The Wings were always on a loser when they got promoted tothe Conference. A team built mostly on loan players and constantly changing, playing against full time professional teams,a manager who was always going to be head hunted, a poor financial position and just recovering from near bankruptcy, and a ground with facilities worse than the "Calais jungle", plus crowds way below the Conference average. What was achieved was nothing short of a miracle!
Yes, we are all bitterly disappointed with the current League position and the probability of relegation. The last 3 years has been a real "Eye Opener"on the requirementsfor what is effectivelythe 4th division of the Football League. This has not been a happy time from the playing side, and even less so, when looking at the set ups and facilities other teams in the conference.
Welling is a housing suburb of Bexley, with little investment opportunity for the Wings from local commercial busineeses. If the club is to move on it needs major investment in all areas of the club over the next few years!Hopefully the club will be able tohold its position in the Conference South and enable some stability again.
The WUSA meetingnext Saturday to me is a complete waste of time, 101 questions will beasked and nothing material will be derived accept for a few minor complaints will be corrected. Why the Hobbins family want toexpose themselves toa tirade is beyond me.Everyone will come away even more dejected.
There are a billion and one reasons which need addressing if we want tosee the Wings arrive in the 21st Century. The club is desperately in need of short and long term plans. The Club is still and will be in higher end of Non League Football, and a new way and innovation is required to take the club intothe next 50 years. The Hobbins family need a legacy toensure their hard work in taking a team from Danson Park tothe Conference and making the club a part of the Local Community.
There are still a lot of passionate fansto turn this around. The work WUSA and other Volunteers undertake for the clubis more than a invaluable asset.A complete restructuring of the club is required and everyone should be part of the process. The ideas and potential opportunities need to be explored ,without any feasibility review the club will just drag on down the same path.We need tofind a new path toa more sunny and scenic view.
