Two points:

Watford were expected to be in the PL relegation zone. When it turned out the standard of the League was worse than expected they didn't say we are expected to be in the bottom three so that is where we will make sure we are!

We did not have a bad start last year. We had a reasonably good start such that we were largely able to weather the traumas that came around Christmas. Because of that we all knew there was the nucleus of a half decent side that could probably get out of trouble and it got supported accordingly.

All this tells me is we expect to get relegated and it won't be seen as a big deal if we do and I have a feeling that is coming from the top. Well relegated teams generally attract less support so I presume that won't be a big deal either...

Agreed.

If leagues were decided on budgets and where teams are supposed to finish then we might as well just hand out the trophies in August. Leicester are not supposed to be joint top of the Premiership but they are.

Definitely a change of tack from the pre season Faz "we are looking for halfway up this league" to the current Faz ".....well we are expected to be at the bottom of the league..."

This is the weakest Conference National in terms of strength in depth since we got back to this level and therefore there is no reason why smaller clubs like Welling shouldn't be able to compete. However we know we have one of the smallest budgets in the league so it was imperative we didn't waste it on rubbish and to utilise it all on contracted players is/was just madness and shows a complete lack of naivety.

As Stafford has already said it comes across as more than a tad defeatist in my book...

He's changed his tune, beginning of the season the three of them were talking up mid table.

Well at least he acknowledges that we are in the drop zone! But to have no determination to get out of it is very disappointing to say the least.

I have lost all faith in the management team, trio or whatever they are. This interview just confirms how they think. Why they are still in charge is a mystery and I cannot understand how they arrive at their team selections and negative tactics. Anyone who has to pay on the gate surely would not bother any more with Welling after reading this. Have hated this season from day one and will never attend another Welling game with this trio in charge and certain players still being paid good money for producing nothing all season. Enough is enough!!

True supporters also want the best for their club. We're not getting that under the current regime. Get off your high horse - we don't have to blindly accept our fate and pretend all is rosy in the garden

I have stuck with Welling over 30 years home and away. Have seen it all, am no glory hunter, not interested in that. If you are satisfied with how things are then you are in a small minority, We haven't won a league game since October and do not look like winning another one any time soon. I don't need no lectures from you, Welling born and bred and proud to support my local club, home and away!!

So you'd rather have the thin just so you can stick with it. If I'd wanted glory I wouldn't have gone to Butterfly Lane...

The bookies may have expected us to be there but based on the below i'm not sure

1) Pre season claiming you were looking at mid table
2) Seeing early on in pre-season that we could not score goals and doing nothing to rectify this
3) Putting too many players on contract meaning little room for manouvre
4) Resting players in key league games so they could play in the FA Cup (that you didn't play anyway)
5) Being negative and putting 1 up front
6) Not playing players in the right positions, Vidal scored 20+ goals for Dulwich in the behind the striker role, he is being wated out wide or as a deep midfielder.
7) Clearly not working on set pieces in training, corners, free kicks etc getting worse.
8) Not doing enough to move players out in January to bring players in.

If just a few of the above had been rectified, we may be a lot higher up the table.

I do think there is potential in the squad and we are only 2 capable strikers away from surviving, but goals win games and we cannot score goals.

it is one of the funniest excuses I have ever heard from any football manager - we are doing ok because we were expected to do crap anyway....laughable

If Welling are looking to be relegated (the signs are in the interviews), are they aiming for mid-table mediocrity in the national south next season? Not good news for season tickets renewals?

More importantly, if that were to be the case, is it not rather taking the mick out of those who helped the club in its time of strife and are being repaid in ten year season tickets. Admittedly there was no guarantee of higher level football when the agreement was made but if people do their best for you, there ought to be some moral obligation to do your best for them.

I don't actually believe the desire is to go back to the South. From chatting to Barry in the past they are definitely thinking for the future - I guess these discussions all happen because the club hasn't acted nor made any statement.

If the club let them manage us into relegation I can't see them booting them out post relegation. It would appear we have accepted the inevitable and are sticking with them regardless, why I would like to know.

The club have no desire to drop down a level, they know that this is the level to be at from a commerical and footballing point of view.

I actually wonder if they are in the position of thinking when we changed last year we didn't get it right so we might not if we do it again so it is cheaper not to and not get it wrong again. It then becomes a cheap wrong versus an expensive wrong.

The fear of making the wrong decision is not an excuse to sit on your hands and do nothing. If you can't take the pressure of decision making, move aside and let someone else take the heat.
