If we are still on the same budget as this season it should be a formality then! I think the more pertinent question is who dictates where that budget is spent...
I'd worry that he's saying he'll need other people to help him find the players he needs. Especially agents ringing him saying they can find players for him. That's how we ended up with some of the early season dross last August.
Recent Championship level assistant manager sounds a pretty good base to start off with at this level. That said, his post-match interviews this season haven't impressed me - I can't imagine him getting worked up about anything or letting a player know who's boss.
6 games to go, no transfer window, players who don't want it enough, owner who overpays and over promises....... what can you expect. Think the new guy has presented himself well, and is taking time to observe rather than jump in.....the coolness is possibly the experience coming through. Can't imagine they didn't have to get worked up or lay the law down at charlton or hudderfield.... these are not braintree or even ebbsfleet we are talking about.
goldberg created the mess, and it took a year to create, guess it'll take about half that time to get an even keel back....some stability on and off the pitch.
Dyer gets my vote, I know his interviews show him to be very laid back but he's shown he knows the game and has managed to keep us in the league with a team of players who he didn't select and with probably half the players not interested and / or not good enough. I think if he's given the chance, and the finances, we'll have far more success next season.
I think he has spoken quite well. He spoke about fitness and heart/spirit as well which goes a long way at this level and has been a hallmark of good Welling teams over the years. Also has the advantage of seeing the current crop over a few games and has seen enough to know who he thinks is/isn't up to it although I share concerns that the recruitment might not be directly handled by any new manager.
My main concern would be how long would he last if his old mate Chris Powell gets a job somewhere and wants a trusted number two alongside him.....then we are back to the Day scenario all over again....

I don't think you could stop that happening. However we should be getting something in the contract that leaves us adequately recompensed in those circumstances.

He said that he would listen to any offer (suggesting that he had not had a firm one at that point) but felt that he had done his time as an assistant / head coach and that he wants to have a go at managing.

What's the point in him pretending he's in charge. We know he isn't and the players know he isn't so why waste his breath?
Agree about Dyer. Found his post match interviews uninspiring and his comments and analysis almost led by the interviewer. Not a strong enough leader or with strong enough tactical nouse for my expectations
To be fair to Alex he got the two crucial wins against Gosport and Truro. I'd hate to think what would have happened if we lost those. I know the opposition weren't any good but he came in after a 1-5 defeat, 0-0, 0-3, 3-7 defeats! Very pleased with the new set up but good luck to Alex
