Club director George Evans has sadly passed away today, aged 75, after suffering a heart attack. Popular and noticeable figure at PVR, saw him nearly every game since ive started attending Welling nearly four years ago. Condolences go to the friends and family at this horrible time. I'm sure the club will adopt a minute silence tribute for George, either at this weekends FA Cup tie or/and next weeks league game. If you are travelling to Barwell Saturday, may I suggest a 75 minute applause to celebrate the life of George. A long serving member to the wings family. RIP George
Very sad news, I had the fortune of being on the board with George and he was so proactive in making the ground improvements we have today, these have been pivotal in giving us the grading we need to be in the National league.
George was always pragmatic and realistic about how we take this club forward, although we didn't always agree on all things, George was a straight talker and you always knew where you stood.
George loved his football and also liked to go and watch the team train on Friday's. It will not be the same place without George and will be sorely missed.
My condolences go to the family of George in this tough time.
Very sad news. I had the privilege of spending the day with George when I won the 'director for the day' draw away to Nuneaton. He was a very pleasant man, with Welling through his blood and always took time to personally speak to the players and make sure they were happy. A very sad day day for George's family and Welling United Football Club. Rest in peace George.
That is very sad news. George loved his involvement with football and will be sadly missed at the club. He was so willing to help our club move forward and nothing was too much trouble whatever situation emerged. He was like a carer to me when I was not feeling too good, and he was a true gentleman. My condolences go to his family and friends at this sad time. RIP George Evans.
Very sad news and as many have said a big loss to the club
George was always actively involved in all aspects of the club from board member,
fitting seats to ground works and his involvement with the team at the training ground
His passion was with Welling and helping to promote us locally
Condolences to his family
RIP George
