This may be a bit bias because I am a massive Ashby fan :P
I am so happy to see Dean Frost and Barry Ashby back, to be honest I would have liked to see them back at the beginning of the season but the board was right to give Faz the chance after what he did to keep us up.
I returned to watching Welling 4 years ago as a season ticket holder after a number of years absence, and watching Dean and Barry doing the pre-match warmups and hearing them bark out the orders just inspired me with confidence. And I am sure they can install some of that confidence back into the team like they use to.
Ashby old fashioned proper defender, and Frost the perfect coach for the younger players ready to step up like he did at VCD (I know a big difference between VCD and Welling).
Very sad that it didn't work out for Faz. Glad to see Frosty, Ash and Jamie T back with us. Still something missing though. Someone or two who can put the ball in the net!!
Can we please dispel the myth that Faz and Co "kept us up" last season.
We beat a Kiddy team on their holidays and held on against a Wrexham team who were on their last legs after a horrendous run of fixtures and a pile of midweek away games all round the country. The management trio got 12 points in 11 games at the end of last season (yes an improvement on Mr Brown but that is not really saying much) but not exactly the form of world beaters. We stayed up because Alfreton were s**t - pure and simple. They played us at home on the penultimate game of the season, with a man extra for 75 minutes, and we should have ended up winning that game comfortably.
I can understand why they were given the job for this season although I didn't agree with it personally. But to say they were solely responsible for keeping us up is wide of the mark.
We have Rodak on loan and isn't Mike McEntagart on contract?

Yes, but I would imagine is untenable to keep him around. I suspect he'll be offered out on loan asap, or given the option to tear his contract up and sign for free elsewhere.
There are a few other contracts that should be torn up before his...
Sadly I think some of them are happy to sit on their ar$e and get paid for it (and that is our fault and not theirs sadly)
Rather than tear up the contracts we'd be better off offering them as part-exchange in a transfer.
As a hypothetical example (not trying to do a Jonathan Ackworth here) Freddie Ladapo has scored 9 in 10 appearances for Margate, has League One and National League experience, is only 22 and would be ideal for us. HOWEVER he apparently has a market value of £35k... which even with the FA cup money, assuming that hasn't already been spent, would be out of our reach.
BUT guess who else apparently has a market value of £35k?...KSA Believe it or not! And there lies one of the few benefits of having him on contract.
The enticement for Ladapo in joining us is that he could have six good months here, attract the attention of football league clubs and potentially make a move to the League in the summer. The attraction of KSA joining Margate, assuming they'd want him, is that he's more likely to get regularly football which unless he improves significantly in training, I can't see happening. Plus Margate are making a late push for play-offs.
As I said, completely hypothetical as this would all have to happen by 31st Jan... possible last minute deal???
We tried to sign Ladapo before he went to Margate. I was told that Margate offered him more than double what we did.
Why would he sign for us when he is already being noticed by league clubs as Dagenham have made an approach, also he is already in a team that is scoring goals. Why would he join us when he would not get the service? He is also on a contract...

Just heard Frosty on Radio kent. Having taken training he believes we have a very young talented squad but would love to get a couple of older heads in. However, he freely admits that this will only be possible by freeing up some finances by shipping people out. Apart from the striker situation, this is an element which I believe has been missing all season, at times it has looked like men vs boys and I am more than pleased that someone is thinking about it. We live in hopes, but please not a repetion of the Brown "old brigade"

A subject about the new manager has turned into crap yet i dont see that those comments being removed and only 7/48 messages are about welcoming the new manger yet there were dozens saying Faz needed sacking....hmm...
I welcome the new manager Dean Frost, assistant manager Barry Ashby and goalkeeping coach Jamie Turner. I wonder whether there will be an announcement regarding the continuance, or otherwise, of our physiotherapist? Also see WUSA site for a suggestion.

sorry, my first log in since this news hit the airwaves. I too would like to welcome the new (old) management team in totality, and wish them the best of luck with the giant task between now and end of April, and then I guess beyond.
So Odin, with Old Oaks help, I think that makes 53 welcomes from 55 messages? Lol
Such a giant task that if we beat Halifax we are 2 points behind them with 2 games in hand.
Their manager is saying this is a huge 6 pointer. Alfreton came to us last season and won, if we do the same then things aren't looking such a huge task.
Lets go for it and come Saturday evening things could look fairly ok.
