I have just been on the FA web site.  It indicates that the two clubs have agreed to play extra time and penalties (if necessary) to settle the tie at Welling.

Two jokes in one day, 1st a 10am pitch inspection tomorrow and now this. Why are we pandering to them? If we managed to nick a draw at home they would have a fixture pile up and no doubt rest players in a replay. Who ever agreed to this needs a dunces hat for the rest of the season.

We are a part time club with players who have day time jobs and train in the evening. My first thought when I saw we had drawn Lincoln at home was 'Do I book two days holiday now in the event of a replay?' and 'how much would the train fare and hotel be at short notice?'. I appreciate that Welling would have had a coach so there would not have been the need for them to stay but would all the players have been able to get Tuesday afternoon off work?

Also, the way the Cowleys work, would they have played a weakened side in the replay or would they have used it as a training session?

We train on a Tuesday evening anyway, its more the principle of it...imagine they done that in the fa cup, would be uproar!
we should refuse to play away to teams like Hungerford or Eastbourne on a Tuesday and just play double headers instead. Id love to know how the conversation went, something along the lines of "agree to this or you will be waiting 6 months for your prize money"

Why not ask one of the decision makers after the game tomorrow (or when we next play)? If the answer is unsatisfactory, then let fly. Maybe Welling made the first move!

I do agree that 10:00 seems early for a pitch inspection.

The rules of the competition are that if both sides agree at least 7 days in advance the first game may be played to a conclusion by extra time and penalties. We must have agreed to this therefore and I suspect it is probably due to our league position and wishing to focus on that rather than having extra games.

As the Lincoln supporters will have more pressing attractions for their money (Brighton) I suspect we took a calculated decision not many would turn up in the event of a replay anyway and therefore significant money would not be made for the potential inconvenience.

On a purist point, I can well see the attraction for teams in the Vase doing this (if you were Bedlington Terriers drawing Welland Rovers say) but I dont see that a full time pro team should be pursuing this, regardless of their other interests. It does kind of smack of 'we have a team good enough to progress on a number of fronts but dont want to accept the burdens success brings'.

I'm guessing the replay would be a few days before either East Thurrock at home or Weston away. 2 big games and very winnable. With the squad not being as big as it could be in certain areas, i've got no problem about the lack of a replay.

Agree with Staffy

This cup run is nice...but the league needs sorting as priority

I believe this is also permitted and has been done in the early rounds of the FA Cup (I believe Guernsey have used this facility to avoid midweek trips to the mainland and they do not play at home midweek unless the opposition agree). I don't know if it is permitted or not in the later rounds but I  suspect it is but finances preclude it from happening.

League competition has different rules.

I think the no replay decision is a good one, stops the away side, whoever they are, playing for a draw and adds a bit of spice to the match.

so let's just take their scalp at the first match

I suspect part of the issue is that any replay Lincoln might get with Brighton would be scheduled for the same midweek as a Trophy replay and would take precedence. As that game finishes less than 7 days before the Trophy tie you couldnt then change to a single game. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the weather could intervene on any of these games leaving us as the lowest priority to be settled in a Lincoln fixture pile up. I suspect the real problem is not getting the days off but knowing in advance which ones to get off.

I fully support Extra Time/Penalties. We have enough other key games to consider without the added baggage of a potential replay. But's that my opinion

Why don't we just scrap the game completely and get a member of each team to play it on FIFA.

 Because that would be silly.

Because then we'd have to find another several hours searching through the options to set it to extra time and penalties which probably aren't the standard settings....
