We were guests of Bookies.com at yesterday's game and would like to thank you both sincerely for the hospitality we received. It was obviously a busy day for both of you and under the circumstances we were most impressed with the whole organisation and friendliness within the club. We were disappointed in not being able to make the Man of the Match presentation but I'm sure you will appreciate the problems we faced in travelling home by train. It was a relief that our choice was received well by the home fans. Once again many thanks for the day and all the very best for the rest of the season. We will be following your results with interest.
It was nice to hear the things they were saying about the club on the radio on the way in.
Despite the result, I thought I'd listen to the commentary at work today to see what they made of it. Some people clearly did the club proud.
Phil Brown:
"I've got to say it really is magical here. It's my first time to the ground and it's first class."
Keith Curle:
I think the pleasing thing is...it is a very welcoming environment. The welcome the lads have had, and myself included from getting off the coach. "
Alistair Bruce-Ball:
"You really do have to feel for Welling United this afternoon. I am not just saying that either because of the fantastic hospitality they have provided for all their guests here. And I'm not just talking about their fantastic hospitality because of their plates of cupcakes and mince pies that came past at half-time. But they have done everything they can this club, to make this a good day for broadcasters, supporters and everyone.
But they've been really hard done by on the football field. Trailing four-nil (and I've just been passed another brownie...just so I can say niceer things about Welling United). but they should have had two penalties here, Phil Brown. They've had two penalties against and they saved one, but just about everything that could have gone against them has.
Phil Brown:
"It's probably the most sided performance I've seen from a referee for a long long time. You know, two penalties shouts that weren't given, and two penalties shouts that were given. "
I did mention this in another thread yesterday, but was called an idiot by the guy who started the 'simple one word answer question' poll where both possible answers had two words.

Yeah, ironic isn't it, people talking nonsense. I'll fit in well here.
People visiting Welling for the first time were nice about us, being polite perhaps? The regular fans who matter were not so happy from what I heard. Barrie and Barry do a good job in the main, but they can't do it all. PURE messed up Sunday.
Re: refs, you make your own luck. He was awful yes, but we didn't lose the game because of the ref, we lost it when the team sheet was handed in at 1.30pm. The management team haven't even had the decency to accept any of their own faults when making bizarre subs versus Forest Green, and then bizarre selections yesterday, and then subs too.

All change please.
Whatever else you may think we've clearly made a very good impression on some of the people visiting and I think the club should be justifiably proud of those comments. Polite yes, but I'm not one to go somewhere and say "it's magical" unless I think it's pretty special.

Fully agree with Andrew. Yes, we are a small club, yes we get things wrong off the field, but it is always good to hear nice things about our club. Believe it or not, I think we are special too because we, the supporters, saved the Wings from financial meltdown and extinction.
