MISSING MANAGER

Last season Wings were heading for Conference South, only saved by a Cat?s whiskers with the introduction of Faz as Manager.  He thoroughly deserved his chance to lead the club this season, with his own team.  This is a bonus season for the club in the conference, and it's very clear that Louie and others are on a learning curve.  Jamie Day was gifted at this club for his man management, recruitment,  selections and tactics, and use of a minimal budget.  The current Management Team are way short on the experience described above.

The one outstanding attribute Jamie had, was to be a leader both on and off the pitch. Every Club in the Country has a Leader or Manager , that is not what currently operates at PVR, we have what is termed by some as the  Three Amigos!  Whether Politics, Business or the Girl Guides, they all have a leader.  The Club appointed Faz as Manager, The Banner behind the PVR  goal end  at his first home game conveyed this message.  The fans were soon to learn it would be a group of three running the club. Newspaper articles, after match interviews, TV, and meet the fans evenings  all convey the same message ?We are a group of Three running the Football Team.?  Yes the Three Amigos have made some dreadful mistakes, but this is a very young  Football Team with some talented players, however  some of the squad are not up to  Conference Football standard.

The raw material is at the club, they have the players to play fast attacking Football, Louie  just need to  utilise this talent and recruit another  2/3 player who can enhance this style of play, and move on the less talented.   They also urgently need a Captain who can lead on the pitch, and who is mature enough to drive and control what is happening on the field of play.  Faz, you are a legend at this club, go and show you can become a true leader in the same style, enthusiasm  you have as a player.  Above all make our own decisions, take ownership and  become accountable ,  and deliver  this potential talented team to  the level  of performance the fans and you aspired to  at the start of the season.  Nothing changes, unless you make change!

I find all this talk of the 'three amigos' a bit disrespectful to be honest. I don't agree with their managerial decisions but things seem to be getting a bit too insulting at times. Jamie did well but let's not forget how he left us with a limited squad. Faz was a legend player and inexperienced so I find it hard to be as critical as some. I think the board are getting off lightly as they have the power to hire and fire.

part of the problem is they are STILL doing the interviews as a three even though they must know what everyone thinks of it. It would be sensible to just have Loui doing them considering what is going on at the moment as it does look like a cop out to spread the "blame" for how poorly we are doing

I wanted Faz to be manager when Jamie left and before Jody was appointed. I now no longer see beyond the next three games for Faz and the "management team". The problem, I think, began when poor Louis was injured in our first match of the season, and, after putting himself on the line for the Wings (as he has done countless times as a valued, long-serving, servant of this club). Faz is probably out for the rest of the season and, thereby, hangs a tail (or even a tale!) because the management set-up was geared very much to Louis being the managerial motivator on the pitch with his colleagues planning and watching the overall picture from the bench.  That approach has gone.

Apart from a good run earlier on and, let's face it, much-needed cash from a Cup run, results have been indifferent to say the least and team selection and tactics at times, to the outsider, a mysterious concept. Faz, the management team and players do not set out to lose matches, they work hard and battle well on the pitch for the most part and we have some very skillful players.  It is probably not a popular view, but I thought most of the team played very well for 90 minutes against Macclesfield. I think we missed Michael Chambers and, obviously, we miss a regular goalscorer.

That said, I think time is fast-running out for Faz (and some would say has already run out) but I could not tell such a wonderful, honest, servant of this club that he is no longer needed and I do not expect others to do the dirty work for me - especially at this time of year.  In short, I am hoping for an Xmas miracle - six points from Dover and a point at Braintree (if the pitch is sorted) - a good striker in January to cement our progress and to push on to mid-table. Otherwise, the prospects are gloomy for whoever is in charge.

yes thats quite true, he is a decent hard working man and yes his injury has robbed us of a very good player and inspirational figure on the pitch. However we are in a phase now which I dont think the 3 of them can get us out of, I disagree with you it about the performance though. Forest Green and also against Eastleigh were better and it all looked very desperate with not much productive creative play. If I was Faz I would resign to save the difficult decision. The sad thing is we all wanted it to work out and for him to push us up the table and for a long term footballing future for the club to be started year by year, but the honeymoon is over and we have got to think about the club and not the personalities, however sad and painful that is. I would hope that the 3 would understand and resign to give someone else a chance to save Welling from the drop. If we drop down what is there to stop us falling further do we really think we could get ourselves up to this level again any time soon?

Football management of a club is not often a long term job, with a few notable exceptions, difficult decisions have to be made when things are not working. Jose did not become a bad manager at Chelsea and will do well elsewhere, it just was not working anymore. Faz is a great guy, and a stalwart servant of Welling, but things are not working. A change is needed, perhaps just reverting to a single manager, who takes and stands by his decisions? The three together seem to just leave the team without a clear leader. Or perhaps a complete change, provided it's for the better?
