Not good...not good at all.

All over the place defensively in the first half. I thought Nelson was superglued to his skipper for most of the first half and when he did move wider you could have driven a bus between him and his captain. In his defence (and the was precious little of that) I have seen all three games and he has had little or no help from the players in front and/or alongside him. If only we had a promising young player in that position who has one multiple player of the year awards and at a higher level....

Not sure how the first goal went in but if it hadn't been for Lewington we could have been three or four down at half time. Second half we threw a load of forwards on but there appeared to be no pattern and no organisation and, dare I say it, a lack of fitness as well....?? At the end of the game we had three centre forwards on the field yet we were playing a dimunitive winger as our central striker?! incidentally if he is going to spend most of the second half doing exercises then please replace him with someone who is at least 100% fit. My main worry is that we looked one paced form start to finish - yes there are some willing runners amongst them but we looked lethargic form front to back on Saturday.

It appears to me that we have two distinct group of players. Group A who are older, experienced heads who have played at this level (or higher) for a number of years and Group B who are younger lads trying to make the step up to this level of football. Group A should be doing a lot more to help Group B but both groups could and should be doing a lot better than they currently are and repay some of the faith that the management team has shown in them.

I will be at East Thurrock supporting my team tomorrow and I hope there will be a good number of Wings fans there doing the same. Far too early to be pushing any panic buttons but the players and management need to up their game. The decline on the pitch has bee happening for a season and a half now and not just for three games but it is the responsibility of MG, DM and the players to give us a team that is prepared to show pride, energy and committment to halt this decline.

Up the Wings!

Well said wingnut. I think there is potential in the squad and looking at the various players they all should be able to perform at this level. They will be aware as anyone that it's just not working / good enough at the moment. So all we can do is to carry on giving them our support, opinions & advice. Fingers crossed for a first win of the season tomorrow.

At the risk of being lampooned, I believe that we have a team which will thrive in heavier conditions. I know this sounds rather simplistic, but there are teams which prefer damp and less bouncy pitches and there are teams which prefer current conditions. The ideal, of course, is to develop a team which can play well in all conditions. Currently, it seems that teams with younger players are buzzing around us. Our tempo and build-up seems so slow and we seem drained of energy - particularly in the hot conditions (which may, of course, denote lack of fitness).

They say a week's a long time in football. Looking back, I can't believe my optimistic stat (Aug 10) on the "Welling United v Bishop's Stortford match thread" when I said "However, here's some good news.....we're still unbeaten at half-time!".....and then we played like that against Weston-Super-Mare!
