentum we might have.

Up the Wings!

Credit where credit is due, a good battling performance, Ricky Wellard looked miles better playing in the centre, the rub of the green for once, onwards and upwards. Squad is starting to come together and things are looking up.
Agree with Ron F about the teenage yobo's, a right bunch of ne'er do wells, where have they appeared from? They should be refused entry for any more games as they are just looking for trouble, they are not genuine supporters of the club and before the stewards intervened last night they might have received a few lessons from the loyal Chester supporters. Not fair on the stewards and also puts us in a bad light with the Chester fans which affects all genuine supporters.

They walked past me as I was waiting at traffic lights at Welling Corner on the way home last night. They were singing "Charlton 'Til I Die"....

Much as I'd like us to pick up local fans when league teams aren't playing, I'd rather this lot don't come back.

wingnut commented on the number of off-sides, we were standing right behind the lino and he just got it wrong. He kept saying that our players had run back from an off-side position. But as I understand the rules if you run back, but the game progresses (I.e. Another player takes possession of the ball) you are then considered as being back on-side. This certainly screwed up one excellent chance for Porter. But the lino also got some things wrong in our favour so I cannot complain too much.

a great result for the young side who were clearly out on their feet by the end. Another good result on Saturday must be on the cards.

The ones I commented on were from the same offence from a set piece situation. The two in the second half (which were pretty much in line with my vantage point) were absolutely correct from the assistant

There is no excuse to get repeatedly caught offside in these circumstances

Loui probably feels it was a lack of confidence with Wellard if he picking him out praising him publicly twice in a week.

The offside rules have changed....all offsides from set pieces were correct decisions as far as I could see.

Correct, looks like our players didn't know though!

Players have previously been allowed to be in offside positions if they were not an "active" part of play; to be offside a player had to touch the ball. Referees' chief Mike Riley says the International Football Associationicon1.png Board (IFAB), the sport's law making body, introduced a change meaning anybody in an offside position making a play for the ball, being close to the ball or having an impact on an opponent would be deemed offside - even if they did not make contact.

In other words; when we send our big lumps up for corners/free kicks they need to stay onside the whole time.

Great win last night. I thought Chester were the better team in the first 20 mins and did get close to scoring several times but as others said we rode our luck a bit and never gave up moving the ball forward. Our fitness looked good as well and I think this played a part towards the end of the match. Wellard and King looked much better, Vidal good wide right and overall we deserved it with much more team play from everyone.

Reading the Chester forum though I can't believe we had the audacity to go and beat them (what with our low crowds, poor ground, offsides, inexperienced manager etc.. etc.). I think we should hand back the 3 points and all of us write 100 times 'we must never beat an ex-Football League team again'.

I know, someone tell them that please!

From their manager;

"I'm not being disrespectful to Welling, but we thought we should have won the game.

"I thought Welling's first goal was offside and everybody in the ground couldn't believe Kane Richards was booked instead of us being awarded a penalty - that was horrendous."

I thought Welling's first goal was offside

Once I read that, I took everything else he said with a pinch of salt.

I though the referee had a really good game on Tuesday - I'm sure he missed a few things but he allowed the game to flow as much as possible and in my view recognised most of the fouls were honest attempts and due to the speed at which the game was played.  We can't really argue with the yellow given to Harry, nor could Chester against their first yellow card.

There was also an element of Karma when Kevin Lokko was heavily fouled in the second half, but the referee saw an opportunity to allow the advantage even though there was a delay.  The next time the ball came near both players Kevin arguably was a bit excessive with his challenge, but the referee allowed it to go unpunished.

The penalty incident was too fast for me, and whichever way it went (for once in our favour) I can't argue if he had a better view.

Although they're the Phoenix club of Chester Citu FC, legally they're completely separate clubs in the same was as Rangers FC and "The Rangers FC" (probably not the best example).

It is one of those 'they are when it suits' situations, I suspect. The other club history does not hurt in getting the Wrexham match televised. Similar paradox to Liverpool. Apparently football doesn't exist to Sky before the Premier League except when it comes to Liverpool otherwise they can't sell the 'big' games with the same stature.

The Chester fans we sat near were very poor in defeat. I think they have got to wake up to the fact that the are not in the football league and if they play like that they won't be on their way back. We rode our luck at times but we were still better than them. Nice to see Wellard step up-more confident and looked like the leader we have missed. I STILL THINK WE NEED A STRIKER. Roll on Saturday and 3 pts against Town
