If the players had shown as much commitment as Barry and the groundstaff in getting the game on, we would have won by a country mile. Not often this can be labelled at the players but they let the club down today. Big reaction needed Tuesday.

Not fluent first, last from third, ridden after three out, soon weakened.
Think starting 4-4-2 against a side lower then you in the league kind of shows your hand.
Agree that we went missing and the team that wanted it more, won.
Just think that we should have played Philpott instead if Hall and showed our intent from the off.
Why the need for continual quick free kicks from Healy also worries me.
However much I admire his ability, is it starting to dwindle?
It was obvious that at half time one team had a warm blanket, whilst the other was told home truths.
Hats off for those that made the game happen.
Maybe warmer climates will make for warmer returns?

Questions arising from the match
Q1 If you are not fit enough to play 45 minutes why name yourself as a substitute?
Q2. Why wait until we go a goal down before changing things? A blind man could see we were being outplayed in the second half. Try being proactive instead of reactive.
Q3. Doing the players think they only have to turn up to beat teams lower than them in the league and cups at home?
the players (and I use that term loosely) let us down time and time again.

I can't be too harsh on the players, even after a very poor performance. 6 wins out of 8 was a pretty good run coming into the game.
Some very baffling decisions though, the one i didn't understand was why we switched the sides Hall and Jebb were playing on. Hall especially was playing well until we switched him to the right wing, his continual cutting inside shows he doesn't have much of a right foot!
I'm a big fan of Callum Driver but after his man of the match award, i can only assume that the game was sponsored by Mr and Mrs Driver..... Philpot had to be man of the match for me, even if he was on the pitch for just 15 minutes, and he has to start tomorrow night.

First and foremost well done to Barry (and his helpers) for getting the game on (although I wish you hadn't bothered!) Secondly well done to Oxford City - sharper, hungrier. first to everything and well deserving of the three points. Having seen the last three games (all away) I didn't see that "performance" coming at all. We have been solid, organised, hard to break down and creative when given the chance. On Saturday we were none of those things. However should we really be surprised at all.......??
If anyone was coming to do a scouting report on us at PVR they could write it in two minutes
"As long as the day has a "y" in it Welling United will play 4-4-2. They might try the really unusual tactic of swapping the wide players over during the game but then you know they will cut inside into traffic and not attempt to get to the byline at all. They may substitute their wide players for some other wide players but it is unlikely they will change their shape at all. Their full backs can be quite dangerous pushing forward but they leave spaces in behind them and sometimes players don't react and cover those spaces quick enough. If you can't exploit that then you can eventually overrun the two central midfielders who are left with far too much to do most of the time. If you can't exploit those weaknesses then be solid, sit tight and wait for them to make a schoolboy error and/or goalkeeping mistake and there you are.....job done."
Why oh why oh why can we not at least try and do something different at home. Earlier in the season we played a bit of 4-4-1-1 with Healy behind the front man and scoring for fun. We also have enough decent central midfielders to play 4-3-3 (or 4-5-1 when we haven't got the ball). This is a far more fluid system and doesn't have to be defensive at all. Last time we were successful at this level (and in a much tougher league I hasten to add) we used that system and we lost one home game in two seasons?! In the last nine home league games we have conceded three goals on FIVE separate occasions - that is a shocking statistic and the reason why we are currently outside the play offs looking in and not firmly inside the play off pack.
Tomorrow night we are at Bognor and I am hoping/praying we get the "away" version of Welling again and not the "home" one. Forget the crap about Bognor being a good footballing side. They are second bottom of the league for a reason, They have won 3 home league games out of 16. Despite that performance at the weekend, we should still go there with confidence and get the three points and keep this season going. We then have another away game and a few training sessions on how to improve our home form...
Personally I thought we switched to 4-2-3-1 when Philpott came on but it didn't help the defence!
Am not necessarily privy to all the facts but on the face of it am more than annoyed that Dymond came on at the back second half rather than Coyle. If the Manager isn't going to come on at first change in his natural position then for God sake give the berth on the bench to Archie rather than wasting it.
Another desperate home performance with no bottle shown when up against mid table teams/strugglers where you have to roll your sleeves up. In such marked contrast to away form maybe due to the lack of imagination described.
