Lost 2-1. Didn't create anything of note after our goal, which was a great finish by Waldren.

Did not make the match, disappointed to read the above, were we as bad as last season?

First match doesn't mean too much but are the signs worrying?

Did MG try to shake things up with subs or changes in tactics?

Maybe make the effort to go rather than being on here being doom and gloom.

Its the first game. See what happens the next two home games.

Apart from the header wide by Waldren. shot saved from Whitely and open goal missed by Devyne all in last 5 minutes.

Fair enough and no need to explain but maybe do not be negative when you've not seen a game.

Blimey!! You're in a bad mood. Oldoak2 was just asking how we played. What the performance was like. As he said away games aren't possible for all. Some of us have to work etc. If it's difficult for you to be polite don't post. It's only one game. It's not the end of the world.

I wouldn't class that as anything of note. The header was well wide. Whitely's shot was going well wide with the keeper not needing to touch it. The open goal was nowhere near either.

Poor game overall, no real clear cut chances at all other than our goal. Slabber has not been on form all pre season so why he was paired with Crawford was suspect.

Still early days, i will start judging properly after a few games when the squad has gelled a bit more. The next 2 are very winnable.

As someone who watches Oxford City every now and again, I am intrigued as to who the 3 really poor players were !

I thought your numbers 4 and 10 looked decent but the rest were standard Conference South level - nothing really poor or exceptional. The no 9 may be one of the players being referred to as he didn't seem to cause any danger.

Its early days and it takes time for new teams to gel, but on the basis that this Oxford City team doesn't look as good as the ones they have had over the past couple of seasons, I'd say mid-table mediocrity at best for both teams based on today's evidence. Of course, these words could look pretty foolish come April !

Poor game. Poor pitch. Hot weather. Two mediocre teams.

Didn't really understand a couple of the substitutions and none of those that came on really made an impact. And disappointed that, the goal apart, we hardly had anything of note on target and din't test the keeper enough. There were some good set piece deliveries (and also some poor ones) so hopefully we can capitalise on the good ones in the games ahead.

However it is the FIRST LEAGUE GAME OF THE SEASON and, as MG has already stated, we need to cut him and the players some slack and judge them after a month or so and not after ninety minutes.

Hopefully a better performance and result at PVR tomorrow night.

Was a very poor game but the team will need time (friendlies just don't stand up to the proper league games we now face).

Thought Sprague had a tough afternoon as he kept getting the ball played to him and didn't have a break in that heat! At times we needed to slow things down, keep the ball and alternate play that would have given players a few minutes to recover. We didn't seem to want play the ball out to the right for some reason?

Disappointing to concede two pens. First I thought was, second i couldn't really see. Hope it's not a taster of things to come with refs at this level.

I appreciate the frustration of those who made the effort to make the long trip up to Oxford at the weekend (and a huge well done to them for doing so), however unlike Oxford City we have a completely new starting XI.

The one lesson we should have learn from last season is that negativity breeds negativity, and no good will ever come of that. By slagging off the team from day one, all we're going to encourage is a repeat of last year regardless of the players or manager we have.

We've seen glimpses in pre-season that the players can perform, they just need a bit more time to gel and will no doubt improve over the coming weeks and months. Let's turn out in numbers tomorrow, support the lads and give them a chance.

I didn't hear anyone slagging off the team on Saturday. In fact all the fans I saw gave the team a big applause as they left the pitch.

I'm not expecting miracles this season, and certainly not demanding we will win the league. It's a completely new team and as long as we are competitive I would be happy for a top 10 finish.

I must have imagined the booing shown in the match highlights at the final whistle then.

The booing was probably aimed at the referee for some strange decisions and/or the Oxford keeper for his blatant time wasting tactics (yet again eventually punished by an inept referee with a card in injury time at the end of the game!)

As Polo has said the Wings support was generally encouraging the players and was acknowledged by the majority of them and the manager at the end of the game.

It will take the team time to gel but we could probably say that about 90% of the teams at this level. I doubt whether there were m(any) teams that started this season with anything like the team they finished last season with.

If you're not at the game then how do you know who the booing is aimed at? From the fans behind the goal I don't re-call any booing at all. Just a big round of applause for the players.

Went to see Newcastle at Luton in 1981 and their right winger had a worse game than any of ours on Saturday. Never thought he'd be any good based on the evidence of that one display. His penalty technique in World Cup semis left a bit to be desired but the rest of my judgment proved a tad erroneous...

I suggest you never have a bad day at your place of work.

If I performed the way they did in pre season/interview I wouldn't have got the job to begin with.

Agreed, but I doubt if any other team had 13 out of 14 players making their league debut for their club.

As for the booing, I wasn't aware of it but the referee certainly deserved any jeers he got.
