Great result today. I thought first half in particular we were excellent and good value for 2-0. Workrate and desire was superb. Second half we were a bit under the cosh and sat a bit deep but kept battling and two world class saves from Chris helped. I thought Poole were very long ball and technically inferior to us. Hopefully the injuries we picked up are nothing serious. Very happy overall! COYW.
After last weeks 2nd half debacle.
A reaction was needed.
Today WUFC fans & followers see one.
Well done to the team/squad.
Plus whoever picks the starting 11.
Only team to win out of bottom 10 teams in the league.....Poole were 4th in form team in league last 6 games going into today.....well done lads...great performance...COYW !!
I think that was the best defensive display of the season.
With all the outfield chopping and changing, if we can get a well drilled keeper and back four, that is a good foundation for building a team from for next season.
Good result and like the look of the big lump up front for us.
On a couple of occasions he waltzed past their two centre backs, who weren't exactly small.
Don't think there are many who fancied us yesterday.
I never.
A superb perfornance by our team - all of them. They can play well twice in a week. We have unearthed a magnificent rough diamond in the extra large shape of Alex Cathline. He mullered their back line, his hold-up play was splendid and, sometimes, he had surprisingly deft footwork for a big man. Early days for Alex, but he seems to improve with every game.
The management team wanted a "reaction" and they got one. Having said that a bit of effort and work rate should be a given and not have to be asked for...
Out of the blocks quickly and good to see us take advantage of errors from the opposition in the form of an own goal and a penalty. We were on the front foot and Cathline was using his size and strength to good effect. Having said that, if he is playing as the lone out and out striker he needs to get himself into the penalty area/six yard box rather than hang back as he did on Saturday. Of course that does mean wide players who are going to deliver the ball and not run up blind alleys like the two current loanees seem to do all the time?! Once again half time seemed to stop our momentum although we could and should have put the game to bed when Crawford missed his chance. The effects of Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday in recent weeks seemed to take it's toll towards the end and, not for the first time, we were indebted to our keeper for one outstanding save and another couple of good blocks towards the end. And can we please clear the ball properly at the first time of asking rather than the fourth or fifth time....
At the moment it reminds me in some ways of the team we had last year under TTA. A decent keeper and a competent back four but toothless up front. What eventually happened to that team was the good part cracked under pressure (inevitably) and the other end was nowhere near good enough to bail them out. I think the current group will end up going the same way unless we find a genuine threat at the top end of the pitch.
Good win. But..... own goal and a penalty. When will we score from open play. (Not including Harry Crawford's speculative effort)
I think we had far more chances from open play than in previous weeks. Couple of very good saves from their keeper and a couple of easy chances missed in the second half but at least we got in and around the six yard box. Very different from Whitehawk. Thought the ref had a mare for both sides with some very strange decisions.
Thought that we played well but still lacking that bit of quality up front. I like Cathline, I think there is a raw talent there that could be developed in time.
