I highly doubt that a league club wanting the player would be put off by say 20k....we are Conf National ffs
Who pay wages that teams in the Conference South and possibly even Ryman could match... Even some of the money that teams like Greenwich Borough are throwing round would top some of our players wages.
It's the players that insist on the clauses, because they can get a move easily if someone comes in. The likes of Andre Grey who netted Luton 250k when he left for Brentford were being paid approx 2k a week, meaning that Luton can insist on a clause. Welling paying a players around £300 a week means that the player holds the cards, and can insist on low clauses.
If we had not of put those clauses in the deal we would never of had Franks and Beautyman at Welling, FACT. I would rather have these players who do well for a period of time and then move on, rather than not have them at all. It means we've benefited from having a very good player for however long they are here, as well as showing other players who wish to develop that you can be noticed at Welling.

I don't think League 1/2 clubs have as much money as you might think. 20k might not be a worth a risk to some of them. I still think it comes down to the player/agent and not the buying or selling club. If we are forced to take a low transfer deal in a clause then we need to try and load it up with sell ons, appearance fees etc.
The latest League 1/2 transfers are mostly loans and free transfers
I think we will probably end up going down the academy route as we have done this week with the Brentford and Millwall lads. That's not to say there are not some gems out there attached to professional clubs that need experience in men's football. We just need Frost/Ashby to use their contacts and maybe get lucky and unearth a couple of unpolished diamonds that could be big asset(s) to us. The Millwall lad Pavey was one that might have been in the frame earlier in the month and he has started well at Aldershot.
Ideally we would all want someone with nous/experience but they cost and we are not exactly an attractive proposition at the moment.

Hello.....as you know I still dont buy that....there are many many clubs on lower budgets than we have that get better deals for transfers than we do......however so long as the 5k goes to Dean to spend on the elusive striker then happy days
Ben Jefford was the most consistent player this season, very fit, committed and the correct attitude plus plenty of ability. Wish him well for the future which will be in the Football League. Wasn't surprised to see this as thought Jamie would come in for someone from Welling this month.
