Fabulous result against a much improved, strong and very competent lincoln team......we are the bogey !! and had luck on our side. Mega performances from Chambo and Lokko.
Major neg for me was the behaviour of their assistant manager (or whoever the tw$t was) throwing the ball away from Norts when it was our throw.....disgraceful and if we caught it on film we should put him to shame.
COYW !!
Great result last night but still problems than need to be addressed.
Firstly on the positive side congrats to our very young back four who hung in all night against a very direct and physically imposing Lincoln team. Nortey has impressed me although I wonder if he could play higher up the field with Barney restored at full back?? Chambers and Lokko did a good job and Jefford has been one of the success stories so far this season. We have one of the best goals against records in the bottom half of the league and the defence deserves credit for that. Corne, Harris and Lee all worked their socks off as well despite being outnumbered at times and not getting a lot of help from players ahead of them.
On the negative side we still have very little cutting edge up front. Kabba is not big enough, strong enough and, more importantly, nowhere near fit enough to play as a loan striker. Despite his goal last night Obafemi is not up to this level, Tashan is playing in the Ryman League and the less said about KSA the better. Without Porter we carry little or no threat up front.
Vidal has become the square peg in the round hole, constantly being shunted from one position to another to the detriment of him and the team. It is clear we have a number of players that would like to play the "number ten" role and, for my money, he is the best of them. He is a talented lad with a good shot of him but is lost in a wide position. If it means leaving out or moving the captain then so be it.
And can I have a pint of what they are serving in the Eric Brackstone suite please. I am sure I heard that one of the motm awards last night went to Tom King?!?! He must have had superglue on his boots last night as he had countless opportunities to come and help his defenders out and just stood rooted to the spot most of the night. When you are being bombarded with long throws and crosses the defenders need some help from their keeper and they got precious little last night.
On and please change whatever we drink at half time as it is clearly spiked as, not for the first time, we came out for the second half like we are in a trance.
Apologies to people if they see this as "doom and gloom" but this problems have been with us since the season began and are not going away.
At times Vidal was on the left, then the Pirlo/Carrick role, and then playing off the striker. Presumably we don't move him around every 30 seconds in training so why do we do it in competitive matches? Are we so stuck for ideas? And don't try and tell me he has a "free role" when every one of those positional changes seemed to be orchestrated by the management team, with several players looking a tad confused.
An excellent result but a terrible performance, and 9 times out of 10 we wouldn't have gotten anything out of that game.
A great shame that the players worked so hard despite not playing well. Had they just rolled over and given away 3 points then everyone could have had a proper moan and ripped into the players.
15 points from the last 21, surged up the table and claimed a win after a flat performance vs a side in form should be congratulated, whilst possibly saying we can do better. Not hammering those that worked so hard to grind out a win.
Supporters will often say the least they demand is effort, its baffling that when they get the effort despite the team being off colour that some are quick to moan.

Please highlight where anyone on this thread has "ripped into" or "hammered" a player. If Tashan were good enough he wouldn't be at Leatherhead, Obafemi would be starting, and Kabba would be able to play 90 minutes.
We have a young squad but they are still grown men and semi-professional footballers who are accustomed to receiving criticism. They're not sensitive little cherubs who will cry into their glass of warm milk at night because Ashford Wing or Wingnut said they didn't play particularly well. Do you think Faz got them into the dressing room and told them they all played an absolute blinder because we scored a bundled goal and a counter attack against 10 men?
Does anyone who was there last night really believe we were the better side? There was no lack of effort, that's for sure. And indeed there were some decent performances from the defence and Sam Corne in particular, but like it or lump it we got very very lucky and this is the forum on which to say so.
Being able to win despite playing badly has worked well for the likes of Man U for years so dont loose sight of the very valuable 3 points. Certainly the defensive work was impressive, but it had to be! Up front as has been said before we just don't have the physical presence to worry the likes of Bush. The long ball to a lone striker will not give much return when he's giving away half a meter in height and a couple of stone in weight. But a great win, and one to be celebrated.
I agree with what most have said on here. It wasn't the greatest performance but sometimes you have to grind out results and get a bit of luck when you are not at your best. Apart from a few mistakes I thought we played well defensively, although we rode our luck at times with Lincoln not taking advantage of their chances.
A great 3 points but we still need to address the strikeforce, we are still missing a viable goalscorer in my opinion. Vidal scored plenty of goals at Dulwich last year when he can get the ball outside the box and shoot, he can't do that if he is played deep or as a winger.
21 points from 17 games is still a good return, if we keep that rate up we will looking towards 15-16th place. Nothing to fear in the next few games, we need to go to Barrow and Guisely looking to get results.

Some sound points as ever (you're a great read!) but can't agree with you over Tom King. Has improved immeasurably over the last few games and is performing soundly now in my view (shot stopping, handling, confidence and in particular his kicking).
On another note Vidal's not really doing it for me a lot of the time. Skillful when he wants to be but often plays within himself. Admittedly he's lost his place in the hole to Wellard which for me is just about justified at present.
Thought that game epitomized why we love football and yet hate it in equal measure, a great performance by us and a great smash and grab by you. An enjoyable game in all truth, however I think a couple of wings-affiliated journalists needed to have watched the game before writing their reports; one in particular calling Bradley Wood's challenge for his second yellow as ''truly awful'', or maybe the sarcasm was lost on me;)?! I think it is best summed up as- Lincoln lost the game, rather than Welling won it.
The striker issue isn't gonna be an easy fix. We are tied to what we've got budget wise. Let's pray that there's a quality loan signing out there that needs some game time or that our current strikers suddenly burst into life.

That may or may not have been aimed at me. I don't know. What you have written is well measured and I am all for constructive criticism. You have raised concerns that many of us have. The fact that we have not scored more than two in a game (and haven't done that often) is a problem,
Lincoln should have made more of their territorial advantage but Welling defended very well and toughed out the three points.
I dont think it is aimed at you at all Mark....from a long way away (in Germany) I was dead chuffed at the result....for me consistancy is the key but you dont get that with such a young team
For me we miss a real centre forward...but as people say...there are not a lot around at our budget....there will be those lower down the pyramid that would really work but of course a huge gamble
I still think we need one or two older heads in the side....not the Jody Brown pensioners but you know what I mean
We are 2 or 3 results from being quite safe but 2 or 3 from being back in it
As I always say....hope there are 4 teams worse and at the moment there are and a couple of perceived BIG teams too
it was good to see us getting the luck we deserved for fighting for it. We didnt play well again. I could not understand the the kicking it high up in the air and automatically giving possession back to Lincoln. It seemed suicidal considering their size and the way they play it. When we do play it on the ground we can look half decent but when some players are unfamiliar with positions and do'nt make themselves avaliable in the box, then any attack seems to peter out. If it was not for Corne's attitude and a better performance by Wellard then we would have been completely overrun. Bush should not be beating our players the way he did and with Porter out some tactical work needs to take place. Afo took his goal well and he can look the part if he gets more confidence. Whilst there is'nt news of any loan striker it may be better to start with him in the Barrow game. I still think the midfield need to create more instead of being run ragged
